Guest BigBearMDC Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Does everything work cause if so please release it as it will be so much faster and lighter than this t-mobile 2.1 rom It is indeed lighter than the T-Mo ROM, but it's awfully slow ;) GSM, WiFi, BT and sound aren't working at the moment, I'm already trying to fix it. It's the first ROM I got ever booting on my Pulse :) Best Regards, BigBear
Guest niko1986 Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 I've worked it out, my phonebook is tied in with the contacts apk. I'll just remove it and install the vanilla 2.1 contacts apk. You got a link to the vanilla contracts apk?
Guest Josh04 Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 To get vanilla contacts working, you need to remove the T-Mobile Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk, reinstall default versions of both, and delete /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db
Guest zerosignull Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Fortunately, this has nothing to do with the kernel ;) Just downloaded and compiled the Eclair source :) You could have ripped the files out of the Emulator image for Andoid 2.1 .....
Guest Roman Kapl Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 You could have ripped the files out of the Emulator image for Andoid 2.1 ..... I don't think it's a good idea - the files are probably compiled with a LOT of debugging turned on?
Guest AndyTaylor Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 Anyone else noticing dramatically improved battery life? My pulse normally lasts a day or so, with 2G, WiFi, GPS and pretty much everything non essential off. With 2.1 I can run almost all of these, and do a fair amount of browsing and such and have at least a day, often more.

Camera is quicker, and i get my location faster on Google Maps. So i guess GPS is improved also.

Guest MarcusHenrique Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 It's 2.1 Hm... I thought vanilla 2.1 came with all the botton icons. hehe Good Luck BoBo!
Guest robertopero Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 It's 2.1 But this is for U8230, not U8220, right?
Guest BigBearMDC Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 But this is for U8230, not U8220, right? Should work on both.
Guest Samlock Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 (edited) ...Please note the initial boot takes a LONG time! ;)... Are we talking 30 minutes and counting kinda long time? Worked fine with r4, just flashed to r6 and taking AGES to boot... Also my Nandroid backup of r4 doesn't want to re-apply and I (stupidly) deleted the zip! HALP! Should probably add, r6 with A2SD included. Downloading the one without now, will try that out. :) Edited May 14, 2010 by Samlock
Guest Josh04 Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 You need to adb in and do the mkdir /system/sd thing.

Guest lilim_ac Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 how to install this on my u8230? please need advise. cause this rom was made for u8220 right.. thank you....
Guest jonathonf Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 It's 2.1How did you get 2.1 to boot? I've built Android previously but didn't have a kernel to go with it; which bits are needed from the 2.1r6(etc) ROM to get a built version booting?

I've built Android previously but didn't have a kernel to go with it; which bits are needed from the 2.1r6(etc) ROM to get a built version booting? It boots up without problems using the 2.6.29 kernel :) The only problem is that I would have to compile it specific for the Pulse, and that is very difficult as I don't have all the files that would be needed to get it running properly ;)
Guest Tom G Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 This is probably not a problem for most of you (assuming you are t-mobile customers), but the 8220 roms (both 1.5 and 2.1) don't include settings for many APNs by default. Instead of entering it all manually it would be easier to include /system/etc/apns-conf.xml from the 8230 rom (or anything else with a lot of APNs) in the custom roms As an example the 8220 roms don't include APN settings for any Australian networks, but the 8230 rom has all of them.

Try this http://www.androlib.com/android.applicatio...store-qAwz.aspx Backup your APN's from the 8230 rom and than restore :)

I thought they had to under the android agreement.
Guest JingleManSweep Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 I've been using R6 (both with Apps2SD and without), and I'm experience loads of "force closes" and reboots. Not sure why as other users don't seem to be experiencing this many problems. For example: - Android Core and Voice Search crash on every startup (including first) - Setup Wizard crashes and restarts (although it does remember my Google login) - Everytime I unlock the phone, I get an "Android Core" and "Voice Search" force close - The phone reboots every 5 to 20 minutes - Random force closes involving "Dictionary", "Input Methods" When I installed (both Apps2SD and without) ROMS, I use the following process: - Reboot into recovery - Perform Nandroid Backup - Enable USB Mode - Copy Nandroid backup to PC - Wipe System (Factory Reset) - Wipe Dalvik Cache - Wipe SD:EXT - Partition ("0 Swap, 0 EXT2, Remaining FAT" for Non Apps2SD version, "0 Swap, 512 EXT2, Remaining FAT" for Apps2SD version - Enable USB Mode - Copy ROM image to SD FAT partition via USB - Flash ROM - Using ADB, create the SD mount point (optional step if using Apps2SD) - Reboot using recovery mode "Reboot" option Apart from random reboots (when phone is idle, e.g. no user input), I experience reboots when performing the following operations: - Immediately after voice input returns the processed text from their servers - After reading an email (not Gmail, but IMAP configured email account) - Occasionally after unlocking the phone after it has been asleep I've had more stability with the Non Apps2SD version. I have not installed any other applications (from the market or unknown sources). I understand this is a beta version, so not a complaint, but thought I'd share my experiences so far. Cheers, Louis
