I have just changed to the r3 rom with a2sd+ included. I originally did a back using my backup pro, i have now restored all data and applications.. But the internal phone memory has still gone down. I thought by installing apps2sd+, the internal memory is not used for apps?

I think it will still decrease but much more slowly. My desire has about 95MB free although I have about 150+ MB of apps installed

Yep, that's right. Internal memory is still used by some caches and stuff, but way less than not having A2SD+ installed.

Thanks. But by restoring all the apps and data by using my backup pro a good idea? I later thought that I should of installed apps again from the market.

Thanks, i think its ok as i have 115mb of apps installed and i have got 108mb free. Cant wait for the 2.2 software where hopefully all apps and its data will be on the sd.

All A2SD does is set up symlinks that say "if you were trying to install here, install here instead," so restoring from backup should function exactly the same as if you installed anew from the market. It tries to go to /data/app or whatever, and instead gets pointed to /sdcard/wherever.

Thanks for the reply,

But if i go to /data/app there are some files in there so i assume some apps are still on the internal memory. Anyway im happy for the time being, just waiting for 2.2 now.

[...] if i go to /data/app there are some files in there [...]

That's impossible, it means A2SD isn't working for you. Try to issue the following adb commands from your computer:

C:\> adb shell

#cd /data/app

#pwd
and post back the result. It'll show:
/system/sd/app

and if you ls from there you'll get the installed APKs list.

If this is not your case, you have some A2SD issue.

Its ok, found aguide here on how to run adb commands.

Here are the results shown.

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb shell

# cd /data/app

cd /data/app

# pwd

pwd

/system/sd/app

#ls

Thanks mate for alol the help.

So i presume apps2sd is working. Any ideas why there there are files in \data/app?

I think i will install any app and see where the installation files go to. Ill check both \data/app and SD\data/app.

I presume if it goes to SD\data/app then its all working?

That's the point of what you just did. When you went to /data/app and put in pwd, it showed you where it was actually going: /system/sd/app. It's redirecting from the directory you're in (/data/app) to the target directory (/system/sd/app). It's working correctly. In other words, there's nothing in /data/app. The symlinks make the system think there is, when it's actually coming from /system/sd/app.

I've got a little problem too

First adb says device is offline, but that's another story

So I went to /data/app using better terminal app, did pwd and it is linked, but..

When I use du -kh in system/sd/app it says it's 57.2 M

On the other hand when I check the available space on my phone I've only got 56MB available.

So there's like 100mb stored on my phone, and 57 on my sd, right? Is this normal? :s

I have your same problem Need_A_Username, symlink is ok but the available space is not...

du -kh give me 44 MB but my phone say 13,84 MB for the internal storage.

I would like to fix it too because i'm getting frustrated to delete app each time because i have not space to install.

... the internal memory decreases because of the data that is stored within the /data/data directory. It's as simple as that

So me and 1nf3rn0 just happen to have downloaded programs that store a lot of data? :D

Oh and if you look at the size of a program in Linda file manager or something else, is this the size of the program on you sd card, ofo the storage it uses from your internal memory?

thx,

thx,

You could fire up the adb shell and do

#du -d 1 /data/data
Its pretty much the fastest way to figure out whats using a lot of internal memory. The output will look like this (the numbers are kilobytes - easier to find the big memory eaters *lol):
...

163	/data/data/org.connectbot

4	/data/data/com.htc.fieldtest

4	/data/data/com.htc.FilePicker

13709	/data/data/com.navigon.navigator

128	/data/data/com.htc.flashliteplugin

44	/data/data/com.htc.flash

4	/data/data/com.htc.friendstream

...

Usually I would just move everything inside /data/data to the ext partition on the sd and symlink it, but as mentioned by others in a different thread, this seems to be causing trouble. I have to admit I don't know why it would cause any trouble ... it just doesn't make sense and it should work just fine as long as permissions and owner of each dir/file are kept properly ... but then again ... I know most of my basic Everyday-Linux-Fu, but I'm a total noob to Android.
