Phone Blank Screen, unresponsive

Sometimes during a call, the screen get stuck off. At the same time the the buttons stop working. Even hold-pressing power does nothing. Can not unlock. Touching screen does nothing.

All the while the call continues.

Only way to get back control is remove battery.

Any idea on cause?

This is random, but always happens when least convenient.

Sounds like the simplest solution would be to do a hardreset.

first, are you running any custom roms?

consider trying one out!

second is the light sensor covered up?

try putting your finger over it and taking if back off.

third are you using a lockscreen?

disable all lockscreens and see if the problem persists.

forth have you messed with any dlls?

I'd say backup your phone now, as I see a hard reset in your future as steel suggests.

all I have in your latest rom amd. I also have s2u2, but its dial screen option is disabled.

I would say uninstall S2u2 just incase, but you said it's random so who knows when it will happen again.

How often do you do a Hard Reset, considering all the flashing and cooking you guys do?

Flashing is like a "hard reset". It resets the device memory with the new rom. "My Storage" is not touched.

I had the exact same problem. Very random, very annoying. Mine also did it if left unused for over 5 minutes (it seemed at least).

I've only had my i920 for a few days now, and this is so far my main annoyance (also don't really like the way MMS messages come in now, prefer the separate folder like my i910 had).

I called Verizon, who really wasn't much help, but at least they tried. They had me do a hard reset (thank god for MS MyPhone) and so far so good. Hasn't happened since, but the night is still young. LOL

However, I'm stuck at the moment. I know I have to do the official DC23 update first, and my phone just won't take it (Win7 Ultimate 32). I got the download screen, then my phone rebooted back into WinMo, and the upgrade tool switched over to Emergency Upgrade. Did everything it told me, and nothing. It just sits there. I don't even have an XP machine to run it on. :-(

it will take a bit of work however, as when the official DC23 doesn't work it really sux.

forget DC23 for now, just try and flash with any custom ROM to get you going. you can get DC23 Radio portion later. but without a functioning phone you won't be able to think about anything else.

Go grab Octans FULL and get the win7 32 driver and hook it up, flash away. There is a How I flashed my ROM in thise i920 thread check that out. You can always flash DC23 later on, after all I went back to ck24 (well whatever the jan 2010 edition was) and then back to DC23 just fine.

I recommend you DON'T use the same computer to flash custom roms as the official roms. That is my own personal experience. When you overwrite the USB drivers for your phone the official drivers don't like it and will not work correctly. Easy thing to do is just use two computers.

Let me know how this works out, I don't want to leave a fellow Omnia 2 holder hangin'.

I think they did some behind the scenes updates to it, as the phone version has changed a bit. you can check your version in settings->version

don't worry once you have win7 setup once, you don't have to do it again. you may have to press the reset button on your phone from time to time (to get it to detect for flashing) but not the whole driver thing.
