After I root my phone that has HBOOT 0.80 on it, can I then install the generic ROM over the top with the old 0.75 bootloader and have an original generic stock unrooted phone?

A downgrade of your boootloader-version is impossible afaik.

The "rooting" instructions for 0.80 say that the "1.15.405.4" ROM is put onto the phone during the process. But, I guess this process in not downgrading the firmware to the older version or else everyone with a 0.80 firmware phone would only have to use the 0.80 instructions one time only. Is there any way for a person in Europe with 0.80 firmware to get a generic ROM that takes factory updates from HTC? I assume a rooted phone will not take updates directly from HTC.

don't you have to do the rooting- procedure only once, no matter what bootloader you're using? i remember myself reading something like that but with hboot 75...

if that's the case for hboot 80, too, aren't we able to flash any (custom or official) ROM to our desire after we successfully rooted it?

would be great to know what exactly we can flash now that we joined the superusers' club :P

oh...and now having a stock rom installed (it previously had the german o2 branded one installed), do i still need the goldcard for every future rom flash (or app2sd- install) or is the device now 'unlocked'?

From what I can tell, most of the custom ROMs that are available here are using the 0.75 version of the bootloader which means even if our phones are rooted, we still can't use them. Is this correct?

It seems like HTC is shipping the 0.80 bootloader phones to all the providers and keeping the 0.75 version phones separate so that they can control how many phones will receive direct factory updates.

hm,sounds reasonable...guess i'll wait for an answer from paul (or someone with more guts than me who already tried installing a custom rom) then and keep playing around with the only after-root-benefit so far: a led- flashlight, haha :P

anyone tried to get app2sd running yet?

Well, I hope there will be a way to sync up with the factory HTC updates somehow.. perhaps when android 2.2 is released we will find a newer image that we can jump over to.

Until then, it seems the only way to get factory updates with a 0.80 bootloader is to crack open the case and solder a JTAG onto the EPROM. Let's hope it never has to come to that. :-)

Sounds pretty nasty! :P

Would be interesting to know, what Paul did to remove the security check of 0.80. Perhaps it was only performed before entering recovery console? Are you still running the generic, rooted ROM without app2sd that's been installed during the root process?

Found two improvements compared to the German o2-ROM: Facebook-integration in contacts now works without problems...was constantly crashing before!and pinch to zoom in browser does now rearrange the text. It only did on doubleclick before the flash...nice!

I have tried to install apps2sd on rooted o2 Desire. No way. Everytime the desire stucks at HTC Boot Screen. I think we have to wait for an updated version of apps2sd.

Any more details would be great.

Do you partitioned you SD-Card through bootloader or with external program ?

Which apps2sd Zip File do you used ?

Do you take any steps between like wipe the cache or something ?

Do you reboot between any steps ?

and so on...

A step by step guide will be great if you have the time for that.

Greetings and thanks in advance,

michael

Partitioned through the bootloader with 0 swap (I know we should not do it but I did it and it worked :P)

No apps2sd zip as its allready integrated into the Custom ROM

No Wipe

I did it without a reboot. (Flashed the custom rom from a non-goldcard like: 1.boot in recovery 2.partitioned 3.toogled usb 4.put the custom rom on the sd 5.flashed the rom 6.reboot)

does that mean we don't need the goldcard anymore once we removed the o2-ROM?strange...

Maybe a stupid question, but can you post the link to that custom rom?

It's the MoDaCo one. A2SD is available in the kitchen.

Hi guys,

I successfully managed to root my german O2 Desire. The problem is that I can't get any custom ROM to work. When I flash MoDaCo's r1 for example, it works like a charm - until I reboot the device. Then it starts spamming the notification that the process "process.android.acore" has stopped working unexpectedly. The only thing that helps is pulling the battery and restoring my nand backup.

I really hope that somebody can help me. Although I already love the desire with the stock ROM, the little features that were added by MoDaCo are really nice to have :P

Kurito, re-bake and all will be well. :P

P

paul, could you tell us 0.80-users if there are any restrictions compared to the older bootloader or can we flash any custom rom now? and is a gold card still required?

Guest Paul

You only need the goldcard to root... I've only tested my ROMs, so can't really say re: others...?

Just find the custom rom.. oh maan, more instructions and things i have to look for.

What is the advantage of the custom rom ?

I have to be a premium member for integrating app2sd to the custom rom ???

Reading all of the 20 pages of the thread and now: Just lost the overview :P.

I only want my normal htc sense surface with the abbility to install the apps on the sd card and i don“t wanna choose a way were is no way back.

Greetings,

Michael
