Guest courtlandre Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 its this kind of thread that really is putting me off cooking for the streak when we get the source... Just because some people are idiots doesn't mean others of us shouldnt enjoy the fruits of your hard work and diligence. Most of us appreciate the work you do, it's just the vocal minority that are dumb. Just don't answer their questions, everything people have asked is on the forums.
Guest Niner86 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Weird that it seems to work for the vast majority of us but for some that fail to take the time to read and understand the process it fails? It does work, this is a fact. It's your own fault for being impatient and regardless you know there is a slight risk when messing about with any of this stuff, noone to blame apart from yourself.

Guest stuliv12 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Mine did work with 2.1, however it went wrong and gets stuck after i flashed the custom recovery image.
Guest raidet Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) I got mine into a pretty crappy state yesterday, but managed to resurrect it by following these steps in exactly this order. 1. Perform a factory reset (hold volume buttons on startup and choose first item in menu) 2. Follow the steps "HOW TO RESTORE YOUR STREAK BACK TO FACTORY CONDITION:" listed here: http://android.modaco.com/content-page/312...tedly/page/20/# Make sure you redownload from the links in the post - don't use anything you've downloaded previously. You'll need these files too: fastboot-windows.exe --> http://www.mediafire.com/?ag56yra5j5h11pv recovery.stock.img --> http://www.mediafire.com/?dkylc992a288j4t 3. Perform another factory reset (hold volume buttons on startup and choose first item in menu) 4. Install the 2.1 pkg using the DELL restore tool (hold volume buttons on startup). Pkg file will need to be on the root of your SD card (you may need an external SD reader if your Streak is still bricked at this point) Redownload the 2.1 pkg here: http://www.mediafire.com/?bb9cvm5uaap2z8k You also need to rename the pkg file to "update.pkg" on the root of your SD before updating. NB - When updating to 2.1 you may get a frozen Dell logo or black screen. If this persists for 15 minutes, reboot the device and see if it just starts up normally - this happened to me. Try following these steps religiously, regardless of whether you've done some/all of these steps before and let us know how it goes. Edited August 14, 2010 by raidet
Guest marciu Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 I got mine into a pretty crappy state yesterday, but managed to resurrect it by following these steps in exactly this order. .... it doesnt work... for some reasons every time when you choose to upgrade software (option2) it doesnt do anything only black screen. the only way to upgrade software is via fastboot, but dont know how to extract img file from the update.pkg :/

I had to do them all in that exact order to unbrick mine. The img file you need is here: http://www.mediafire.com/?dkylc992a288j4t
Guest Uberfish Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) I am just waiting in the Q for an online chat with the expert, let me know what did O2 say. Contacted dell, they told me I need to contact O2 instead. Contacted O2, they told me they can repair it, but because I'm not the person who they gave it to under contract, they won't help me at all (even though I myself am an O2 contract customer). So now I have to contact the person who sold it to me and get him to raise an RMA request with O2 himself. So stupid. The handset also has two dead pixels too, so this is a good chance to repair it I guess. I got mine into a pretty crappy state yesterday, but managed to resurrect it by following these steps in exactly this order. Sadly, this doesn't work. It seems 2.1 did something to the way the phone recovers and even following your steps, when I have to select option 2 to recover from the Update.pkg it black screens then freezes. Also, If I attempt to install clockwork recovery, it says it's worked with no problem but when I load into recovery mode it's clearly just the old standard recovery image still. It's fubard. Do make sure you followed ALL steps IN THAT ORDER though before giving up. And also make sure you re-download the various files you need direct from the post - not using anything you already have, even if you're sure it's the same file.

Exactly that order and by downloading all the files mentioned. At the step where I have to update, the screen goes black and nothing further happens. What I'm going to do is leave the screen black, have a shower, eat some food, go to work, try rebooting it after I get to work and see if anything has changed.

Guest Dogmann55 Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) Hi all, Sorry this may not be obvious but throwing blame around at others isn't really helping them solve anything is it and whilst something may be logical and have worked for you maybe it's not working for everyone else even if they have followed all the steps in the right order to blindly assume it's user error in ever case is not right or fair. I had a problem with my Streak and posted asking for help and that was after i had tried all the fixes mentioned in the Forum and step by step missing nothing out I may be new to Android but not to smart phones or flashing custom Roms but when i reached a dead end i asked for help as had no other options left. Fortunately besides all the suggestions to try the fixes mentioned in the Forum which i had already tried and said i had tried one person came to my rescue after listening to what was not working and what was happening they kindly put a .bat file together for me and that worked first time straight away whilst everything else had failed. As much as i love my Streak the longer i have it and read of all these type of problems the more concerned i am becoming about the prospects of keeping it long term. Come on chaps, let's not take our shitty moods out on this board. They weren't particularly rude, just understandably frustrated. Help them out.
Guest Uberfish Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) And the update.pkg is renamed exactly that - "update.pkg", and it's on the root of your SD card, which is in the device? Actually, I've named it "Update.pkg" capital U (Good ole unix)... Should I be using lower case? (gonna try that now in fact). *EDIT* lower case u made no difference. What if I used a formatted SD card with nothing but the update file on, is that possible? Leaving the device on the black screen for 45 mins then removing the battery and rebooting didn't help :D I'll just add I'm very greatful for all the assistance provided so far... This forum is still more helpful than the manufacturers :D Edited August 14, 2010 by Uberfish

Guest Uberfish Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 Amusingly I can't connect to chat.freenode.net using mIRC either... what a week! haha edit... fixed :D So We've made progress. It seems that the 2.1 update has changed the partitions. I tested this by erasing the recover partition then attempting to boot into recover mode (volume buttons). recover mode still loaded meaning that the partition had not been erased! Either the partition names have changed or they are protected in some way to prevent flashing.
Guest zwmg Posted August 14, 2010 Report Posted August 14, 2010 I had the same problem and got it to boot with 2.1 using this users steps 1-3 and then the stuff I explained in this post. http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1376665 After flashing a new ROM I would factory reset first, don't know if it's necessary, it certainly shouldn't be a problem, as it takes seconds.
Guest stuliv12 Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 (edited) Any news today? i do have the nandroid backups i made from 1.6 but flashing boot and system it still sits at the dell logo screen. I even tried the default recovery image but that didnt work either. ive got the custom recovery image back by flashing this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754563 I then tried to flash zip drom 4399 build and again just stuck at Dell screen. we really need a stock 4399 img to load via fastboot. I try my nandroid backup image and it fails at DATADATA. Id only we had the RADIO FROM 2.1????? Edited August 15, 2010 by stuliv12
Guest craigdabbs Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 have you made any more progress uberfish? i have the same issue now blackscreen when selecting option 2 using stock recovery image. I can load clockworks recovery fine, install modaco R1 but it always gets stuck on dell logo. Im a bit stuck now it seems, i have followed the instructions on how to get back to factory condition thread too, but that black screen on option 2 is a real problem. Thank Craig

Guest marciu Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 EXACT SAME problem here. Ok Guys This is what you need to do: 1. Download those files first. http://hotfile.com/dl/61663686/7d7e528/Str...399_21.pkg.html <--- Stock Update http://www.mediafire.com/?bb9cvm5uaap2z8k <---- 6941 2.1 Update http://hotfile.com/dl/62324940/5dea6fd/recovery.rar.html <--- New recovery 2. Unpack recovery.rar, 3. Boot your streak in to fastboot (on/off button + camera) 4. execute stock.bat <- that should take care of everything 5. place 4399 update on your sd card, rename it to Update.pkg 6 reboot your phone (on/off + volume up+down) choose option 2 ( that should take few minutes ) 7 if you want to update do 2.1 follow steps 5 & 6 if any questions pm me :D
Guest craigdabbs Posted August 15, 2010 Report Posted August 15, 2010 me and ez44 have been on the IRc channel of modaco and adamg has been incredibly nice to try and sort our issues out. I have had success, adamg made some custom recovery images which got me past the pesky blank screen after selecting option 2. Many thanks adam
