Hi guys.

Hearing about malicious apps that might take over the phone, control it to either make distance calls just to be annoying, the possibility of viruses on android and such have me a bit worried.

Is there any combination of Firewall, Antivirus and Android apps blacklisting for the market that will protect against malicious apps. Yes I know I should just pay close attention to what an app requests but sometime it´s a bit confusing and sometimes I forget.

Is there a Security suite out there for Android that´s trustworthy?

Kaspersky for Android would be epic but I doubt it, do you guys have any recommendations?

Kind Regards

There is a Security-Suite from F-Secure.

Have it on my Desire and works fine. Has AV + browsing-protection + anti-theft features (lock, wipe, locate, ...)

FREE IS BEST!

Try: https://www.mylookout.com/

Lookout is the easiest way to protect your phone from viruses, hackers, loss and theft. For Android, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile.

Seems great but it wants quite a bit of access your sure it´s not malicious in itself? one of the things I want protection against is apps on market that does stuff maliciously without the user knowing.

All to do with its backup and location finder service, and after all it does need full access to scan your phone for viruses, good reviews on market place for this app, I've used it for the past month without any problems so far, on-line web based control panel is quite useful, worth a trial run!

As it says anti virus and firewall - https://www.mylookout.com/features

working fine on my desire, no probs with location, just checked takes about 30 seconds to locate my phone - maybe your settings, think you have to first activate the features before they work

I activated, checked the online dashboard and everything, virus scanning seems alright but absolutely no evidence of a firewall in there, other than written on the site, no settings or things to activate within the app nor on the control panel on the website in regards to firewall.

yup - i saw that it said it has a firewall, but after installing on my desire, it just says "anti-virus" rather than "anti-virus & firewall" as in the picture. i did register and also log in to my account and set my phone number - nothing :)

not sure what setting you mean that could stop this? maybe it is something down to my mobile carrier?

So this is what all the FUD with wallpaper app was about.

As it turns out this "security researcher" push its own "security product" for android.

I'll stay away from those f***rs.

Settings are on web control panel, you need to add your mobile number and turn on locate, see what you mean about firewall, maybe a quick email to company to explain

Lookout here. This link http://mobile.venturebeat.com/2010/08/04/g...aper-apps-safe/ (and our blog post http://blog.mylookout.com/2010/07/mobile-a...ysis-blackhat/) provides the real details behind what Lookout espoused regarding the wallpaper app. We are security researchers and our goal is to keep developers educated and users safe from harmful (and potentially harmful) software.

We do provide a firewall but at present it's only included in the Windows Mobile version of our software. Our online documentation could be better at explaining that.
