Guest Simon O Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Wasn't attacking you dawg, don't worry! I think Bobo is sleeping and the other mods must think we're partying or something! Back on-topic - what problems are even fixable? Because I want to know if this is a lost cause without the 2.1 source, or if it will be usable as an everyday thing. Which would be wicked! ;) No mods online in the Pulse forum... Pretty much every issue could be fixed if we have the vendor configuration for Android 2.1 as this would at least give us something to work with to create a configuration for Froyo. Kernel source for the 2.6.29 kernel (as used in 2.1) would, again, help us a lot and I'm fairly sure some parts of this can be helpful in producing a working .32 kernel (Froyo). WiFi and data are the biggest issues to resolve right now and they will need some serious manpower to fix any time soon. Tom is doing the very best he can.

All I really need is the phone, data and Wi-Fi. Although I'd fall in love if we had GPS and rotation! @Flib - So most things can be fixed, more with the vendor config / kernel and everything with both? Dammit Huawei hurry up! I really wouldn't rush Tom. Not because I want to be nice to him or anything, just he is the only person working on this (I think) and he really would need a break. It would be different if he had only the job fixing Wi-Fi, and someone else had other things to do. Edited August 25, 2010 by DanWilson

Unfortunately I don't know any Android devs personally

Guest gusthy Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) Thats the same feedback I get from the Cyanogen developers also. So sadly we're on our own for now. Why do they hate us? Btw, my original question about helping Tom G was about delegating some jobs - for example it was Tom who spent a lot of time debugging lots of access right problems, I think this tasks are possible to delegate. (Or to debug some pieces of code.) Of course, this would require some management efforts of Tom, but maybe it would worth it - probably it is him who can decide. For example, I also have a little bit more than 25 years of developer experience, from assembly to C, Java, etc., debugged Linux kernel in my life, and I don't think I am the only one here with usable knowledge. If we depend on Tom G only, it will be a dead project, since this is the nature of open-source. Recommended reading: The Cathedral and the Bazaar. Edited August 25, 2010 by gusthy

Turning this into a properly managed project seems to be best Idea put forward to date. Why don't the guys chipping in on development arrange a Net meeting to talk properly, rather than than posting on here? Has to be easier than working alone and its easier to share ideas and discuss issues. Discussing issues on here only ends up with you answering un-informed and misplaced questions, all of which detracts from the job in hand........ Just a thought.... :-)

Guest petz20099 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 I hope this could halp. It's config from pulse android 2.1 Am I wrong or it's almost what we are waiting for???

Guest Tom G Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Everything fixable. Rotate / Gyroscope: I dont know... Camera: Tom G stated its fixable with driver build. LEDs: ??? Wi-Fi: I think its in the finish line. Live Wallpaper: Not a big thing. GPS: ??? Network Choose: i think something misconfigured, and fixable. Maybe not. Rotate / Gyroscope: I dont know... Camera: Its needs a driver. The codeaurora source includes a camera driver from qualcomm, but it appears to be incomplete (header files are missing). I will have a look around the codeaurora site for more info. LEDs: I think these will probably work with some small modification to the aosp driver. Wi-Fi: The driver is there and working, its just a permissions problem. RIL data: Again, a permissions problem. Live Wallpaper: I probably configured something wrong. GPS: Codeaurora includes a qualcomm driver. I compiled it last night and it built correctly. I haven't tried the rom yet. Network Choose: Whats the problem? I keep saying I will make code available and don't (sorry). Before starting this froyo project I had no experience with android code and of the languages used in andriod the only one I know well is java, so being a great programmer and knowing about android is certianly not a requirement to help with this. I had planned on only releasing the device config stuff. Up until about a week ago that was all I had really changed. Now the source is a combination of aosp and codeaurora, so although it is working well there is no common repository to get the base source from. I will sort something out. I need to setup a bug tracker so the bugs can be reported and tracked in a more organised way. Does anyone know a good online service for bug tracking (I think googlecode has a bug tracker, does github). Am I wrong or it's almost what we are waiting for??? Its just a copy of /proc/config.gz from a 2.1 device. A kernel config isn't much use without the source to build the kernel.

Guest totiadrenalin Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Guys. Allow me to apologize for inappropriate behavior, but I just thought if I somehow get you the job easier. I did download the "pre-alpha rom", but since I read some posts in this tÑ…read post I honestly decide to do not flash my phone. I'd better wait for the final product. I wish you luck.

This ALPHA ROM not for the public (newbie users who dont know anything about fastboot, recovery, adb, etc.) ... I didn't really suggest a how-to topic, nor me making it... I did mean just you or Tom G starting a thread about the ROM and updating the first post, instead of it being lost in a sea of words. However, you saying that just made me remember the people that will think it's stable... Meh. Do you think you'll make it a flashable .zip (when it's close to stable)? Or will you keep it fastboot flashing only? I want my Pulse back. I want to try this... DAMMIT T-MOBILE HURRY UP!
Guest Azurren Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 A thread with a Change-Log / Progress would be very nice. Makes it a lot easier to follow your progress
Guest totiadrenalin Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 A thread with a Change-Log / Progress would be very nice. Makes it a lot easier to follow your progress My advice is to split the work on parts. For example someone that is mostly Informed about Device drivers and so?, let him get his hands on the drivers compatibility and so. Someone who know a lot about kernel and debugging like Tom can easy be focused on it. Someone who know a lot about java and Android apps? Whel you know let him make sure that all core apps will fit into the pulse android 2.2. When I say "one" I"m thing about a group (team)one, and the team work is the best thing that any living human being on this planet could do the best. Am I wrong?
Guest totiadrenalin Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) Analysis and synthesis Simply ? Now way!!! Without the Huawey's pulse 2.1 kernel source It's tremendous task for any developer. But at least teamwork can facilitate the work. Edited August 26, 2010 by totiadrenalin
