Guest Golgo Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 I really dont get this... I know I've partitioned my SD card correctly for A2SD and indeed apps seem to be installed to it. Problem is it looks like they're also taking up space in /data! Check the difference between the to "df" outputs after I've installed an app. Can you make any sense of this, Paul?
Guest Paul Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Remember your app will still have config data, as well as the odex data in /data/dalvik-cache. I'm going to add a dalvik-cache moving A2SD option to the kitchen shortly. P
Guest cormie Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Hi Paul, any idea on my post above regarding stock android contacts app working on Desire at all? :P
Guest Paul Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Stock Android contacts app should work already from the kitchen? I tested it and it seemed OK? Or do you mean messaging? P

Can that dalvik-cache hack be applied retroactively or do I have to flash a new ROM with it baked in?
Guest cormie Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Stock Android contacts app should work already from the kitchen? I tested it and it seemed OK? Or do you mean messaging? P Thanks for the reply, no, I'm just looking for the contacts app to replace the Desires people app. I desperately need the contacts app to have the "Sync Group" option that the desire is missing, I have a detailed thread on the problem here: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...ing-solution-p/ and have been waiting for a solution since I bought the phone over 2 weeks ago, still haven't put my sim card in it because of it :P
Guest Paul Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Er, I can make a download so you can just push the 1 file. :P P

I have the option for viewing just special groups, not syncing. Do you mean this?

If it's in the stock contacts app, it should be in a baked build... P
Guest Anfuehrer Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 I also have problems with the stock contacts app. Linking accounts is not possible (i.e. link facebook/twitter/last.fm to a person). No contacts are displayed in the menu. Also, it is not possible to add facebook account syncing (not the htc version).

Guest winx199 Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 I flashed the rom with additional apps + chinese ime first, after I installed document2go, the gmail and gtalk stopped working. Gmail couldn't refreash and Gtalk couldn't even load. There was an error poped up when I was using document2go, but I can't remember it now, coz I clicked it too fast. Then I flashed the rom without any additional stuffs, after I installed document2go (I didn't even run the app), same thing happened :P Once I unstalled document2go, everything became normal. Paul, can you download the document2go from market, install it and take a look? Thanks a lot!
Guest crimz Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Paul or anybody else who might know this, in the Netherlands we cannot properly use google navigation so i found an other way for me to use it *. but it uses an other version of maps. is there a way to let the "Navigator Panel" use the other version of maps by changing the shortcut ? thnx for the help! * http://www.sizzledcore.com/2010/01/10/how-...on-outside-usa/ +1 Infact it would be great of there was a way to replace any of the default apps linked to the shortcuts - perhaps anyone might know of a way?

Guest U-Man Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Hi all First of all, thx Paul for the amazing effort so far. My situation and question: I already rooted my Desire using the R3 method and got A2SD working just fine through the recovery menu. Yesterday i got an ad-free account so i could cook my own ROM in the kitchen. I read in one of your posts that i need to partition my SD card with a FAT partition first and the EXT partition as second. I've tried this with the Gparted live cd on two different laptops but neither can even recognize my SD, only the internal HDD is shown. Any ideas what i could use to get the correct partitioning? Another question is about the R4 instructions. when i rooted i used the tinycore cd to get to the terminal. In the R4 method you mention connecting the phone and "•In the terminal window, enter either 'step1-windows.bat', './step1-mac.sh' or './step1-linux.sh' as appropriate." What terminal window? Can i just click the file when in windows?

If you're in Windows, you need to run the Command Prompt found in Accessories in the Start Menu or type "cmd.exe" into the search box if you're on Vista or 7. Once you have command prompt open, type "cd \" to move to your root file directory, then navigate to the required folder using the cd command again, eg. "cd \Users\User\Desktop\Root-folder" (You can find the directory path by right clicking your desired folder and selecting properties.) Now you're in the right folder you can run "step1-windows.bat" etc.
Guest ketanitem Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Got my Desire yesterday, and with the help of this fine tutorial by Paul I got my Desire rooted and have the custom Rom running. Thanks!! However on the first try I can't get wireless tether to run (my mac seems to be able to connect but didn't get the ip address), will try again later. Edited May 6, 2010 by ketanitem

Maybe i can try 0 swap, 0 ext2, FAT and then create an ext2 again? And thx Aelred for the detailed info.

Guest U-Man Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 Are you sure? My SD was partitioned by Recovery Console and has FAT32 first and ext2 last. Ehm well....i kinda assumed that was the case because the order in which the menu works is 0 swap 512 (or sumthin) Ext2 remainder FAT32 any way i can check the table?

Anfuehrer, can you please confirm that the quote above is in reference to using the stock contacts app on the rooted/rom'd Desire? So you do actually have the option to sync only 1, or more groups to your contacts from Google and that it doesn't just sync "My Contacts" but you can choose, if you had one, to sync a group called "Desire Contacts" and these would be the only contacts to show up on your phone? If this is possible that is brilliant :P
Guest waterc00l Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Some feedback: - bootsound still there? - Force close on start (htc widget download manager). Installed without rosie. random fc (rosie utility) - contacts.app from plain android is fine, but as soon as i do a call there is still the HTC Layout, not the android style.. what do i have to change to get this? (look @ ahmgsk mod..) - People app is still there (a way to remove it?) What i'd like to have: - Gallery3d (cooliris) - Nexus Lockscreen - Nexus call interface @cormie: confirmed, works Edited May 6, 2010 by waterc00l

You can mount your SD card in Recovery mode and use gparted or "cfdisk /dev/sdX" to see your partition table. I just checked mine and the fat32 partition is the first followed by the ext2/3 partition. I also used the Recovery menu to partition the card. @Paul: Any update on dalvik-cache on sd card support for app2sd in your kitchen? Edited May 6, 2010 by schlehmil
