Guest venturerider Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Just open the Zip file and remove facebook.apk from "\System\App\" Excuse my ignorance, but on my Hero, I needed to re-sign the zip before flashing it. Is that not necessary with the Desire?
Guest tetris15 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Just open the Zip file and remove facebook.apk from "\System\App\" Same goes for keyboards BTW i already have Smart Keyboard Pro on A2SD. So i remove UserDictionaryProvider.apk, LatinImeGoogle.apk & the LatinImeTutorial.apk from the zip. (and i also remove Launcher2.apk as I already have LauncherPro on A2SD) I do select the Facebook option in the kitchen but that's just so HTC Facebook Contacts sync get's baked in. The official Facebook app then also gets added in, but it should actually be a separate option. I don't mind this as i remove it anyway, but they do not rely on each other. I basically take out all the crap i don't need after installing alternatives to A2SD, then remove them from the r7-update.zip and reflash whithout whipe:) I already reported to Paul that there's still a lot of HTC Widgets that are still in ROM after deselecting Sense/Rosie, that shouldn't be there. But i'm not sure if he didn't get my message or if it's not that high on his to-do list. I deleted the file facebook.apk in /system/app/ , but after a reboot its there again... Did you mean I should run some kinda update.zip in clockworkmod recovery?
Guest Pieronip Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 /data/data/com.koushikdutta.rommanager/files/reboot works w I have ROM Manger but the above command also gives 'Permission Denied'. Trying to fix permission from Rom Manager results in 'An error occurred while attempting to run privilged commands' but simlutaneoulsy, superuser permission is granted. I have tried re-installing Rom Manager but no change. Do I have a different problem?
Guest tetris15 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 So if I bake a new ROM without the facebook app in it and flash it without any wipe, I will have my phone back with all the already installed app, except without facebook?
Guest klutsh Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 The Wifi N mod also drains battery, just so you all know.
Guest Jasperov Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 The Wifi N mod also drains battery, just so you all know. But does it not give you stronger wireless reception? Flashed r7 today and have already noticed its much nippier with launcherpro, thank god app2sd is working for me now!
Guest RevoWution Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 The Wifi N mod also drains battery, just so you all know. Hmmm, might need to re-bake a new ROM with Wifi-N disabled :| I have WiFi on 24/7 and haven't noticed any improvement in battery life compared to Android 2.1. This may be the culprit! :)
Guest RevoWution Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 But does it not give you stronger wireless reception? Flashed r7 today and have already noticed its much nippier with launcherpro, thank god app2sd is working for me now! I on the other hand have some pretty severe slowdown issues with LauncherPro. It loves to restart itself all the time (blank screen, followed by all my widgets and homescreens being reloaded), and it's especially laggy when I exit the Camera or Camcorder too :)
Guest Noonski Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) So if I bake a new ROM without the facebook app in it and flash it without any wipe, I will have my phone back with all the already installed app, except without facebook? Yes if your still on one of the r4/5/6/7 series. Excuse my ignorance, but on my Hero, I needed to re-sign the zip before flashing it. Is that not necessary with the Desire? In Clockworkmod you can disable the checking for a signature when flashing. Easier then resigning the file everytime. Edited August 10, 2010 by Noonski
Guest Sub501 Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 My home network has a hidden SSID, and it connects effortlessly - even during the first boot's setup :) Disable 802.11N WiFi support in on or off in your ROM? In the past I used AdamG OFHS 1.0c ROM with the same router and got no problem.
Guest dareal Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Disable 802.11N WiFi support in on or off in your ROM? In the past I used AdamG OFHS 1.0c ROM with the same router and got no problem. at home and at my office the ssid's are hidden as well, i disabled the wifi-n in the kitchen and i can connect to hidden networks.
Guest TheMegaMan Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 What i also do is never check apps in the kitchen that i can/have installed to A2SD. (Google Maps, Spare Parts, Facebook etc) May I ask why? What's the advantage in putting onto SD card what can otherwise sit in the on-board Flash (that I assume is only used for the ROM)? Or does the ROM actually share on-chip Flash with the rest of the system such that minimising it's size is actually of some benefit to the system? If you try and build a ROM with too many features selected, will the Kitchen tell you that, or will it just fail at flashing time? Or will the space allocated to the ROM on the phone always expand to suit the ROM image?
Guest Ovenscrubber Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Hi paul, any news on a Nexus One version?
Guest pfsykes Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Has any one got an update on S-OFF for the Desire. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746204 This would help as we can install files to the system partition during normal operation. Peter
Guest Paul Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Check your screenshot of the Dual Message app, you have both Phone icons too :D Getting rid of HTC Dialler allows the Stock one to appear, but causes FC's in the contacts sync provider Oh yeah, of course, the phone app is part of the Contacts apk isn't it *slaps forehead*. :) P
Guest Paul Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 As for the messaging wording on the ROM Kitchen, read the second half of your quote in isolation Paul, and you'll see that doing so, it means the opposite to what actually happens. Why would you read half of a sentence in isolation? :) P
Guest Paul Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 On that note @Paul though, there is a newer version of Titanium Backup, above that already in your ROM Kitchen - you might want to include THAT one in your new release for tomorrow... Yeah, noted, when I update this on the server it auto updates across all the kitchens, so i'll kick that off right now. P
Guest Paul Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Is this what you meant when you mentioned knowing about an issue with Widgets, or is this something I have done...? As to be fair, I think I only get the two 'corrupt' widgets listed right at the top in my scrrenshot, once I do a Titanium Restore. No, that's a weird one, no idea what that's all about! :) P
Guest skinnypupp Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Does this rom address the well-documented (and confirmed by Google) Gmail sync issue? .
Guest shadamehr Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Why would you read half of a sentence in isolation? :) P Because the first half of the sentence is much more ambiguous, and because the second part is supposedly only 'clarifying' what the first half is saying...? Grins as only a trouble maker can - but seriously though, like I say, it wasn't being mischievous - I wrongly baked my first two ROM's since going back to Plus again, because of the wholly wrong wording Paul, and another person elsewhere in the thread reported the same. Someone usefully suggested wording it more like the Email wording, which seems to make sense to me. - On another note, Titanium Backup, has again TODAY been updated yet again, from the one I referred to, so you may want to update to that one first. Thanks again Paul. Much appreciated with all your help mate!
Guest Paul Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 On another note, Titanium Backup, has again TODAY been updated yet again, from the one I referred to, so you may want to update to that one first. It should be the latest one now! P
Guest kayceejayh Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 A really weird bug, I'm on 3 UK and the network name doesn't show up on the lockscreen (and hasn't on any of the MCR Froyo/Sense builds). Something to do with the network name being so short '3' ?!? Also adding the Gallery 3D seems to break Picasa uploading, whereby some images don't seem to fully upload, despite saying they have. K
Guest Zarch1972 Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 It should be the latest one now! P Is there a new formal release coming soon? I've got a bake post-6th Aug installed , but I see there has been subtle changes since then. Not sure whether to wait or stick the slight update on??
Guest Paul Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Coming in the next release... Added en-GB localisation to Flashlight which now becomes Torch for en-GB configuration :) P
Guest blackcoffee85 Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Glad that my main gripe with Android has been fixed! Keep up the good work Paul ;-)
