Guest corbintechboy Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Hello, I am not liking this phone. I didn't like touch wiz and went with another rom to fix that problem. I came from a Droid (had to get rid of it as it gave me headaches (long story)) and could touch type really fast. I hate swype! The phone locks up rather often and every time I go to pull the battery it seems to snap out of it and not require the battery pull. Only email that has worked is my Yahoo. The threaded text messaging default app sucks! Did I mention I hate swype? Anyway, the day I got the phone someone told me to use swype with the stylus, needless to say on day one I scratched the screen (not to bad but I baby my gadgets and it is annoying me). I have tried to disable swype to no avail. I want a standard on screen keyboard with a good spell check I can just type away on. With swype I feel I have to look at everything and pay close attention. I hate it! On a lighter note the battery seems to last rather well. Some had said the display is great, it is indeed OK but I have had many phones and it is nowhere near great (Pre blows it away). Anyone have ideas to make me actually like this phone?
Guest azza6 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Wow man.. I LOVE this phone, a lot of people will say it lags etc. But with proper tweaking etc it's a great phone! (All my friends with iPhone's are jealous :)) Give us a list of what you want to be able to do and we can probably help you out.

(this would be my number one gripe) Better threaded texting Keyboard Auto correct (spelling) Less lockups (is this possible?) Everything else about the phone is OK. Maybe a better screen? LOL j/k. I have tried to disable swype to no avail. I am using AMDZeros stock rom remake and love it! What I would like is someone to make a Rom without everything that is not needed. Let everything be a download .cab away (including swype). I would try this but really fear bricking my phone with one of my test roms (I have horrible luck).
Guest azza6 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 So I just reflashed my phone with an ultralite ROM.. http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...-lite-20100514/ Which gives you all the CABs to download and install what you want. :) I'm not a fan of threaded messaging, but I'm trying Vito SMS-Chat right now and that's quite good, but it's only a trial version and kind of glitchy. If you use the normal samsung keyboard it has Auto correct in it I believe.. And with the ROM above, no widgets plus so less lockups. I also use the Ninja Menu so it doesn't use so much RAM. Hope I can help!

Looks interested and I want to try it but every time I try and download from that multiupload site it either takes me to a popup of complete randomness or it simply just says done with a blank page. Any ideas?
Guest azza6 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 These ones? Guest corbintechboy Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) These ones? Work fine for me.. Takes me to soundsofopera.com or just says done...LOL Shouldn't be an issue on my end (I don't guess). Behind 2 routers and a security freak with firewall and such. Don't know what is going on with that...lol Using Firefox 3.6.. Would try in IE but the thought just makes my skin crawl lol. EDIT: IE gives page can't be displayed! So the the I8000 is compatible with the Omnia 2?
Guest azza6 Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 The device was released as a million different things.. Omnia 2, Omnia i8000, Omnia ICON.. Check at that thread if you're worried.

Ok, flashed twice with same results. No cell network and I get a malfunctioning battery error. Love as lite as it seems and LOVE the fact that I don't see swype but without network swype is not the main issue anyway. LOL
Guest corbintechboy Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Just flashed with a Ninja4Life rom and it is nice. Has swype but I guess its ok.
Guest corbintechboy Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 You can change the default keyboard. :) The bad thing is there is no way that I have found to keep it from starting with the phone. It stays on and over rides what you choose. I truly hate swype!
Guest Pete B Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 The bad thing is there is no way that I have found to keep it from starting with the phone. It stays on and over rides what you choose. I truly hate swype! There is a registry change that makes other keyboards to be default. Can't remember where but it is in this forum somewhere. I actually made swype the default as it kept going back to the Samsung one before the registry change.
Guest azza6 Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Or you can use SKTools. :) Hope your outlook on this phone changes! I really love it.
Guest corbintechboy Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Or you can use SKTools. :) Hope your outlook on this phone changes! I really love it. Got a tip over in the ROM forum (asking for a ROM without swype) on how to turn it off. Getting used to the spell check (not near as good as the droid I had but anything beats swype). I am starting to like it. Now my complaint is the browser choices. Opera does not have an auto zoom (so it seems) to make my yahoo news more readable. Skyfire does not allow rotation but zooms correctly. IE on mine is mighty mighty slow! Maybe my expectations are to high...LOL. I had the Palm Pre and Droid and Blackberries (I can honestly say I like this phone more then any BB I have had). Oh well... I got 2 years to learn to like it or pay full price for something else....LoL. Thanks for all the help with everything!

What do you mean by 'auto-zoom'? If you're referring to the fact you have to select zoom level in Opera 10, i switched to Opera mini 5. Try that! P.S. I suggest when using any browser to set up a hardware button for rotation. Azz.

The device would auto wrap the text and present the text in a way that could be read without zooming left or right. I am slowly learning that this device (though good), is not as advanced as the Droid or Palm. Trying very hard to like this device. Scratches on the screen on day one bothers me as I baby my gadgets. Just ordered a skin that I hope works well. Texting on this device is somewhat cumbersome. The spell check is not near as good as any device I have ever used. The device is nice in the eye candy department. I like the layout better then Android for certain. Palm on the other hand with WebOS is hard to compare. The Palm was just so smooth. As a device the Palm was king of anything I have ever had, as a phone it could not hold a signal (would of kept the Palm if it was better at making calls). Starting to like this phone as an OK device. I find it rather slow at everyday tasks. The ROM I have installed is simply stunning. I think the ROM devs do an awesome job. Now I find myself checking the ROM forum for the latest and greatest. Really hoping they can get sense running good on our devices. Waiting for that. Thanks for all the help. I will continue to tinker and the phone grows on me a little more everyday.

Try looking for a different keyboard on the forums?

Try looking for a different keyboard on the forums? I don't want to interject here, but is your Omnia 2 a i920 verizon phone? have you tried the samsung keyboard (xt9) ? I don't usually check the main forum, I'm on the i920 side, but I saw this and was interested by the topic.

Don't even get 3G in my area and still love it. And I have used the Samsung keyboard, I thought it was quite good on the 9 button version. Edited July 15, 2010 by azza6
Guest corbintechboy Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 The spell correction was so good on the Droid that I could just type and not worry a bit (I could type faster on the Droid then I do on the computer keyboard). Thanks for the browser tip, I will check it out. I have no idea how the screen got scratched. A buddy told me to try swype with the stylus, may explain it I suppose but the screen is made for a stylus and in my mind should be resistant to that sorta thing from something it was made to use. I don't know. I am tying hard to like this phone. I will get there I suppose when I ind the one thing it does really well (so far that has been eye candy, the phone looks nice).
Guest Extremegmx Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 I wont open a new topic, so i will ask a few questions here... I saw a ROM that was exactly the same as the HTC UI(and it was fast), does somebody know what ROM was that? How can I change the lock screen ? My MSN contacts are in Phonebook, can I somehow disable that? Thanks, Greetings
Guest geebox Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 (edited) Try SPB Mobile UI, its customizable and makes the phone easier to use. Keep working with Swype, I didn't like it at first but now it rocks, I can swype better than I or anyone else with other phone can type. My wife hated it also, but now says she wont text without using it. I have the i920 and don't if there are major differences between the i8000 and the i920. My Ominia 02 is the best Windows Mobile phone that I have ever used, and I have used plenty. Edited July 18, 2010 by geebox
