understanding rom differences

Hi guys and girls

im new to the forum and am new the smart phone scene

i love the work you people have done

i have just got a HTC Desire and im in love with it :D :D ;) the mises hates it cause i never put it down LOL

i had it 2 days before i rooted it with Paul's guide :D :D ;)

now what i would like to know

1. what is the differences between Froyo, Froyo sense and so on and so on

what is the best way of deciding what is best for me as they all have bits i like and dont like

2. i have been using rom manager pro to download and install them is there somewhere better to

download the from where there is more info on the roms and what thet do and do not have

3. any other tips and tricks and links that may help me get a footing

all i want is 2 main pages to stick apps and widgets on and sweet f all in the way of stuff in stalled with the rom

eg. no peep, new and weather and a few things like that

sorry if all this has been covered before but with out knowing what im searching for its hard to find the info i need

i settled on the Cyanogenmod-6 rom it has every thing i want apart from the FM radio

all i need now is to work out hoe to do a selective install of google apps

and i will be as happy as a pig in poo
