It was a bug (I believe) in the original r8 version which was fixed. The current r8 ROM is fone So you'll have to reinstall it from the kitchen.

TO gregdt,

How do you know the current r8 ROM is fine when you are not even using it (unless my understanding that you are using R5 (as mentioned in my post above) is mistaken).

I have rebaked and reinstalled (without wiping) and I still cannot get google maps to be recognised as being installed by the market.

Now, before I go about WIPING my entire phone and reflashing R8 from scratch and then reinstalling apps and data 1 by 1, I want to know FOR SURE that the latest R8 ROM has google maps issue fixed so that maps and google search and all other dependent google apps can be updated from market.

I need to hear it from Paul himself that this has been fixed, or from someone who has wiped and reinstalled latest R8 and can confirm it works and can be updated from market.

TO Paul, do you even read these messages? Please respond.

You don't need to reinstall 1 by 1 all your apps. Install first Titanium Backup, do a full backup (apps+data), do a full wipe, flash again the rom and after do a full or partial restore with T.B.

Now i tried to erase the htclockscreen.apk using rootexplore in r/w mode but still after reboot the d..n thing is still there.

Are there any other options to get this thing of my Desire.

Using the r8 modaco with ap2sd.

I know how to use Titanium Backup thank you. There is a reason why I don't like to do batch restores but that is an entirely different issue altogether. In any case, a full restore as you suggested would certainly cause problems.

Please, instead of getting all types of reponses to my post that go on a tangent that do not actually answer my question, please can Paul or someone else who has actually done a full wipe and clean install of R8 ROM specifically answer my question: ie. whether google maps issue has been fixed in latest release. That is all I want to know. I have already asked this a few times.

And when I say fixed means being able to update from market, including google search i suppose.

Thank you.

this is a community forum, fixes are provided by the community. Why are you so insistent that Paul himself answers your question?

You might try being less flippant with your responses/posts if you want help

You ever tried? I do, and not once, and I had no problem.

You can run "Restore missing apps with data".

i've never had a problem with batch restore using titanium. I use it all the time between roms for both apps & system settings.

after flashing the r8 pre-baked version, I got some weird restarts and thought to re-do all the rooting for the phone, erase everything and start from scratch. I used the instructions from theunlockr as when I first rooted up the phone with Paul's r3. the problem is that I got some error on the way and now th OS doesnt boot up, recovery and bootloader menus are not accesible. the only thing that I see on the phone when powered up is HTC written in the middle and there are 4 triangles in the corners with the ! mark in them. if I plug out the pc cable I get to a menu similar to the bootloader one, but just with RUU as an option.

if I try to write a stock RUU (tried a few 2.1 and 2.2 ones) there is a green progress bar on the phone's screen that turns red for a second and then back green. it turns red when the radio is being written, and at the end I get an error 110 saying that the RUU file is incomplete or not correct. I do all this having a goldcard inside.

after the error the hboot version on the phone changes as per the RUU that I try to flash and goes above 0.80xx and comes back down as well. but the radio and the firmware doesnt change.

I think I saw that the r8 from Paul has the 5.10xx radio version included and maybe I need to flash a RUU with this radio version included, so that I dont try to run an "older" RUU to it?

any clue on what is the problem?

thanks a ton guys and looking forward to your help as right now I have a brick.

Hi all,

Probably been asked before but there's no "search this thread". Anyone got any idea how to get maps working with this rom? I include it with the kitchen but it doesn't show up. If I try to install from market its gives an error 8.

thanks

tried that already with several RUUs (2.1 and 2.2) but I get error 110 and the progress bar turns red when writing the radio...

adb is not working as the device is not listed and I have only fastboot in cmd, no recovery or bootloader menus...

I don't know if this had been post before. This rom has a performance update via OTA. What would happen if I allow the update, will it going to unroot my Desire?

Thanks

i just installed it and it reboots forever...

Maybe because you didn't made a full wipe before flash it.

I have R8 with A2SD+. I would like to take a backup before trying R9 and I have couple of questions:

1. Do I need a wipe before flashing R9?

2. What's the best nandroid backup option?

- ROM+ext (I have Amon RA)

- or ROM+titanium (apps+system settings)

3. What's the average size of a nandroid backup with R8?

Thank you.
