Guest worley Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Maybe it's just my net connection, but update.zingstaging.com appears to be down now, maybe Dell noticed all the bandwidth or reads these forums? I do have a copy of the page as well as the pkg and the correct MIME-types for the pkg to install via the browser on one of my own webservers (it was too slow from the official site for me so used it to setup my mate's Streak too), I'm just not quite sure on the legality of it (they did release it on a public site with no copyright notices, so probably not an issue as I guess it's public domain now).

I'll wait until someone posts it in idiot proff line by line words!! Thank you for coming back so quick. Just go one page back in this thread and read my comments on how to update devices bought directly from Dell. You don't need to go to xda for that. Not sure if that was idiot proof but I reckon you need to know at least that much before flashing custom roms.

Guest pug11111 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 mine wont read the update pkg an clues as to how to do it
Guest Fawaad Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Give me some time as I'm away. I'll do a write up with more easy how to. Should I create a new thread or not, let me know.
Guest zwmg Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) It didn't work for me that way. With my Dell UK unlocked this way the Dell logo was the end of the line. It didn't boot, stucked there. What helped after doing steps 1-3, and hanging at step 4 is to download the original 21 Dell 4399 Firmware. I flashed it via Dell recovery. It booted. After that I replaced the Update.pkg 4399 (21) with the 2.1 build (21) on the SD. I flashed it via Dell recovery and then did a factory reset via Dell recovery. Then it booted. Original Dell 4399 (21) download: http://mobileupdate.dell.com/LatestBuild/S...104_4399_21.pkg The ROM is way faster than Dell's 4399. It so much more fun. I had no problems loging in or downloading apps. Everything seems to be fine. Only a little annoying that I have some english phraces in the german version but I can live with that. Unfortunately the screen key lock doesn't work anymore. You now have to slide the screen lock without using the central key. PS: One amazing new feature for Dell Streak: Charging while in airplane mode, at last... Edited June 6, 2011 by Paul
Guest vivanno Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Hello, stupid question. :D what is a 21 device ? And 00 and 31. :D Thanks
Guest zwmg Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 21 = o2 locked/branded 31 = unlocked (imo only UK) 00 = US device (maybe also european devices, I don't know) You see it when you go to the settings -> telefon info -> Baseband version (last 2 numbers) And a 21 ROM can't be flashed with a 31 device. So you have to do the steps above. Flash custom recovery, flash Modacos custom ROM (21) etc.

When I try to recover to 4399 (21) this ends with a "your system is updated" message. This means that the only things to do to update to 2.1 is to proceed copying and renaming the 2.1 pkg and via recovery launch the update? Thanks

Guest uberspeed Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 This is just what the thing needed. Multitouch was one thing I wanted across the board and this app delivers! I did a quick comparison of the multitouch compared to my Nexus One. Time to install some emulators for this thing. :D Awesome! What multitouch sensor is the Streak using? HTC now uses the Atmel mxt224 screen (Evo for example) vs. the old Synaptics 2000 which was in the Nexus One, hence the better multitouch performance. I would love for info like this to be readily available...
Guest nsaspooks Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 How to Manually Update Dell Streak to Android 2.1 eclair 1. Download the Android 2.1 .pkg file and rename it to Update.pkg 2. Transfer Update.pkg to the root directory of your microSD card. 3. Power off the device. 4. Now while holding the volume up or down buttons, turn the device back on. 5. You should now be in recovery mode. Select the second option. 6. Wait, then wait some more, and you’re done! Let the phone reboot and enjoy Android 2.1 on your new Dell Streak. If you have a different device, installing the modaco rom first will convert it to a 21 device.
