Guest Simon O Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Just to add, incase people have missed it, Beta 5.1 has LauncherPro replaced with ADW. But good news! I have created two little updates for you. One update will upgrade ADW to 0.8.7 and the second update will replace ADW with LauncherPro. Now both camps will be happy and harmonious ;)
Guest Simon O Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Hi sorry to ask such a trivial question, but is the selection colour used in the menus green on this ROM ? Im currently using another ROM off this forum which has the menu highlighting set to green and it looks really good - not sure if this is a 2.1 default thing or not ? Thanks. Yes, it's green.
Guest jlgmax Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Yes, it's green. Great thanks. Do you just run the Laucher Pro update as an update.zip from the SD Card ? Any chance you could offer 2 "flavours" of the ROM to reduce the risk of the phone slowing down by having one launcher installed then overwritten with another ? ;)

Personally I wouldn't like to be producing more than one rom. Small updates are ideal for replacing apps that people dislike. Doest that actually slow the phone down (noticeably I mean)? It doesn't slow the phone down at all, apart from the initial boot where the new launcher is cached in dalvik. But once it's cached it's as fast as it should be. Both the updates remove the older launcher so you only ever have one on the system. Edited June 24, 2010 by flibblesan
Guest vassk Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) Personally I don't like the ADW launcher. It is not half as smooth as Launcher pro, the app tray animation is laggy and jolts and the bouncing / elastic animation isn't half as good :( Plus I like the screen to respond to your swipes. Not scroll after you swipe I think I'll go back to beta 3 Personally I like the ADW launcher. ;) the current 5.1 beta seems to be very fast for me Edited June 24, 2010 by vassk
Guest Simon O Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 ADW has the advantages of being a true system launcher replacement and has a great team of developers working on it. LauncherPro is flashier but it doesn't have a system version available. Also I hate the way LauncherPro adds an icon to the app screen along with always wanting to update via the market.

Guest whackster Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 run a2sd repair and see what it does. Repartitioned the SD card, and now it works fine ;) If I move the davik to sd, do I need to run the script every time?

Guest Mike Mc Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Is there a step by step guide to installing this rom for us non-tech heads please?

Guest Azurren Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Is there a step by step guide to installing this rom for us non-tech heads please? Try this: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...e-owners-guide/ How do you flash from recovery? You can flash it from the Custom recovery image. If you have no idea what this means then just follow the guide posted above ;)

Guest naniteboy Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) OK - I've been using beta3 (with framework) for a while now and I have to say I'm very satisfied with it (it's quite fast, LaucherPro works fine for me, and so on) but I do have some problems: - alarm simply doesn't work - I've tried it for several days and nothing, it starts immediatelly when I unlock the phone but not at the specified time ;) - I'm using WiFi all the time at home and in the office and the problem that I'm seeing is that I often don't get any notification about incoming e-mail on GMail - WiFi connection often seems slower than 3G !? - this is also very odd - sometimes Market works faster if I turn WiFi off - both aContacts and DialerOne (I had DialerOne on MCR 2.1 and it worked fine) do not seems to see any of my contacts (synced with GMail) - SMS that someone sends to me sometimes comes with a considerable delay (even few hours) or it simply does not come at all :D - Calendar app is very slow - don't know the reason but it can get annoying Now - I would really like to switch to beta5 if all these problems (or most of them) are sorted out - could someone please give some clear info about that? I don't mind wiping and loosing all the apps and data - I only use up to 15 apps so it's a matter of half an hour to get my phone setup for usage - even without backing up the apps ;) - but if most or all of the above mentioned problems still persist, then I'll simply wait :( There is a whole bunch of posts about A2SD and Dalvik-cache on SD but I'm a bit lost now ... is it set to SD by default or is it in the phone memory (which I would prefer - I have original SD card which isn't speed champion :)) Edit: I would also like to know - can I flash new framework after beta5 or is it not recommended (for any reason)? Guest Simon O Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 OK - I've been using beta3 (with framework) for a while now and I have to say I'm very satisfied with it (it's quite fast, LaucherPro works fine for me, and so on) but I do have some problems - alarm simply doesn't work - I've tried it for several days and nothing, it starts immediatelly when I unlock the phone but not at the specified time ;) Alarm has been working for myself, but it has been replaced with the original Huawei app in beta5. It may be better for you. - I'm using WiFi all the time at home and in the office and the problem that I'm seeing is that I often don't get any notification about incoming e-mail on GMail No problem with email notifications. Make sure you have synchronisation switched on. - WiFi connection often seems slower than 3G !? - this is also very odd - sometimes Market works faster if I turn WiFi off WiFi is quicker than 3G here. Problem with your router? - both aContacts and DialerOne (I had DialerOne on MCR 2.1 and it worked fine) do not seems to see any of my contacts (synced with GMail) Sorry. I cannot provide any assistance with these applications. I believe there are one or two people using DialerOne without problems. - SMS that someone sends to me sometimes comes with a considerable delay (even few hours) or it simply does not come at all :D This is a known issue with the 2.1 code on our devices, and one issue that Huawei mentioned when they explained about the 2.1 delay. - Calendar app is very slow - don't know the reason but it can get annoying Calendar is quite speedy. Could you explain in more detail why it's slow for you? Any errors, crashes? Now - I would really like to switch to beta5 if all these problems (or most of them) are sorted out - could someone please give some clear info about that? By all means try beta 5 but people have to remember that it's not a perfect solution as I'm working with (and often against) the bugs that Huawei didn't fix. Once we have full source code from Huawei along with working kernel code then we can resolve all bugs. This won't happen any time soon though. I don't mind wiping and loosing all the apps and data - I only use up to 15 apps so it's a matter of half an hour to get my phone setup for usage - even without backing up the apps ;) - but if most or all of the above mentioned problems still persist, then I'll simply wait :( You have to decide what is more important for you. Having a working phone or living on the edge. If beta3 works for you and you are happy, why upgrade? There is a whole bunch of posts about A2SD and Dalvik-cache on SD but I'm a bit lost now ... is it set to SD by default or is it in the phone memory (which I would prefer - I have original SD card which isn't speed champion :)) A2SD leaves dalvik on the phone by default. Edit: I would also like to know - can I flash new framework after beta5 or is it not recommended (for any reason)? Yes you can flash a new framework after installation. Make sure your phone has booted into 2.1 at least once before flashing the framework though. If you are using a dark framework then you will need to make some small changes to build.prop. Details can be found in the Framework Factory thread or the ultimate pulse owners guide.

Thank you for really quick reply ;) Since I can always go back to beta3 if needed - I'll try to "live on the edge" and try beta5 over the weekend :( Edit: About WiFi ... it really seems that my router is the problem - I was just connected to my friends WiFi and it was working like a charm! Now I have to deal with T-Com people along with T-Mobile ... aaaaaaaaaa :) Edited June 24, 2010 by naniteboy

I have to turn the router off then back on before it allows access.. So stupid. Used to do this with a netbook also :D
Guest wassupjg Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Great job you're doing flibblesan, I'm using beta 3.
Guest Mike Mc Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Did you install the Hungarian 2.1 t-mobile update first? No.
Guest Azurren Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 No. It is a requirement for any 2.1 rom http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...e-owners-guide/
Guest Mike Mc Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 It is a requirement for any 2.1 rom http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...e-owners-guide/ That can't be right as I installed the r6.1 ROM and it worked without doing the Hungarian update first. Is it just necessary for this ROM to work ?

Is it just necessary for this ROM to work ? The 6.1 rom was "Official 2.1" shoehorned into the 1.5 pulse. That's why it lagged and crashed so much ;)
