Guest Treadsoftly Posted May 6, 2003 Report Posted May 6, 2003 Hi guys, Yup, I was one of the three that managed to turn up for the focus group tonight - allbeit a little late - sorry guys. Some basic brainstorming techniques, but the discussion was quite tightly led, and seemed quite revenue focused. I can't see anyone paying for this bit of software on their phone - I'm damned if I know anyone who would... They seemed quite fixed on this pay-per-chat model - God knows why? Maybe they're having success with thier Orange Chat via SMS thing they started recently. Can't see people paying per chat myself. I think we were saying that bundles were the way to go, but even then - the net is too strong a competitor for most people - it's always going to be niche at these levels of smartphone market penetration. Still, good to meet spacemonky and cmc2 there. Take it easy guys :) Tread
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Presumably it will be aimed at the high-SMS'ers who are likely to save money from such a scheme, rather than those who are more used to MSN-style free chats... (sorry if i'm pointing out hte obvious here :))
Guest spacemonkey Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 Oh, definitely mono, the end users will probably be consumers aged 12-16, so probably quite different from the people currently doing the trial...
Guest Rob.P Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 I couldn't understand the chat idea, it's like a double negative. I'd rather phone someone with the phone than type out a conversation on the keypad especially if I'm expected to pay for the chat and the GPRS usage, you might as well charge me for the chair I'm sitting on as well. I think they need to fire their ideas people and get some new ones (Orange, my CV is available on request).
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 I don't think it's a bad idea as such...just aimed at a ~very~ niche market. MSN is becoming just as big as SMS'ing in the highschool age (my other halfs 16 year old sister has over 100 contacts on her MSN list!)
Guest Rob.P Posted May 7, 2003 Report Posted May 7, 2003 MSN i can understand, cause it's practically free. What threw me was as you peeps were saying earlier, is the charging for this service, when you can get at a lower cost via a PC. It just seems that Orange are groping around in the dark for cash. I could think of a few ideas that would work better than this, but then i don't work for Orange so to an outsider like me the answers always seem more obvious.
Guest strathclydezero Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 While trying to retrieve the URL: http://trails.orange.co.uk/ The following error was encountered: Unable to determine IP address from host name for trails.orange.co.uk The dnsserver returned: Name Error: The domain name does not exist. Uh-huh...
Guest Firaas Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 I received this in my email this morning: Free Prize draw: Secondly, may we remind you all of the free prize draw we have on at the moment. We have 2 next generation SPVs and 5 SPV fabric keyboards to give away! How do you win? Every day that you log on between now and midnight on Friday May 30th, you'll be entered into the prize draw. As a bonus, you'll receive an extra entry for the first Music Lounge message you send every day. Maximum of two entries per day. So, we hope that will wet your appetite for a little more Music Lounge! The prize draw is governed by the terms and conditions found on the trials website. ... and wondered why Orange were telling us so late. I contacted Ben O'Flannagan, trial manager this morning by telephone, who investigated into it... On the 19th of May an email was sent out to all Music Lounge trialists. It was rejected my many mail servers. After flicking through my mailserver logs for the day, I've found that the email was above 5mb in size (apparently bitmaps), which is the limit for the majority of servers. As such, Orange would like to apologise for the cockup
Guest Bazz Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Seems like a desperate attempt to get us to use it. I haven't logged on in months...
Guest neilg Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 i've deleted it off my phone, guess I can login via dotmusic! even with those freebies it isnt tempting enough!
Guest Rob.P Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 At least the latest questionnaire makes a bit more sense than the last. Only reason I log on now is for the compo.
Guest spacemonkey Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Best question in the latest questionaire... Would you use the service more if it had the following features: Importing of MSN friends Importing of Address Book from SPV What? How could that be a useful feature? Urvasi is it's own network and you address book and MSN friends are probably not in it or would have different user names.
Guest Rob.P Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Prehaps this whole project is being run by work experience people or graduates, hence the lack of understanding of the product and the supposed market.
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 It should read: Would you use the service more if: You had a stroke Somebody paid you to Your life depended on it
Guest Rob.P Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 It should read: Would you use the service more if: You had a stroke Somebody paid you to Your life depended on it  Errr... Second option please, where do I sign up... :D
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Prehaps this whole project is being run by work experience people or graduates, hence the lack of understanding of the product and the supposed market. Oi!
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Errr... Second option please, where do I sign up... :D I got paid with a 64Meg card to install it, play with it, class it as crap then uninstall it, don't know about you?
Guest Rob.P Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 aawww, bugger! I thought it was gonna be hard gold nuggets that I could spend on some alcholic liquids, gonna have to pimp my 64MB card on street corners now  As I told Orange Trials, I only want money for my drug habit, I'll test anything
Guest Bazz Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Just got a code for a free copy of Snails off the trial team. Haven't downoaded it yet - will do it tomorrow when I can sync.
Guest spacemonkey Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 I got the scratch card freebee too... you can use it for anything off the orange site... (even though it tells you to get snails) I got tennis addict (I know it's been out forever but I'd never got round to buying it...)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 I didn't get the competiton e-mail or the compensation e-mail  (I have received e-mail from the trials team inbetween these times...)
