Cannot root T-Mobile G2 Touch

I have rooted my own G2 around 9 months ago, and everything worked correctly. I have MCR r5, and am running it successfully.

I have tried to root my friend's G2 Touch, so he could have MCR r5 also.

I have goldcarded his SD, and none of the recovery .apk's work on his phone (version 1.1.3, 1.1.2, or the one I used 9 months ago). All get the error 'Backup failed' OWTTE.

However, after following this: http://sites.google.com/site/roothtchero/goldcard-2 I get to step 11), and I am unable to downgrade the RUU of his G2. His build number is 2.73.110.91. I have downloaded the new RUU, HTC Generic 2.73.405.5, but cannot install it to his G2.

My Windows 7 PC does not recognise the android device. Therefore HTC Sync does not find my device when it is plugged in, and neither does the .exe file that contains the new RUU.

I have tried this: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/w...m-in-windows-7/ (Installing the new device drivers for W7) but that isn't working either. Even after placing the Vista_x86 folder in place of Win7_x86, the PC still doesn't see his G2 Touch is plugged in.

This means I cannot root his G2, as I cannot downgrade his RUU! I feel frustrated that I've fallen at one of the first hurdles, it was easy when I did it for my G2?

Can anyone show me where I've gone wrong, or give me some much needed help please? (!)

Thanks in advance!
