Guest jebise Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 (edited) This is a really stupid question, but i just don't know. We get all these lite ROM's that have 200MB free and the first thing i do is install all my apps UI and setting to the device memory. I use my storage just for music and use the storage card for all cabs. Is there any reason for me not to install to device memory? also if i cook my own ROM with my apps pre installed will that make the ROM run faster and give me a bit more RAM?? i was thinking of making my own so i can avoid reinstalling everything. Guest sinancetinkaya Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 If you're struggling lack of free main storage (this partition's name is ROM, isn't RAM), you may try ultralite roms You can't install all cabs out of main storage 1. If the default installation folder is constant (etc Windows folder) you can't change it even you choose different storage during installation. 2. If the related programs with the cab, or the exe,dll files inside cab have hardcoded paths, you can't install them to different places. For instance, if you install samsung's camera cab to my storage, camera key won't work and other programs will not be able to find camera.exe under windows folder. However, you can edit cab files by using cecabmanager. The files of cooked programs except modules don't work faster than installed programs. Because rom files are compressed files that cpu has always to decompress.

Well I don't think is stupid if I understand you right... You mean if the "Main Device storage" (ROM) is empty do we have better performance from the ROM we flashed and if degrade when we filling it up with the CABs? I think the only problem is when we fill up the "My Device" when we have to install a new program which like to be installed in there and not in "My Storage" or "Storage Card" then we have to uninstall some program... I never noticed any difference with the "My Device" full or empty... (I used to feel uncomfortable when I was seeing the "Red" bar in Windows explorer...)
