Guest tinnef Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 I flashed r8 couple of weeks ago, and I am starting to see a couple of weird and annoying issues: - At some point the phone will not go into standby anymore, leaving the screen on all the time, which kills the battery of course - The phone is regularly starting to think it is in Hong Kong instead of Amsterdam Both problems are temporarily resolved after a reboot, but will pop-up again sooner or later. Any ideas about cause and/or solution?
Guest dtomkins Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Story moves on - I finally seemed to have installed the ROM, but it seems to be tripping over the old one - I'm getting lots of strange behaviour including it booting up what appears to be a completely different (old) image the second time I restart it. Outcome is I'd like to wipe down COMPLETELY and install the new ROM again to avoid this happening again. Can someone please help a confused newbie on how to do this? OK, I've been posting requests on here for a couple of days now, and no-one's responded - which is fair enough, its an open forum. However, having paid a subscription to allow use of the kitchen, did I mistakenly assume that I would get some level of support, or am I asking in the wrong forum. Should I be PMing someone? Please can someone help me out? <cynicaltopromptresponse>Or now you have my money are you happy to let me float around with a barely working phone?</cynicaltopromptresponse>
Guest rulerofkaos Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Is it possible to flash this ROM on a desire with SLCD screen? Are the right drivers included?
Guest choccy Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Can someone advise me as to what the latest Radio version is for this Rom please? I've had the Rom installed about 3 weeks now. Thanks
Guest Chronic404 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 this might be a stupid question, but can i delete the .zip file after installing the ROM? I wanted to free up some room and thought it might no longer be needed...

People will help if they can and have time. Installing unofficial software and rooting your phone has risks, that you must be willing to take. The paid subscription removes adds and gives you access to the online kitchens. Always make a working backup before you make any changes.

The point is I have made a back up, but restoring this back up does not appear to have cleared down, so at times I seem to have a "ghost" image that appears. I was hoping someone might be able to help me with the answer to the question how can I force a full clear down before restoring? I guess I'll go back to my blackberry until someone can help me with what I assumed would be a pretty simple question to answer given the depth of knowledge and experience of most of the regular posters.

I got this a couple of times, i added ROMs which i didn't like, and tried to restore via Nandroid, to no avail, best thing is to 1. reboot into the recovery, select Wipe Data/Factory reset 2. Format the SD Card into the partitions you require via recovery 3. apply the ROM you want, making sure to do a full wipe & Nandroid backup 4. Apply update.zip 5. Reboot, this may take up to 20 mins, so just leave it. 6. Once booted, reboot again to make sure the cache is cleared, then see what you have, if you have still got problems then i would be amazed!
Guest htcnick Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 hey just after a bit of help. I dont the upgrade for my desire but i had to preform a wipe because gmail and contacts where not working. I now have the phone all upgraded and set up and the apps where stored on the sd card so i still have them. One thing i noticed, if i go to the market and look at the downloads to check for updates it says i havent downloaded any apps. Is there a way i can fix this so i can get the updates. Also has anyone done the r9 upgrade? Is it working good. Cheers.

Guest dtomkins Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) A few thoughts / problems with the image - anyone had these and solved them? - Contacts - even when I select "Sort by First Name", it still sorts by what looks like the "Display as" option in my MS Exchange server (my contacts are synced from my work email outlook instance). - Another image I had once had two swipe options - one to unlock and one to switch between on/off - Notifications don't always appear for sms and / or email - Another image allowed different notification sounds for different messages and accounts (e.g. SMS, mail account 1, mail account 2, etc). Is this anywhere in the kitchen? One more - I could look up contacts on my ActiveSync account if not in my contacts on another image, but not on this one Thanks Edited September 15, 2010 by dtomkins
Guest Chronic404 Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Great news, glad you're up and running! Re the contacts, i have my last calls, in and outbound, and then my contacts in alphabetical I have all my contacts showing, and don't have exchange so it just syncs with my gmail, are you talking about in the "phone button" or "people app"? The different unlock/lock options are available by installing Lockbot, on the marketplace With regard to notifications, check your settings for syncs and updates, i have mine set to power saving options so they're not often, apps like Juice Defender can affect this too. And different notifications for each account is available, go into SMS app and choose notification, go into Email account and change notification, they will be different, don't change it in the general phone settings because this sets the default to the tone you select. Hope this helps
Guest wcymodaco Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 Paul, I just rebaked an R8 ROM to update Google Maps since I could not get it to install from market. Google Maps runs ok on the newly installed ROM. Now that I have the latest Google Maps 4.5.0 from your custom ROM, I am still having a problem downloading Street View for Google Maps. It downloads ok but then says install unsuccessful in the notification bar. When I search for Google Maps on market, there is a button asking me to install, which implies that Google Maps is not recognised as being already installed in my phone. When I click to install Google Maps, just like Street View, it says downloaded but the installation unsuccessful. No other error messages. I need to get this resolved in order to update Google Maps and related apps properly. Would it work if I rebaked another ROM without Google Maps and then install Google Maps from market. Or is it likely going to tell me install unsuccessful again? & I hope I do not have to wipe my entire phone just to get Google Maps properly updated because of some error in your custom ROM before this. This Google Maps problem is starting to get annoying. I have read the Google Maps problem threads on this forum and I am still confused as to what it is I am supposed to be doing to get it to update correctly. Please clear up this confusion for me. Thank you. Paul, some feedback on the google maps issue please. Are you planning on providing a fix so that google maps etc can be updated from the market or are you not going to bother with it. I need to know so that I can decide what to do with the rom on my phone right now. If you have no plans to do anything about it, please just state as such and I will probably wipe my phone and bake a new R8 rom without google map and spend time reinstalling my apps and data once and for all. I do not wish to have to bake a new rom and download 150MB of data just to reflash and update google maps everytime there is an update. Kindly respond to this message.

Guest agabaldoni Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 First of all, many thanks for your great work. Even though I am good with computers, I had absolutely no knowledge on Android phones until last week. I bought a Telstra branded phone which came from Australia to Peru which is where i live. It had been unlocked so I was able to use it with my local phone provider BUT it had all the bloatware that comes in brandedphones. I rooted my phone, cooked my own ROM, installed without wiping and it did not work. I was very afraid to loose the phone but I did what your instructions said, wiped the phone, cooked a second ROM and it worked great. Now I have a working phone without all the irrelevant stuff it had. Now, I have a couple of questions: 1) The original Telstra logo is still there. No big deal just curious why it was not wiped. I added the nexus one animation and that one kicks in right after the Telstra logo. 2) I added the A2SD+ option, formatted my second SD card (the first one is the rooting and modding one which is safely stored) with a Linux live CD to first have a 1024 Kb Ext3 partition and then the rest of it is Fat32. I've been succesful in sending only three apps to the SD card so far: Google Sky Map, Rom Manager and Titanium Backup. All the other apps I've installed do not have that option enabled. Is this due to the rest of the apps not capable of running from the SD card? Is it related to having a 1024KB Ext3 partition? (I read somewhere that the max size for the Ext3 partition should be 512 Kb and then somewhere else it said it could be around 1024Kb) or is it due to the Ext3 partition being created first and the Fat32 partition second? (or is it something else?). 3) I will buy a new SD card, 16 or 32Gb size (the biggest I can find). Can I create an Ext3 partition 50% of the size of the SD card and use it to install apps ther or is there really a size limit like I asked in my previous question? Many thanks for your time, This is one of those websites where it's really worth subscribing to support the great work done here! Augusto

Many thanks for your time, This is one of those websites where it's really worth subscribing to support the great work done here! Augusto Hello. First off, I am presuming that you actually mean your ext3 partition is 1024Mb (megabytes), not 1024Kb. 1024 Kb (kilobytes) is only 1Mb, which is gonna be enough to store like a couple of very small apps if you're lucky! It's more likely you made it 1024Mb, which is a Gigabyte. If not, you should do that part again and make it 512Mb or 1024Mb! Secondly, I don't know anything about ext3 size limits for A2SD, so I can't help you there, but I can explain some things. The official Froyo implementation of A2SD can move apps to the FAT32 portion of your card if they are coded to support it. That is what you are doing when you hit the "Move to SD Card" button, and that's why the button is greyed out for most apps. When you hit it, Google Sky Maps etc. were actually moved to the folder called android secure on your FAT32 partition. A2SD+, sometimes known as Legacy A2SD, works in a better way. It redirects all installed apps to the ext3 partition, however Android/your phone just sees them as being in internal memory. The ext3 just works as an extension of your internal memory. So, you don't have to manually move them to your SD card, they are installed there anyway. So, if you hit the Move to Internal Memory button Google Sky Map now, it will be moved from the FAT32 partition to the ext3 partition, although the phone will show it as in internal memory. If you want to check this, you can install Quick System Info from the market (but make sure you disable it's rubbish task killer notifications and things. This shows you free internal memory and free A2SD memory. You can install some apps and observe the A2SD memory going down. You might see internal memory drop a tiny bit also because some parts of apps just have to end up there, but not as much as normal. Hope this all helps. Edited September 16, 2010 by chipyy
Guest Stormgrass Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Sorry if that has cropped up somewhere before, but for the life of me, I couldn't find an answer. Well, here goes: Is it possible to use one of the circle battery mods with this release? Documentation for the circle battery mods usually say, that the ROM needs to be de-odexed, and according to the introductory text to this ROM, it is not de-odexed. So, has anyone managed to install the circle battery mod or any other icon modification that included the circle battery mod? Any input would be vastly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Guest wcymodaco Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 He did and it works Your signature says: GSM HTC Desire MoDaCo Custom ROM - R5 (FRF91) A2SD+ ClockworkMod I assume you are using R5 according to the above. If that is indeed the case and you are not using R8, how do you know it works?

If that's the fix you are reporting "works"
