Interesting. Found this in a previous transcript on pocket pc and smartphone development:

Host Guest_MichaelW_MS:

Q: Will the code signing in smartphone give a way for carriers to lock out apps not sold by them?

Host Guest_MichaelW_MS:

A: Let me ask you a question. Would you want your cool new game from JohnDoeGamer.com blocked from being downloaded on your SMPN? Do you think that would be a good user experience?

Host Guest_Ethancr_MS:

Q: Will the code signing in smartphone give a way for carriers to lock out apps not sold by them?

Host Guest_Ethancr_MS:

A: The carriers can theoretically revoke any applications they wish. of course, anti-competitive laws still apply...

...hmmmmm. Seems MS think it would be much better if the phone was not locked to non-Orange software.
