Guest Dork6243 Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) ALL CREDIT TO ASSASSINSLAMENT over at XDA for putting this together. I remember using this on my i910 and Ill be damned if it doesn't integrate with the wireless button under the settings tab in the sense ROMs. It works on other ROMS as well by adding icons to the start menu. Install ICSinstall.cab ---> then install the comm manager ---> THEN in the registry edit HKLM/Software/HTC/CommManager/WLAN/DeviceName FROM : {numberslettersnumbersletters}\TNETW12511 TO : {numberslettersnumbersletters}\SWLDM201 ---> doing this will tell the comm manager to engage WIFI on the i920 After that its pretty self explanatory - enjoy EDIT: ICSInstall.cab not neededAL_CommManager_Suite_with_WifiSharing_1_1.CAB Edited July 31, 2010 by Dork6243

Guest tedkord Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 its like a sore peter, you just can't beat it That's how it got sore in the first place! thanks for posting this - I've been having issues with old, free versions of WMWIFIRouter.

I have not gotten this to work, infact installing this crippled my internet connection, and uninstalling it did NOT fix it. Had to hard reset, as I think some reg edits were changed that were not taken out. shows a funky icon in the task bar that I'm not familiar with. I think it has something to do with roaming? At any rate it tries, tries, tries to connect then fails. Edited July 26, 2010 by amdzero
Guest Dork6243 Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) Just tested on your ROM and it worked like a champ. Did you install the ICSinstall.cab? I know it doesn't make much sense being that most ROMs have internet sharing, but for some reason it will not broadcast without this one. So this is what I did : from a hard reset-- 1 : *228 option 1 2 : Install ICSinstall.cab 3 : CANCEL REBOOT and install HTC Comm Manager 4 : Edit registry from {numberslettersnumbersletters}\TNETW12511 to {numberslettersnumbersletters}\SWLDM201 5 : Reboot 6 : Go to Setting tab and hit Wireless Controls and toggle on WIFI sharing Thats all I got, let me know if that works Edited July 31, 2010 by Dork6243
Guest bmt10 Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 No go for me either, didn't mess up my internet though but but it just wouldn't create the network. At first I thought it was just because I had a typo in the registry entry but after fixing it and it was able to control my wifi successfully but still not create a network.

At first I thought it was just because I had a typo in the registry entry but after fixing it and it was able to control my wifi successfully but still not create a network. I don't get it. Im using it right now to post this. One thing I did notice is that it doesn't work if launched from the start menu icon. Appears as if it will only work by going to the SENSE settings tab, then wireless controls, then hit wifi sharing. Don't forget this an AD-HOC connection (peer-to-peer). I don't have Vista, but in XP all I did was go to wireless connection status, refresh available wireless networks, and there it was. I even got my XBOX to see and connect to it. (Don't try PS3 as it does not support AD-HOC). Also, make sure to set S2U2 not to lock when the backlight turns off otherwise it will power cycle the WIFI. That or turn off power saver so WIFI is always on. So remember, SENSE settings tab, wireless controls, hit toggle switch for WIFI sharing (not the bar) to confim that is indeed turning on your data and wifi. Don't give up as it is not the fastest connection but it is free and it does work
Guest shadowangel Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) Have you guys tried this one? :( I've changed some configurations (and the one stated above for the wifi) for the samsung apps... Oh... and it isn't only for Sense ROM's... I believe it to work with the other that doesn't have Sense as well... Edited July 26, 2010 by shadowangel
Guest bmt10 Posted July 26, 2010 Report Posted July 26, 2010 (edited) I think it may of just been vista that wouldn't let me see the network, I logged into my ubuntu dual boot today when I needed to make some dvd copies and tried it then where it did see the network but kept prompting me for the network key over and over and never was able to connect. Have you guys tried this one? :( I've changed some configurations (and the one stated above for the wifi) for the samsung apps... Oh... and it isn't only for Sense ROM's... I believe it to work with the other that doesn't have Sense as well... This one didn't work for me either, it just timed out when trying to connect to it. It also prevented me from connecting to my normal wireless network until I uninstalled and did a soft restart. Edited July 26, 2010 by bmt10

Don't give up as it is not the fastest connection but it is free and it does work I was able to connect my win7 64-bit laptop to my Omnia II i920 just fine. The connection was very fast. But after the connection was made, the icon in the tray (bottom right of my laptop) says no internet connection. That is when I was not able to bring up the internet on my phone with wifi sharing or without wifi sharing. I uninstalled, AND soft reset, but it didn't work, had to hard reset. This was NOT with my sense rom, as I was testing my ZeroStock rom at the time. This could have been the reason it did not work as shadowangel suggests. I'll try again with ZeroSense later on if I have time.

It took a bit longer for the SCH-i920 connection to show up on my son's laptop than ususal, but it did. And I loaded Google through the connection. I'm gonna try again today - both connecting the phone to my home network, then using it as a router for one of the laptops. One of the problems I had with WMWifiRouter on thre i920 is it would always try to connect to that when I was trying to connect to my home network - and would not allow me to choose otherwise. EDIT: Yep, working. I'm typing over the CM connection right now. Man, VZW's "broadband" is slooooooooooooooooow. Makes this connection only marginally useful, but you never know when you'll need some sort of internet access. EDIT Part II: Tried again last night at work with a coworker's netbook. Worked again, again took a bit longer to find the WIFI connection, but not outrageously long (not like my old i910 looking for GPS satellites :( ) Edited July 28, 2010 by tedkord
Guest bmt10 Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Well I tried this again with a different rom(yardis lite rom) and it works, took a moment for the network to show up but I'm posting this from it. This is the one in the OP I haven't tried shadowangels. Will come in usefull next week when I go on vacation and wont have any other internet, was planning on using a trialof wmwifi but this loads up much faster.

Guest norm883 Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 I have read and tried all these best I get is to see it on the laptop, but no connection established when I hit connect. Any suggestions? Even tried combos of all of the about. Norm883

Then hit the sharing slider and verify that it turns on data connection and enables wifi. Once verified, all is good on the phone side of things, shut down all but phone slider. From there it would be a good idea to delete the preferred network it created from your connection list on your pc/laptop. Start over. Enable wifi sharing on the phone. Refresh available wireless networks. Find SSID on available list and select it. Enter key 1234567890 (or whatever yours might be) and connect. Now it should be acquiring network address. Once acquired, check status of connection and make sure it has given you an ip of 192.186.1.xx. IF it has an ip that starts with 169 or 162.xxx.xx.xx something is wrong. This happened to me once and deleting the network off preferred list and starting over worked. I don't know much about the cause of this issue but I know that it is common and is discussed here, and here if the problem persists.

It is given only if there is a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) error. Basically it just means your laptop/pc was not able to obtain an ip address from your htc wifi sharing app. this program works well now that I'm using my sense enabled rom. ill probably cook it into the next release of ZeroSense

Guest amdzero Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Nope not needed Internet Connection Sharing is available on all windows mobile devices directly from microsoft. the stock rom from Samsung does not have it because they take it out, probably a request from vzn. ICS is on all of my roms including ZeroSense. so no that ics cab is not needed for my sense roms. you can connect via bluetooth or usb with ics for free from your phone. although vzn will offer the same "tethering" service for an additional charge if you use their software.

Im in florida and have run a few tests on the laptop, i average around 300-400kbps, sometimes as low as 156-200 tested at mobilespeedtest.com
Guest norm883 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 WOW, Flashing is a breeze compared to this! I have tried them all even the bluetooth. And no go. Even found a free copy of this and no luck. http://www.wmwifirouter.com/ Even hard reset and started from scratch but no luck. It sees all that I setup but then says no connection or internet. But appears to be paired even says connected? Hopefully a good cap can be developed with all the necessary requirements. Thanks guys. Norm883

Here is the SAME CAB with the modified reg setting included: AL_CommManager_Suite_with_WifiSharing_1_1_2_.CAB

I have aspects of function but no true connection. I can connect with USB with a1.05 Mps download on speedeasy. It has to be a coflict the the Steel .65 ROM. I believe my phone 1920 is a "hybrid" since I got for a replacement on the final death of the i910 Seems not to mind things you guys are having problems with and vis/versa I killed the poor i910 on a final VZW upgrade with a old 1.0 USB XP Laptop AM tying to stay with pure Win 7 X 64 and VZW software & WMDC, hates this environment. This phone loves SPB Backup, luckily helps with contacts and Emails Use Octans on a pure XP Pro x32 environment that I reformated just for my new (honey) i920 Can't wait for 1/16/11 upgrade son's Increadible make me look like the pony express I do love this screen and the HTC Sense Ported. I am sure future builds will include. Norm883
