[HELP] for my Omnia II/GT-I8000

I am pretty new to this device. I had hoped this would work for me.

I have a few issues with this phone and hope you gurus can help.

I have Google Maps installed on the phone. But, I cannot open a contact and map to the address provided. Even more annoying is that the best approximation I get is 1700 Meters (daunting! ha ha ha).

I have Skype v3 working on the phone, but no front camera. I cannot even take a self-portrait using the camera.

I have combed through the forums for an answer to no avail.

I have downloaded the latest ROM (I think).

This is what I have.

PDA: I8000NXXJD6

CSC: I8000XEUJD9

I have tried to download an original ROM using the FUS Downloader (designed by Quattro Formaggi). I am unable to find a more updated firmware.

Please keep me away from my Blackberry and Android.

1. if u want google map to pin point u within 20m, u have to enable GPS first. dont knpw about contact thingy though.

2. u have to edit REG. HKCU > Software > Samsung > Camera > add Dword > SupportFrontCamera = 1 to enable front camera.

3. I8000NXXJD6 is out of date, the latest ROM is JG4 although u mignt wanna hold on a bit. but JF5 is working fine.

4. most important, this is the place to get latest ROM :(

If you take a look at the first post from the sticky section I believe most, if not all, of your questions will be answered.

I think I have enabled GPS. After started Google Maps, I enabled "Use GPS" from from the settings menu. I did not find anywhere else to enable/disable GPS. I did find GPS in the settings menu but did not find enable/disable option there either. Contact thingy is not important. Google Maps on Blackberry integrates into the addressbook and "Show on Google Maps" is added to the context menu. I wish there was the same option on WinMo

As for the front camera, I downloaded and install PHP RegEdit as one of the threads suggested, I wasn't able to open the registry. It just asked me to open a file.

Can you tell me where I can get the JF5 ROM? I have looked through the I8000 ROM discussion threads and I could not find a non-cooked rom.

JF5 official ROM, search in the forum and u will find something to fine tune your GPS :(

Where can I download the latest ROM JG4 ROM you mentioned. Quattro program does not work on my windows OS and neither can I use kingmobi website as I have tried to register several times in the past without any success. I am one of the people who heavily rely on what you guys upload or let us when there is a new ROM out there. Waiting on you Lancez. By the way now that you have turned a cooker what are trying to cook now ? Lol

You can download and install both Resco explorer and Resco registry. Then edit the registry to ur taste.

seems JG4 is like a day old only

but JF5 is fast and stable .... if you look at the threads most modded roms are now based on JF5

u can find JG4 here, but i dont recommend you to flash that just yet.

I can now use the front camera. I wonder why this is disabled; it's working anyhow.
