Peeps, I'm no linux/unix guru by any means but why use the "cat" command to copy the binaries over rather than "cp" or oven "mv"

Is it just a matter of preference?

Guest Rudolfje

cp is preferred over mv, but cp isn't available. And cat does the trick.

Guest Snarkasm

Yeah, cp would be ideal, but it's not available. mv won't leave it behind (it's a cut instead of a copy), and cat works like copy, so we went with that.

someone mentioned earlier that full RW access is now available to desire? does this mean we could see a better flashing method coming or having the option of switching roms etc by menu selection?(if that makes sense)

We don't have full RW access yet - only maddoxus does. People are investigating his phone to see if it's something we can extend to everybody. There's also work going on booting from SD (which a couple of people have working) and other alternate-boot style workarounds.

All things in time. :(

i've flash my legend a stock WWE.

Basically I followed the step1 of Paul's r4 rooting guide for legend, but it seems not rooted

Is there anyone having the same problem or who knows how i can do with it .

sorry for my bad english

If you run step1 your phone is rooted even if it doesn't show the superuser permissions app. You can try installing from the market an app that requires root permissions, it should work.

Hi, this is an English only forum, so please post in that language.

I'll translate your question for you:

My Desire was usb-bricked and I unrooted it before returning for service; how can I fix the USB issue without root access?

I don't know the answer, obviously.

He could run the testRUU (for root) fix the problem and run the unroot process from the root thread?

Into fastboot, holding "back" button... Run the appropriate fastboot-windows (mac or linux) oem bootRUU. Run the step1.bat (check it's the right one 1.15 or 1.21). Get into the system, download better termianl or connectbot and follow the unbrick instructions

Hi guys, thanks for sorting this out for everybody although i can't get it to work.

I had flashed the standard HTC rom in the UNROOT thread to send it back to HTC but after seeing this i:

1. Ran step1-windows.bat with my goldcard in

2. Removed goldcard and ran fastboot oem boot

3. Created my image using the CID generator by Steve Brush. I set the rom to 1.21.405.1 as this is what it says under build number, within about phone.

4. Copied that image and the flash image to the root of my SD card

5. Opened ConnectBot and did "su" then "chmod 755 /data/flash_image" then "cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image" and finally "cat /sdcard/mtd0.img > /data/mtd0.img".

6. Re-started and the USB/SD connection is still not working properly.

Is there anything i missed?

Any ideas why it didn't work?

What should Connectbot output after those commands as when i did it nothing happened?

Iv got HBOOT 0.80.

IV uploaded the image file im trying to use and attached my fastboot output

Thanks for any help
