Guest el.mariachi Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 I am experiencing some problems after upgrading from r3.1 to r8 ROM with default MoDaCo additions and A2SD+ After upgrade all contacts and calendar events are missing. The "Contacts" app (com.android.htccontacts) crashes a few seconds after starting. (see below) "Voice search" also crashes on startup. I guess there might be some problem with the google account. In "Accounts & sync -> Manage accounts", the google account is missing. Even when trying to re-add it using "Add account", there is no "Google" account type available. (Look at the "GoogleSettingsProvider not found" errors in the second traceback.) I did wipe the dalvik cache before applying the update. I tried to "Clear data" and "Clear cache" of Contacts Storage Dialer Dialer Storage People (appears 2 Times with different icons) People Widget ... but that also didn't help. Please help me to further debug the problem! Guest tommo123 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Hi, I was using R7, got all excited about upgraing to r8 and bought a 16gb microsd. My previous was partitioned for apps2sd from my hero days, so everything worked nicely with that sd. I'm now stuck. How on earth do I partition my sd with the desire? I've tried for hours now and can't work out what the hell to do. I don't appear to be able to move any of the apps using froyo's own implementation either... I'm using windows 7 x64, which doesn't appear to simplify the operation..... HEEEEEEELLLLLPPPPP! please  get rom manager. there's an option in there. it's what i did for apps2sd

Guest tommo123 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 alrighty modacodians, any way to get setcpu to overclock on this rom? i presume it needs a kernel that allows it?
Guest zombiefly Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) get rom manager. there's an option in there. it's what i did for apps2sd OMG how stupid am I. I already use rom manager, just forgot it did that! thanks! :D  :( ;) :D Edited August 24, 2010 by zombiefly
Guest Scutworker Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 One question I have about this rom, and all roms in fact is this; with superuser baked in, how is it possible to update it from the market now that it is available from there? When a new version is out, can you update it this way, or do you need remove it using adb first?
Guest lambrospower Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 you need to remove it...or do like i did....move it to /data/app and then you will be able to uninstall it like a regular app and update through market
Guest Elemetrix Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Not had any trouble with the Google apps as some have posted but: *Seeing the htc splash screen frequently and Sense restarting itself* *Camcorder has crashed a couple of times and the 720p recording is awful. Espressobar mod would be a nice addition to the kitchen as I don't think I could go back to the default one now  *as if it was watching me it just did it again when I closed the message app!

Did you include the radio? Did you wipe?
Guest Elemetrix Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Did you include the radio? Did you wipe? Yup and yup. Camera didn't work at all before I updated Radio the first time I tried a new ROM. (other 2.2 ROM had none of these issues but it was based on leaked Froyo so I dropped it)
Guest Joran H Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Just installed the prebake after a lot of issues... now I'm just fighting through the titanium backup restore prompts stuff... Thought I'd point out one of the problem points I kept hitting. On flash of this ROM, I got stuck at the white HTC screen (without modaco branding) and so attempted a nandroid restore which didn't fix it! So, after lots of trial and error, I connected the phone to a linux box and ran mke2fs on the ext partition. After that, not a problem. I did attempt to format the sd-ext from clockwork mod many many times, but it didn't fix the boot hang. I expect that this is a bug in clockwork but mke2fs /dev/sdxn (b3 in my case) did work wonderfully for me. Now I can play!
Guest xTc is loVe Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Hey dont know if its your or my fault but i downloadet the latest ROM from kitchen and added some things like Interactive/Powersave sheduler and other small things i always add before i flash your ROM....but ClockWordMod Recovery cant open the update package it says r8..........unsignedetc.zip (bad) so i extracted all the files and put it into a new zip ( not signed after ) and now this ZIP is bigger and i am able to flash it. Maybe it was because i ZipModded it but it was unsigned before. Maybe u have a look at this if u understand me ;D
Guest tommo123 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 i've had a look at the defrost roms 'defrost setup' and am wondering if there's a way of doing something similar with Pauls roms? instead of having to update the rom by essentially baking a new one each time, we could have an app to do it like defrost does? would be a great way to be able to choose mods (battery, espresso, boot anims? etc) how about it Paul, any way of that happening, or is it asking too much?

U can visit this Website with One Click so is like an App ;-) An OTA Updater like Cyanogen has should be nice =)
Guest venturerider Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 There's a small bug in the kitchen: QuickOffice is actually installed to the /system directory, not /data. Which I prefer by the way ;-)
Guest Joran H Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Okay, well I personally don't recommend anyone uses Titanium Backup and restores old settings to this rom, as I right royally killed my phone doing this. Rosie went into a FC loop, so I went into recovery and wiped, and just for good measure used my linux box to format the ext partition to ext2 as well, then rebooted and the phone boot-looped the modaco boot screen  Reflashing didn't fix it, and neither did attempting the usb unbrick. So now I'm trying a fresh fat partition on the sd card too (minus the zip files that are needed of course) but if that doesn't work either, I'm screwed ;) The modaco-branded boot screen appears for about 8 seconds, goes black and then re-appears, on an endless loop :( EDIT: And formatting the fat side didn't fix it either :D Totally bricked phone just from using Titanium Backup's restore. Guest tommo123 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) ps, note to those that are curious, the espresso mod/ espresso bar work fine  --- edit downside is, i lost the classic lock screen ;) Edited August 24, 2010 by tommo123
Guest Liney_2000 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) I used prebake and didn't wipe as Paul wrote it is not necessary to wipe. Apart of Google services everything works OK. And Google maps were missing Having same problem, not sure why? Google maps, mail, market and so on not working. UPDATE TO THIS: I baked another to be sure I did not miss anything, used ROM manager (as before) however, this time I cleared the data and cache before doing the upgrade...success second time around. Hope this helps, Liney Edited August 25, 2010 by Liney_2000
Guest tommo123 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) trying some of those now but so far at least my market and appbrain works fine. i did a full wipe though since i had a gander at defrost on the way to r9 -- edit yep, google maps works too ?? news and calendar also works. and so does mail. maybe a wipe is needed? I've found it's better not just to do all your settings en masse and just selectively restore app data and some system data that you know is going to work ok. As far as home screen layout and stuff goes you may as well just re-do them. Have you tried just restoring your nandroid backup from before you flashed R8? Edited August 25, 2010 by chipyy
Guest meilechl Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 If you still have one of the pre Sense Froyo Leaked Radio's before 31.xx or 32.xx on your device. You won't be able to use camera. And there's been reports of the latest radio giving somewhat better 720 video recording. Also radio's get better and smarter at connecting to Cells and eventually use less Battery in the end. (or switch Cells faster, get better reception etc etc) Thanks, but could you please explain why 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 radio image is optional on the latest MoDaco ROM - i.e. if it's the latest radio image why would anyone not want to install it, and would his fears be founded?
