Restoring backups with ClockworkMod

OK, so I've got a bit of a problem.

I recently did a full wipe and partition, before flashing Modaco r8.

Of course I took a backup before I did this, using the ROM Manager app.

When it had finished, I realised that my most recent backup from Titanium was a couple of weeks old, so there were missing SMS that I wanted to get back.

No problem, I thought, I'll restore the full backup I did, then backup the SMS.

But when I tried to restore through ROM Manager, it started the process and always came up with an md5 mismatch error and wouldn't let me restore.

So my next bright idea was to extract the contents of the backup image with unyaffs and copy over the data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db

This worked, in that my messages were all now showing, but it has lost the contact pictures that showed next to the person, even though my contacts all have the correct image.

So, I have 2 solutions that I need help with. How do I :-

1) Get ClockworkMod to accept the backup I did, or

2) Restore the link between the sms database and the contacts pictures

I'm guessing 2) will be a different database somewhere.
