You're turning off the display :)

The new recovery uses the track"ball" to select a menu item.

I know. I was confused as the trackpad up/down didn't work for me at the start (slightly works now) and the vol up/down did. So I automatically thought the power button would be the select button. I was wrong, but it's sorted now. Thanks for this great work Paul!

Downloaded the file twice

EDIT: The phone needs to be rooted, didnt read that the first time.

Tried, and with a different sdcard (the one that actually came with the Desire) and still the same error(s).

Interestingly, when I first go into stock recovery I get:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Does that have any significance?

I think this is your problem, rooting changes the keys to test keys so you so this production keys the signature validation would be expected to fail

Makes me want to buy the desire and not wait for the evo to come to Europe.

O/T, but a handy tip for you - the Evo will *never* come to Europe.

Why?

Two reasons!

First of all it is a CDMA device and there are no CDMA cellular networks in Europe.

Secondly, the 4G radio is WiMAX - as far as I'm aware, no European cellular networks have any plans to implement 4G via WiMAX, and will instead use LTE.

This *MIGHT* work to flash 1.22 (I am stuck with 1.22 on my phone and can't root). But when trying to use the update.zip I get: "E:failed to verify whole-file signature" "E:signature verification failed".

Is there any way around this that may allow rooting for 1.22 roms?
