Is enabled by default (at least on my network) with stock 09 and 39 kernel.

The status can be seen in the hidden menu (*#*#4636#*#*), advanced settings.

With custom kernels based on your git repository, it's disabled and trying to enable it from the menu has no effect (still disabled when back in the menu).

I've tried to search into the code and set some property like the N1 (i.e. ro.ril.fd) but still had no success in enabling it.

Even with undervolted kernel, this option seems to have the largest impact on battery life when using 3g data connections.

Hi,

yes i noticed this as well, using LCR 1.7.3 ROM, i cant enable it it keeps on disabling ??

i knew that the profiles in setcpu run as a service in the background but i figured that after you manually set min freq as low as u can go and go into powersave governer when the screen is off, it still saves more battery then without setcpu.

Can somebody clarify please?

How does phh's 998mhz kernel handle frequencies on its own? does it ever go down to 245mhz as well? Im kind of curious now.

All kernels (even stock one) can go as down as 245MHz, without any trick, it's the default setting.

Problem found thanks, but that's going to be problematic...

Sounds like Acer didn't actually give us the real kernel sources.

Knowing the links between Acer and Codeaurora(qualcomm), I'd say it's not Acer's fault though.

Still it's going to be tough to fix...

I am with custom 998 kernel and stock rom 0.5 and can enable option, so it might be system problem.

And is still enabled when you reenter menu? :)

Can we contact Acer about this issue? This has a pretty large effect on using custom ROMs

This is a kernel thing? bin dependent?

Definitely kernel thing.

The parameter is in /sys/power/fast_dormancy, there is a also a /sys/power/ip_filter that doesn't exist in the kernel that is in Acer's kernel.

I can tell for mostly sure that at least kernel/power/main.c isn't the right one.

I was going to make a new thread but i figured why waste space id just put it here instead.

So i just saw ebay has a bunch of 1500 mah batteries made in china for sale. The sellers have really good feedback and nobody has complained about them.

as well these seem to be stock size too so no extra bulging backplate.

what do you guys think? worth $15 with shipping just to try it out?

this is the link

http://cgi.ebay.ca/FULL-CAPACITY-battery-A...=item3a5d8787a0

i know this is a development forum but since we were on the issue of battery life and such.

They're cheaper than the other ones, which afaik were actually 1500mAh's as well, I'd say it's worth a try. Can't wait for someone to pull off the sticker and report the actual capacity :).

which other ones are u referring to exactly?

The one you linked to :)?

EDIT: Ah I see what you mean, the ones that appeared quite some time before these, they were advertised as being 2100mAh or something.

ohhh. i slightly remember someone over on xda forums ordering one but i never actually saw what happened. lol i guess he was pissed.

theres no way they could make a stock sized 2000 mah battery. physically the cells wouldnt fit. at least not with li on technology yet.

Also I turn off my phone at night instead of flight mode. Unless one believes that booting up Android & reloading the SIM contacts takes up more battery power than 8 hrs of flight mode.

BTW, I tested this on my Liquid with stock 1.100.39 ROM (rooted & removed some Acer apps, around 1% batt drain per hour cell standby). Airplane mode at night while I slept drained about 1-2% battery when I checked in the morning. Turning off & on (waiting until system rebooted completely & ready to use) resulted in 0-1% battery drain. So I'll continue to turn it off when not needed instead of airplane mode.

You should compare battery percentage after at least 20-30 minutes after reboot, I think. Boot triggers a lot of processes and launch many apps that can use cpu/network for more time than just awake it from flight mode.

And anyway, alarms doesn't work when turned off, so most people like me must put it in flight mode anyway.

Have you guys ever tried the super simple things like:

- turn off window animations

- turn off keyboard vibrate (also, if you are used to your phone you can turn off haptic feedback since vibrate rapes phone batteries)

- use spare parts to change the wifi sleep policy and activity/process manager of the phone

- (maybe) using LauncherPro downloaded from market and set to default on top of the stock launcher could kill battery, so since you are all using rooted phones try removing the default launcher and putting the custom launcher under /system/app/ and fixing the permissions

- Also, don't get an automatic task killer, instead get a manual one and use the Kill All function just after turning on or rebooting your phone
