I have made a pre-rooted flashable ROM out of Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2 (without HBOOT, without Radio) and its running just fine on my Desire.

If I'm at home I could upload it if anyone is interested. Steps how to build it yourself are quite easy, just have no time to post atm.

prerooted ROM is not way to update phone. You must configure it again... Update.zip file to use it in recovery will be best option if we can't upgrade it trough OTA...

If I must reflash phone then I will wait until 2.2 will be avalible and than flash it...

Well as my first foray into Android Land my update from a stock ROM on a Virgin Desire went without a hitch. No Wifi problems and best of all there are now apps showing in the marketplace that were there before (though my mate who has a T-Mobile Desire was able to see them). :(

Just got to summon up the courage to have go at this rooting lark now.

Sorry guys, no upload yet. I just flashed a new version to my phone:

- based on PB99IMG_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28 U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.zip

- Radio removed

- HBOOT removed

- su added

- Superuser 2.1 added

- nothing else modified

- should be flashable to any stock-based-rom-rooted Desire via Custom Recovery

Everything should work with that, I just want to be 100% sure and wait for some feedback from a guy who did something similar.

How did I assemble this? I just used the HTC Android Basic Kitchen and changed su+Superuser to a more recent version, so no voodoo here - just filemoving ^^.

I did something similar. I created a 'rootedupdate.zip' which just includes system and boot.img. No kitchen. Handcrafted! Made in Germany :-)

It can be used with recovery. I started a separate thread in this forum. Maybe it is redundant what I did (basically I did it for myself, because I could not wait :(), but if someone is interested and can tell me how to share ...

Best wishes!

Here ist is (2 flavours, first one runs on my phone - second one should do it too but I didn't personally test it).

Important:

- please make a nandroid backup first

- use at own risk

- wipe should not be required if you come from a stock-based-rooted-rom

- I first had some Market lags/server errors/bugs regarding paid apps but after a couple of hours it fixed itself (this may or may not happen to you)

- If something is wrong with root after flashing, reflash Superuser linked at the end

- If something else is breaking - factory reset (via phone settings) might fix it

- I made this for my personal use and might have no time to support you using it

useful links that made this possible:

PB99IMG_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28 U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.zip - thanks to conflipper

HTC Android Basic Kitchen - thanks to dsixda

Superuser 2.1 thanks to ChainsDD

Flash su-2.1-e-unsecure-signed.zip from the above link if you lost root after flashing (didnt happen to me).

QUICK QUESTION ????

How many digits are the unlock codes ?

phoned orange told them a few fibs, "HTC told me to call them and ask for handset unlock code as a software update had stopped the phone working and that it was because of a conflict in software between HTC and orange", they give me a 4 digit code for both handsets I have with no charge.

Spoke to Indian call centre with poor English so a bit worried he did not quite understand what I wanted as took about 30 min to get codes, don't want to try update and unlock until I am sure they give me right code !

codes I got was 1523 & 1588

answered my own question!!!

just tried other net sim and entered code its asking for a 8 digit code, no idea what the code they give me is for then !

Would like to revive this topic as i still have the same issues and none of the posted links are working.

(I get a red question mark upon installing the update)

Thanks!
