Guest Rommie2k6 Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 I've noticed a few problems with using Swype on my phone. Firstly, there is a noticeable lag. This means that I can swype much faster than the time it takes for the words to appear. With very fast swype, sometimes I have to wait up to a minute for all the words to appear. Is there anyway to fix this? Secondly, during swyping I realized that background services get interrupted. For example, I may be listening to music in the background and when I start swyping the music gets distorted and the program close if I swype for too long. Has anyone encountered this? Any fixes?

Try setting ur performance to HIGH in the settings and see if it improves the lag problem...(Mine is in auto mode btw)

Guest Rommie2k6 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 LOL.. lemme correct that for you.. 'everything' Laggs on the omnia 2 :) I find Omnia 2 to be fast enough for my purpose. Except swype.
Guest azza6 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 So there's no fix? Not that I know of, I'm sure if we could get a later version of swype it would probably improve.. But we can't post swype here anymore. :)
Guest ray1234 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 I use Swype on my i8000. Except for 1 webmail site which was very slow when using Swype, all other sites' speed is normal when I use Swype as input. It was just as quick as swyping on notepad. Is swyping on notepad's speed ok to you? or is it still slow? there must be some software conflict on your machine, Swype is working perfect except for some encoding issues (I'm using Chinese language WM6.5, and Swype doesn't quite support that, I need to call up other input method to set the encoding first, otherwise Swype will default to Chinese encoding in some programs and output garbage codes)
Guest azza6 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) I just upgraded my swype to a newer version, it's MUCH faster. :) EDIT: I must have had Swype 1, upgraded to Swype 2 and it rocks! Edited July 12, 2010 by azza6

I have swype installed on my O2, I don't find it laggy when swiping, but I just find it extremely slow when the phone loads up the Swype keyboard (for example, when I open phonebook, the top half of the phonebook loads up but the bottom half is still stuck on the today homescreen/ WM menu/ Samsung Menu, then after 1.5- 2 secs or so the keyboard loads up) so instead I normally use Sorg HTC EzInput as my preferred keyboard. Guest ray1234 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 (edited) It is interesting how each of us seems to have different experience with Swype. I have installed one of the first versions, version no. 3644-3645. I don't have any problem with the speed and usage of Swype on my i8000. I have 2 questions : 1) where do you guys get the supposedly newer version 2 of Swype? I've tried a Swype 2.0 for HTC, but that version does not work on i8000, any newer version that will work on i8000? 2) will the newer version fix the encoding issue? I am using Chinese version of WM6.5 and the Swype keyboard somehow was default to Chinese in some applications, meaning I can type in the Swype English keyboard and Chinese characters will appear instead. To fix this issue, before I type in Swype I have to go to the Chinese keyboard to choose English and then go back to Swype. This is a pain in the a$$.... anyone know if the newer version fix this encoding issue? Edited July 13, 2010 by ray1234

Guest msra6la2 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 hey can someone pm me the link too? thanks here you go http://rapidshare.com/files/365188078/Swyp....10.10.5032.CAB
Guest ray1234 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 here you go http://rapidshare.com/files/365188078/Swyp....10.10.5032.CAB Thanks, there is actually a later version 6343. I tried but somehow I found the newer version not as sensitive and slower than my version 3644. Maybe that's because my version is originally from a Verison i920 which is specifically tailor made for i8000/i920. Also, I confirmed the newer version does not solve the Chinese encoding issue.
Guest darkworldzz Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 well there are a few alternatives.. slide it seems good.. but i have been using swype since it first came out :) but feel free to check here post 2 for more info on using swype by lord yuz :D http://forum.mobilism.org/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=108938 is this even allowed?? but whatever..
