De-branding same as flashing rom??

Hi guys, just bought a i8000 and was wondering how to get rid of my carrier branding & software. This is my first samsung and with all my previous nokias, all you do is change the product code and update the firmware via the nokia pc suite.

Is there a similar process for the i8000?
