I have the exact same problem, i can only sometimes find a satellite that gives me 25dB or so, nothing more :) Maybe it's because i live in a city?

This problem is not related with rom discussion. there are several threads and solutions about gps problems on i8000. My favourite is vagus gpsfix. please search.

Or everytime you want to use TomTom just restart your phone.

I used to had problems with GPS lag, until I installed Gary Crutcher's rom (JE3 ) + phone JB1.. I Think that the solution came by the gpsidril.dll updade (27/05/2010)...

Before that, I tried every tweak that I read in this forum, getting the fix in 3-5 minutes.. With this combination (rom + phone) I get the fix in less than 1 minute (using Garmin)...

I have an Omnia 2 and the GPS has never worked with any of the fixes I've found. The has been a big mistake from the start. The specs are awesome, the phone is crap. I can only hope and pray the Android rom thats in the works on this site has the support it needs. Samsung should be ashamed of what they have done with this hardware. Its pitiful. My Dell pda never had this kind of grief with gps. Certainly not the horrible delay it has when it finally discovers the device, it just worked. Hot/cold was the same, no delay, none, zero.

Anyone that has spent money on this phone has been robbed in my opinion. When I was looking at phones, it was a toss up between this and the Sony Xperia X10 and I made the wrong choice (a friend has the Xperia). I've bought my last Samsung device. I know they make many parts as well as finished products and I will avoid as much as I can. This was a disgusting choice in the end. Samsung suggests the phone is regulated by the provider they sell it to in my area, that would be Bell (i8000L). they can't communicate with themselves, nevermind determine how a phone works. This I know first hand. Home service, cellular, internet, satellite.... morons, the stories are gruesome. Hardware can be the best there is but, the infrastructure is dead at the root. Management/implementation is the worst I've ever seen.

Its opinion/rant, its also experience too. Take it for what it is.

btw - I was a contractor that upgraded the Rogers Wireless network in the Toronto and London areas in 07-08. I only use Rogers now and not that I worked for them indirectly, they have the better network. Dunno who is worse... Bell or Samsung. The phone should have been on Android from the start. At least the option would have been nice. Maybe then the gps would work.

High tech junk as it is. Again, if it wasn't for these forums I would have put this phone under my heel long ago. This is the only redeeming quality of the Omnia II, 3rd party support. Thumbs up MoDaCo! I await better times.
