How reliable is the nandroid backup and restore in this new recovery mode? I notice the menu entries are slightly different to any of the previous recovery screens and also the nandroid backup I'm currently doing gives a more detailed view of what's being backed up instead of just dots that go on for 3 lines.

Otherwise though, everything seems to be working just fine.

If it's as reliable at nandroid and of course flashing ROMs then I'll use this method from now on :)

Many thanks!

Just tried to follow the instructions from the first post but I get an exception when I press the volume up & power button after it is in recovery, the error says: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

Just noticed that the first post says this is only for devices rooted with a test image, what is that exactly? I am currently on MCR 3.1 with an overclocked kernel, should this work for me or not?

Do I need to be rooted for this to work?

I get the following error when I try this on a non-rooted 1.21 Desire.

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

-- Install from sdcard...

Finding update package...

Opening update package...

Verifying update package...

E:failed to verify whole-file signature

E:signature verification failed

Installation aborted.

Hi

My guess is that you first have to format the card from the PC recovery.. then copy the zip to the card and do the ROM upgrade.

This is a nice tool for me at least.. yesterday I flashed rom like 20 times during testing :)

Brilliant, works finde.

Nandroid backup has a problem (sd-ext), because I have noch ext SDCard partition to backup. Would be a good idea to give Nandroid the option "Backup with or without ext SDCard partition".

Can someone confirm that this is currently only for the Desire, even though it sort of implies that it's for the Legend as well?

Thanks.

Very handy. Now I don't have to be at my usual PC to flash new ROMs!

Thanks Paul

Just tried the process again but this time I was able to access the menu from recovery & flash the update zip, it seemed to work great. Thanks! :)

If there is a way to stop the above error though, or an explanation for why it appears, it would be nice to know.

My reason for asking is that when I tried it I got this:

-- Install from sdcard....

Finding update pack...

Opening update pack...

Veryfying update pack...

Installing update...

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip

(Status 0)

Installation aborted.

Someone earlier in this thread had the same error and the reply implied that it was because he'd tried it on a Legend.

Has anyone tried this successfully on a Legend?

This is the same METHOD as used on the Legend - it isn't FOR the Legend. This is for the Desire, as it's in the Desire forum.

1:53:10 AM Paul O'Brien: I can haz Legend one too?

1:53:16 AM Koushik K. Dutta: haha that is the legend one

That makes me think it actually is the same for Desire and Legend.
