Guest Bigr215 Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 I have had a T-Mobile prepaid sim in the streak since Monday and its worked fine. I have plans of waiting for a week to see if the account is suspended although i dont think it will, and then possibly looking into a T-Mobile account or some other GSM account. I was able to make such a stink with AT&T that they sent me a free Motorola Backflip (the worst android phone known to man).
Guest sgeorge Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 so far it's still good. it's been an hour. i hope it doesn't get suspended again. So, what is the current. Did they ever lock you out again?
Guest x-kid Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 it's still working for me a day and half later. i hope it stays like this.
Guest Bigr215 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 So today my "beta" streak was turned off again (account suspended with att) for the third time. I called and to make a long story short they offered me a Samsung Captivate w/ a 2yr contract for $100. I am still inclined to change carriers. Maybe an Evo. I have had it with ATT and Dell. I will definatley never buy another dell product.
Guest BigPrince Posted August 20, 2010 Report Posted August 20, 2010 I just got another unauthorized device message again. I have a beta streak with -21 2.1 on it. Anyone else with Beta Streaks getting this?

Anyone else with Beta Streaks getting this? Just got off the phone with Dell, some of y'all may know this but Dell Beta Streaks are banned from all future use on all carriers(I bet T-Mo doesn't care - just AT&T). Time to get a refund and a Droid X.
Guest jmm72 Posted August 21, 2010 Report Posted August 21, 2010 I have a Beta Dell Streak I received from participating in the Congress Avenue Mile race in Austin. I have been an AT&T customer for 6 years and they are refusing to provide service to the Streak. I have called them as well as Dell and nobody can seem to provide me with a valid reason as to why this is the case. AT&T's policy is that they will provide service to any compatible GSM device a user brings to the table, and they are not holding up their policy for some reason. I filed a complaint against AT&T with the FCC online this morning. I suggest others do the same. Perhaps they will listen ... http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

I fully understand Dell not providing support/etc as this is a beta phone HOWEVER AT&T has no valid scrupulous reason to dissallow it's use on their network.
Guest jmm72 Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 I agree BigPrince. I am fully aware that if this beta phone breaks, I'll be buying a new phone, but AT&T shouldn't care one way or another. If the FCC gets a thousand complaints, maybe AT&T will back off!

So they suspended my account for the second time. I called in and they did not say anything about the streak only they were sorry it got suspended and turned the account back on. We'll see how long it stays on this time.
Guest jmm72 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Mine was suspended for the third time today and like you, I called and they just turned it back on. The powers-that-be that are behind this are not sharing any information because their own customer service reps and their supervisors have no idea what is going on. They have all been more than helpful in getting my service restored. I posted on a Dell forum today and received an uninformative and evasive response from someone at Dell. Here is the link to the exchange: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forum...1.aspx#19739791 The longer this goes on, the more I feel it is a matter of principle ... I'm in Austin, where the devices originated, and I'm one more incident away from contacting one of the local news stations about this unfortunate situation.

I'm in Austin, where the devices originated, and I'm one more incident away from contacting one of the local news stations about this unfortunate situation. I'm not sure I'd call this "uninformative or evasive" at all (from the Dell rep): Please note that the recipients signed a document agreeing to the following terms. · After the trial period, these units are no longer active on the AT&T network, but can be used in a Wi-Fi environment You could call it unfortunate, or misguided, or even mean, but it's pretty clear they planned this and told everybody that legally participated in the beta test/feedback event. Listen man I think it's too bad Dell decided to do this. I lost $200 on a beta/ebay unit that died the day I got it. But do I think Dell lied, deceived, or did anything to warrant "news coverage" of this issue? Nope. They spelled out that they would be deactivated, and have their reasons for this (beta=experimental not production). Remember nobody was forced to play with the betas and respond to the survey. Just sell it to a T-Mo or out of country user and be glad you got that much for it. Consider that a gift if you got yours for free. That's more than I can say. I'm not trying to jump on anybody here. All three of the Streak forums I frequent have at least one thread about how Dell "screwed" people and I just don't think that's true. Depending on a risk/reward analysis I might have done exactly what they did for the same reasons they did. Suppose the radio firmware in your beta Streak was updated for the production AT&T Streaks. If they try to fix your old firmware, guess what now they're doing exactly what they didn't want - supporting beta units. If they don't fix it, then AT&T has got a bunch of flaky Streaks calling in for problems. Do I think this happened? Probably not, but it's for just these kinds of scenarios big companies do things like this. Risk/reward - welcome to corporate CYA! Good luck though, maybe somebody somewhere along the chain will have a soft spot and throw you guys a bone!!
Guest jmm72 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 My interpretation, as I think was the case with many others of: "After the trial period, these units are no longer active on the AT&T network, but can be used in a Wi-Fi environment." was: the sim card we provided you for free service for 30 days through AT&T will no longer be active. Note that they do go on to say: "Your Streak, while it may function on some carrier networks, is a beta phone and is therefore not certified on any carrier network, so it may not function normally. Any such use will be subject to and your carrier’s data and voice plan."
Guest bostonguy Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Note that they do go on to say: "Your Streak, while it may function on some carrier networks, is a beta phone and is therefore not certified on any carrier network, so it may not function normally. Any such use will be subject to and your carrier’s data and voice plan." So again, they're dead on correct, honest and fair. It does in fact function on other carrier networks. I'm sure Dell and AT&T agreed before this event even occurred that all beta (important to remember here we're not talking about production units here) Streak's given away would then be banned from the AT&T network. Is it the nicest thing they could do? No. Is it mean or deceitful? No. It's just an everyday business decision, risk vs. reward. In their (Dell and AT&T) opinion the risk was too great, and the reward was too small. Sell the beta to a T-Mo or out of country user, be glad you got SOMETHING for nothing, and put it all in your rear view mirror.
Guest crash6 Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Anyone who has a beta at&t unlocked streak what has been locked out and looking to sell I have a whole bunch of people here in canada looking to purchase. Please pm me
