Just installed FroYo (JP1) on my Samsung S and rebooted into recovery and noticed a new option to format internal sd-card - perhaps worth a try? You can always flash FroYo, try sd-card format then flash back to your current Eclair firmware

That's correct, you can format the internal sdcard from the Settings/SD card and phone storage menu. Unmount it, then format it. Backup data first if you want it back, obviously.
