hi all, i'm new here.

currently i am using Nokia N73, and i plan to buy a new phone soon.

based on my needs, i've made a preliminary decision - it's gonna be an omnia II i8000.

however, before i buy it i would like to hear as much user opinions as possible.

so, if users of this phone would be so kind to answer a few questions:

1.) are you satisfied with touch screen response/precision?

2.) are you satisfied with phone operating speed?

3.) approximately how long your battery lasts?

4.) are you satisfied with sound level over speaker?

5.) are you satisfied with sound level over headphones (let's say i want to listen to music in a bus; will it be loud enough)?

6.) is it true that stylus leaves scratches on display?

7.) is it true that only 151MB od internal memory are reserved for installing apps/games; the rest is only for personal files (photos/videos/music)?

8.) is there something else i haven't mentioned that you think is a downside of this phone?

9.) your general opinion on omnia II i8000.

thanks in advance!

1.) are you satisfied with touch screen response/precision?

It's not bad. In all honesty though I compare it to the iPhone side by side, and the iPhone kinda blows it away.

2.) are you satisfied with phone operating speed?

If you use the 6.5 instead of TouchWiz, the homescreen is lightning fast. However for use I find the SMS very slow. email is very good, and very fast when sending attachements too.

3.) approximately how long your battery lasts?

I have the CPU set on high and the brightness past half. And I use it as an mp3 player at the gym, and since it's new, I play with it a lot. I get to about 15% by the end of the day.

4.) are you satisfied with sound level over speaker?

Absolutely. Very clear and loud.

5.) are you satisfied with sound level over headphones (let's say i want to listen to music in a bus; will it be loud enough)?

It's not as loud as a dedicated mp3 player, but it does the job. Loud enough to give me that adrenaline rush at the gym.6.) is it true that stylus leaves scratches on display?

Don't really use it, and I use a screen protector.

7.) is it true that only 151MB od internal memory are reserved for installing apps/games; the rest is only for personal files (photos/videos/music)?

The memory is very screwy looking. About 70% of the memory comes up as "RESERVED".

8.) is there something else i haven't mentioned that you think is a downside of this phone?

Nothing I haven't already covered.

9.) your general opinion on omnia II i8000.

Love it so far. Not as flashy as the iPhone, but very useable, with a skin it's very robust, and WM is very customizable.

However look into the difference between Resistive and Capacitative touchscreens. Because as it stands now, my favourite is capacitative by a long shot.

thanks in advance!

I'm new here too lol

Replies above!

Also, the AMOLED screen is amazingly brilliant. A sharp blue contrasted to a black background honestly almost looks 3D. It seriously pops out at you. Very cool stuff.

1.) are you satisfied with touch screen response/precision?

Yes, it's not as fast as good as iPhone BUT you can use your fingernails. Much easier.

2.) are you satisfied with phone operating speed?

After tweaking a fair bit mine is faster than an iPhone 3GS.

3.) approximately how long your battery lasts?

My battery lasts three days with fair amounts of use, but if I use it a lot I can take it down to a day.

4.) are you satisfied with sound level over speaker?

Speaker is quite good.

5.) are you satisfied with sound level over headphones (let's say i want to listen to music in a bus; will it be loud enough)?

Headphone volume is kind of quiet but with SRS wow sound or whatever it is on (+a decent set of headphones) You'll be fine.

6.) is it true that stylus leaves scratches on display?

Can't comment I've always had a screen protector.

7.) is it true that only 151MB od internal memory are reserved for installing apps/games; the rest is only for personal files (photos/videos/music)?

Yes memory does suck, but is better if you use a lite rom like me.

8.) is there something else i haven't mentioned that you think is a downside of this phone?

It does take a lot of tweaking to make impressive.

9.) your general opinion on omnia II i8000.

I LOVE mine. It's great. It can do everything I want it to. :(

I would suggest thinking about whether you are capable of tweaking it or not, it's a very simple process but if you want something AWESOME out of the box.. This phone's probably not for you. If you can spend a few hours of tweaking it.. It's a great phone.

Hi My Answers to your query goes like this:

1.) are you satisfied with touch screen response/precision?

Yes, Im really impressed with the response of touch screen.

2.) are you satisfied with phone operating speed?

Yes, but not 10/10, I will give 7.5/10.

3.) approximately how long your battery lasts?

Mine lasts almost 2 days if I use it normally, like calling some browsing, some playing and it depends on your provider and coverage also. If you have 3G and the batter dries faster. Also I use my phones performance in "HIGH" mode and my screen brightness is "FULL".

4.) are you satisfied with sound level over speaker?

For this I give 10/10, Omnia's Speaker is one of the best in its class I noticed, its loud and very clear.

5.) are you satisfied with sound level over headphones (let's say i want to listen to music in a bus; will it be loud enough)?

Yah I'm Satisfied with this. Samsung provides, ear-bud type headphones and its almost blocks our noises.

6.) is it true that stylus leaves scratches on display?

You should care bout using stylus, Stylus tip is made from hard plastic and your screen is smooth plastic (If you don't use screen protector and your screen is naked), It will make damage to your scree of-course. Recently my nephew (6 yr old) was trying his hand on my phone and he made some scratches :( on my scree, thank god i had screen protector :(.

7.) is it true that only 151MB od internal memory are reserved for installing apps/games; the rest is only for personal files (photos/videos/music)?

Yup, this past is really bad. almost 70% is reserved for what????

8.) is there something else i haven't mentioned that you think is a downside of this phone?

None so far

9.) your general opinion on omnia II i8000.

Its one of the best in its class, as it was introduced iPhone killer, but it never went to that high but managed to made some louder heartbeats in smart-phone industry.

My total points out of 10 is 8 for SAMSUNG OMNIA 2

*please note this is just my opinion.

i don't mind tweaking, on the contrary, i think it's more interesting than getting everything out of the box. :(

and what would you suggest me to do in order to get the best of my phone?

I have been using the Omnia 2 i8000 since April and satisfied, things I like:

The AMOLED display is super sharp and far better than anything else - at least what I had compared to at the time with the iPhone 3Gs and HTC HD2.

Yes it is not quite as good in bright sunlight - but while indoors or in the shade - it is the best I have seen.

For your list 1 to 9 - all are good to excellent.

As to scratching display - as with any good care and covering it with good polycarbonate - it will not scratch easily.

For memory best get the 16 gb card and install apps there.

HTC apps are easier and more though than for the Omnia, but more are coming around now.

Hope this helps, Crocket

I'd agree with most of the posts BUT for the #7 (the rest are more or less personal likes) you can install games and apps in "My Storage"... I did install MOST of my Apps AND GAMES in there...

At the moment with the JF5 Ultra Lite I've almost ALL the original Samsung programs plus MANY more (as SPB's Shell-Time-Weather-Keyboard three [3] GPS [Garmin-iGo8-GoogleMaps] etc. etc.) :P and my ROM have 192MB free!!!

You'll use the original ROM at the beginning and that's the way for installing programs and games (of course FEW games and apps NEED to be installed in main memory like the S2U2 or the Shell from SPB...)

As for the iPhone mentioned above PLEASE :( we talk for phones NOT for FASHION STATEMENTS... :P

OMNIA II :(

1.) are you satisfied with touch screen response/precision?

Yes although this is my first touchscreen phone , they iphone touchscreen is better but then again i'd hate it if evrytime i accidentally touch something it loads up .... the responsiveness of omnia's screen for me is just right

2.) are you satisfied with phone operating speed?

Initally it was a big dissapointment considering their ads were touting 800mhz cpu .... but now the specially the latest ROMs .... the phone is pretty speedy now.

3.) approximately how long your battery lasts?

difficult for me to answer but definitely more than 50% at the end of a day ...... since i connect my phone to my laptop when i get home it always stays charged

4.) are you satisfied with sound level over speaker?

good enough for me

5.) are you satisfied with sound level over headphones (let's say i want to listen to music in a bus; will it be loud enough)?

i'm satisfied by the sound quality and sound level

6.) is it true that stylus leaves scratches on display?

I use a screen protector .... but be careful of dust ... i think some people have been complaining about dust underneath the screen (inside the phone) mine has a few dots of dust as well

7.) is it true that only 151MB od internal memory are reserved for installing apps/games; the rest is only for personal files (photos/videos/music)?

overall since the release of the latest ROMs .... I LOVE MY OMNIA 2 now ...... the modest free ram available is my only frustation ... i get about 70-75mb free ram at first boot

8.) is there something else i haven't mentioned that you think is a downside of this phone?

takes a lot of patience TWEAKING/FLASHING/CUSTOMIZATIONS .... but you end up with a great phone

First of all, use it for a while. See what you use and then flash an ultralite ROM such as this one..

http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...-lite-20100514/

Install the apps you want and need.

I use mine with very light apps (minus s2u2)

-Windows Today

Date & Easy Today Launcher

-S2U2

(Much better than standard lock screen)

-NinjaMenu

(can be found on these forums)

-Opera Browser 10 Beta 3

-S2P

(great ipod look a like music player)

Play with it, if there's a need search for something to fill that need. Something doesn't work just the way you want? Search. There is generally always a way to fix it.

Plus, do all the 'tweaks' from this forum too.

Omnia II, Tuned iPhone Killer Forever. :(

Azz.

How often, maybe once a month... I have been using the stock Dutch rom for almost a year now. Yesterday I flashed a lite rom, and for now its supurb. 90 Mb of free RAM and a lightning fast UI, completely rid of all crap. Fully custimized for myself as well. So if you like tweaking, this is a good phone. I advise to pick up a used one, here in Holland the prices went down very fast after the Galaxy S is introduced (altough its an android model)

never hangs or crash ...... newer ROMS are fast and stable ...... but still not perfect i guess ..... some programs that use to run now i can't use.
