Here are the steps for you:

1. Make sure you have the ROM zip file on your SD Card in some folder other than root

2. Also make sure that you have clockwork mod recovery installed on the SD Card - this consists of the update.zip in your SD Card root + clockworkmod folder containing the recovery-update.zip and other stuff

3. Switch off the device

4. Switch on the device with the back button held

5. You should now see a screen saying FASTBOOT

6. Press the power button - this will take you to a screen saying HBOOT

7. Using the Volume Down button (this may take a few seconds since sometimes a few green lines scroll through the screen before this gets enabled) navigate to the Recovery Option

8. Now your phone should reboot and go to Recovery (Red Triangle)

9. Hold the Volume Up button and while holding down the Volume Up press the Power button. That should get you to a blue console

10. Choose Apply update.zip from SD Card. This will bring up a Green console (the ClockworkMod recovery)

11. Here, you can choose Install zip from SD Card

12. Select Select Zip from SD Card - select the ROM zip file from the SD Card

13. Select Yes - this should start flashing the ROM once more

Best of Luck.

Kiran

I know this isn't an overly helpful post but I installed R8 yesterday and used Goggles a couple of times today with no issues. As I said, not particularly useful but at least it shows it's not a universal problem.

I have no problem with Goggles and this ROM...

Has anyone else had issues with Gmail sync? Mails sometimes take hours to be pushed to my phone - sometimes I have to manually force a sync. Other times it seems OK.

Any tips?

I keep noticing in accounts menu that "sync is having a problem and will be back shortly". This could be an issue with the actual google service, not the phone as such....

Google Goggles always FC's with this ROM... It also did the same thing in R8.RC1... I've tried everything (even a wipe) and the result is allways the same.

Anybody experiencing the same thing? Or have any ideas?

Thanks!

I am having the same issue. I found out yesterday that installing 1.0 works for me, and I'll also add that although it then appears in your market as ready for an update to 1.1 (which will break it again), you can remove the Market link with TitaniumBackup:

Anybody getting a forced close on Google Goggles with this ROM? I am and it makes me sad.

EDIT: Found that this affects a huge number of people and may have been with me since I upgraded to stock Froyo in the first place. Resolved by using the apk from http://www.gadgetsdna.com/download-install...id-devices/583/ which is version 1.0 instead of 1.1 but works fine. Others have had success reinstalling, rebooting, turning history off and (bizarrely) disabling Wifi. Hope this helps anybody else having the issue.

My 3G works perfectly with R8. Could you check the following:

1. Is your APN correct? You may have put it in but a simple typo can be enough to mess things up.

2. Do you have Mobile Internet switched On? Press and hold the power button - this brings up a menu with options such as Power Off, Sound ON/OFF, Vibration ON/OFF, Mobile Network ON/OFF. Check if "Connect to Internet is ON"

3. Do you have stuff such as APNDroid installed? If yes, that could be causing problems - uninstall and then check

4. Do you have Quick Settings installed? This too has an option to disable APNs by renaming them. They too could be causing your troubles.

Hope these help.

Kiran

I'll make them first on the list for r9 WIP.

Great work Paul...

FYI, minor bug - or it could be me?

I have the Weather widget (the larger of the two) on one of my seven screens (I'm using R8 by the way)

After phone comes out of locked mode it doesn't update/refresh when I click on it. Just has blank unresponsive screen. Works fine when I remove it from screen and add it again - until phone gets locked again. It will update from home page when I tap it and I get update page up. I hope this makes sense. Looking forward to R9!

It's probably new radio... I've got the same behavior with 5.09.05.30_2.

Hello, I have installed last r8 and I discovered that htc messaging app does not sync images of my contacts. I receive sms from my contacts but cannot see the picture of them on messaging. It is strange because if I install choumsms it let me see the pictures. Any idea folks?

If you wipe, the problem will disappear. You need to setup your phone from scratch, and your contacts will be reloaded from your Google account. And their pics will show up in messages.

If you do not want to wipe, a previous poster suggested "clearing" your contacts and let them reload (sync) again from your Google account. I do not to what "clearing" means in this context. If it means deleting them all, I am too scared to do that though, coz I dont know how to do that without the phone syncing the deletes BACK to Google and erasing all your contacts there.

So what I do is go into my contact list, delete the contact pic, add it again, and voila it shows up in messages.

As I only message with a limited nr of my contacts, this was not much work.

i think there was a problem on your phone...install mod work good on paul´s rom...maybe try the one i attached or the version of spare parts i attached here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...amp;postcount=3

Also google sky install good....

Edit: i think you don´t have a ext3 partition...or it´s corrupt...maybe make a new one with rom manager from the market and than if you are in recovery make a full wipe and flash the rom

with kind regards..Alex

I flash it again after full wipe. everything goes well. I think there are something wrong with my EXT3 partition. It's not always stable. sometime I lose my program shortcut.

Do you have an EXT partition?

If not, either create one with Rom Manager, or if you don't want an EXT partition flash the non A2SD+ version of the ROM and use Froyo Apps2SD with ModInstallLocation.

You don't need ModInstallLocation if you use A2SD+ with an EXT partition.

when you install some software updated for Froyo you need to set the defaut install location, such as Google Sky Maps.

if you leave it Auto it will go to you FAT32 partition.

of course you could move it to your EXT partition(Phone internal memory).

if you set the install location = 1 it will go to your EXT partition (Phone internal memery).

Go to Settings/wireless networks/mobile network and untick the box

Yeah but that is a very long winded way of doing, when before I had a widget that would switch the APN off from my home screen.

Can anyone else help re turning the APN off please?

Thanks

I'm not that sure but when I sync with Appbrain, it shows there isn't any Adobe flash installed. Can Paul please check it out

Hey guys and Paul

I am in the US but I bought my HTC Desire from the UK(I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem but I thought I should mention it, also when I install the latest ROM, at the very beginning I choose English-United Kingdom).

Anyways, when I do a Google search for something, it always gives me UK results. I have it under settings/Google-use my location for search results but still it's giving me UK results.

Here is a screenshot below, I googled for Pizza Hut for example.

Also, I believe this other app that is causing me problems for a looong time has something to do with the same issue. I am attaching the pictures also for the Flixster-Movies app.

I live in Westlake, Ohio. You will see in the 1st flixster image that, it is showing me the movies that are opening this week but all of those movies have opened up way long time ago in the US. I searched movies.yahoo.co.uk and obviously it is showing me the stuff for the UK again. The only accurate thing is the Flixster image 2 which is the movie theaters by me. Image 3 is again showing results for the UK.

Anyone has any idea why this is happening.

I'd appreciate some help.

Thnx in advance,

Someone else (and I repeated the good tip), said to check Backup APN from the market for free.

This way you can easily restore your APN settings after flashing a Battery mod that F's them U.

Hi apologies if I missed this in the thread somewhere, but can anyone recommend a "circle battery" mod that works with this R8 ROM and doesn't screw up the APNs? Thanks

You kind of answered your own question. Choose English-US instead and see if that fixes it.

I don't think English-US was ever an option. I can try again but I looked really carefully and didn't see it. I will give it a go one more time.

Sorry my mistake, it is not in the list of languages on mine either so it must be another problem. I presume your google account is US registered? There's an option in Gmail on the web to change to English US, maybe try that or check google settings?
