Snip...

Looks like you beat me to it

FYI guys this also works with UK o2 rom and may also work with other branded roms if you are experiencing the 140 error.

Hi,

I successfully rooted my Desire (locked T-Mobile - bootloader version 0.75) using Windows and all worked fine. I now need to return the phone due to cosmetic damage.

I have followed the unrooting instructions downloading the T-Mobile UK RUU. I have my Goldcard in my Desire but after the RUU tries to reboot my phone into bootloader, it sits at Waiting for Bootloader and eventually gives me an error. The phone just sits at the HTC logo screen. I have tried to different Goldcards with no joy. Any ideas what is going wrong?

Cheers

Hello there!

I am trying to Unroot my HTC Desire with RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_sign

d which fits my phone.

I am connected to computer

When i run the .exe file, it pops up that it has failed to start and i have to send an error report log to Microsoft...

I cant see that anyone else had this problem, and i have HTC Sync installed.

What to do now!? The unroot-process is so simple, but is there nooooo other options? :S

I found that the RUU_Bravo.exe was found as a ZIP-file on http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/

CAN I DL THE ZIP FILE,

PUT IT ON MY SD-CARD,

USE ROM MANAGER TO INSTALL IT,

AND MY PHONE IS UNROOTED?! :S

Please answer quickly...

Hi

I have a T-Mobile Desire. But want to put the Generic ROM onto the phone.

Is there anything specific I need to do or can I just flash the phone directly with the Generic Rom?

Thanks in advance matey.

You may want to add this to your main post, it took me some time to come up with a very simple solution :(

Issue: After the RUU tries to reboot my phone into bootloader, it sits at Waiting for Bootloader and eventually gives me an error.

Solution: Simply unplug the phone and plug it back in (leaving it on the HTC logo screen), and run the RUU again with it in that mode already.

Yes, that worked for me.

As stated in my previous reply: leave it in the state where it is sitting at the HTC logo screen, close the RUU, disconnect and reconnect your USB and run the RUU again.

Hey,

Just rooted my first Android phone and all basically went fine. I think I have lost my mind like 10 time in past 2 hours, stressed and little angry that I even started rooting. Now I'm unsure do I need the rooted version, especially when the 2.2 will be released officially. Yeah, say that Im stupid, rooted few hours, had massive difficulties and now when its over I want back to 2.1...

So I ask which RUU-file should I use? I have bootloader 0.80 and I live in Finland (does it even matter?). I have backed all the files with Titanium backup and all clear, exept the RUU version.

If someone would be so nice that he/she could post a direct link to download source, I would be really greatfull.

Also when I unroot my phone, which Android version it will be? 1.5? How can I get it back to 2.1.

Thanks to all, dont know where would I be without people like you. :(

Yep, you're stressed, and I wonder why? everyone on this thread is so keen to get back to a stock HTC so they can get a stock htc 2,2 update rom. Why?

You already have 2,2 (presumably) so why are you getting so stressed.? Thanks to this site and paul (and some others i guess), I have a stable 2.2. image on my phone that pretty much does what I want. Got some calender issues but i am reasonably confident they will be ironed out. Got 720 video, got good battery life, got root. You are getting uptight about getting to a position where you are "possibly" worse off than you are right now. So i would chill a little, wait a while, and see what pops up over the next few days.

Few simple reasons why I am keen to chance back to 2,1. I think all this is based to this specific rom, so I can't say anything about other roms (I have Paul’s MCR r5 with Sense).

First Launcher pro isn't working properly with this, can't set is as default screen. The application interface is quite laggy and doesn't please my eye. I have come across with other bugs.

So if you or someone else is kind enough to direct me to the best RUU for me, it would be nice. Thanks

Hi all

New to this thread...

I rooted my desire a while back. Dunno what my boot loader version is but when I try to run the tools it says im on 1.15.405.4. I downloaded the required file to unroot but I keep getting error 140 bootloader version error.

My desire is unbranded and unlocked. Please would someone kindly point me at the correct file to return it to stock. I want upgrade to 2.2 and the OTA upgrade is not working for me and Im assuming its coz im rooted?

hi All.

Please help me to know if i need Goldcard to unroot my android having ROM of 1.21.405.1 and Bootloader 0.80.0000. And looks like device is not linked to any operator (perhaps to be sure you can give a hint how to check this). Updated: found that 1.21.405.1 is stock so Goldcard is not needed. Correct ???

Do I really need to unroot to get update if the ROM is official (generic) ? (update to 2.2 doesnt come up :P ).

And are these steps still up to date (just to be sure... :D ) :

If You Have A 0.80 Bootloader: Download

You will need:

  1. HTC Sync (For Drivers)
  2. The Download Above
  3. A Windows PC
  4. A Goldcard (Not required for generic HTC Desires)
  5. An HTC Desire :)
The Guide:
  1. Make sure your goldcard is in your phone (If Required)
  2. Turn your Desire on
  3. Connect it to a Windows PC
  4. Run the HTC RUU
  5. Let it run
  6. & YOUR DONE! :D
Yes it really is that simple as these are Official RUUs from HTC.

You can use it to return your phone for warranty purposes!

If these steps are appropriate, as I understand i need to install 1.21.405.2 skipping 1st step and i'll get unrooted device. Then just update to 2.2 using magic "Check Now" in settings. Is that Correct ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey guys,

I have rooted my phone follwoing this guide:

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...iny-core-linux/

and then unrooted it following the guide in this thread. Now I would like to have my phone rooted again (I know I can't make up my mind).

My question is, whether I need to go through all steps of the root process again or can I just enter recovery and flash the ROM of my choice. I don't really know what the actual "rooting" of the phone is. According to this thread (http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howto-root-your-htc-desire/), I guess it is to install a custom recovery image. Wouldn't that still be on my phone or did it get revoked when I unrooted?

Maybe someone can help me understand how this stuff really works :).

Thanks!

Hard to do anything when the recovery is broken...

I dont know if you guys have managed to solve your problem or not but i have encountered something similar.

After rooting my desire (HBOOT 0.83 same as yours) when it came to trying to flash a custom ROM i could not enter the recovery mode, instead all i got was the htc screen with a thin black strip at the top and nothing else.

Well my problem has seemingly been sorted by reflashing the ClockworkRecoveryMod with SLED support. Recently HTC have made the desire with an SLED screen instead of the AMOLED previously used. I used Rom Manager to flash the ClockworkRecoveryMod originally but unfortnately that recovery image doesn't support the SLED screen hence the problems booting into recovery.

I re-rooted and re-flashed my phone using this http://crop.floodbit.org/~defer/reco...bravo-slcd.img and the Unrevoked3 flash utility. There is an option to use a custom recovery file in Unrevoked3 if you didnt know already. Using the above image allowed me to boot into recovery and therefore apply a custom ROM.

Credit must be given to lollylost100 over at the xda forums who started the thread with instructions and the image file to use.

Hope this helps
