Guest johnkoone Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Well reading through the forum, I am astounded that anyone would think the O2 is a good phone, and try and compare it to Android , iPhone etc. I came from a Nokia N95 which was a good phone in it's time. I thought I would upgrade to Windows Mobile and see what that was like. Boy what a mistake. Sluggish, crashes, memory problems, bad music player, fuzzy camera, gps issues, slow, slow slow.... And like the rest of you I tried upgrading roms, software, tweaks etc. But it made little difference. I found I was constantly fixing things just to make the things work properly. Not such a bad thing for me as I am an IT person so it I found it a fun challenge. Interestingly I had deluded myself that it was a good phone and kept telling my friends how good it was. Then 3 weeks ago I bought an iPhone 4. Now I hated Apple like the rest of you so I'm not one of those fanboys. In fact I prefer Windows 7 instead of Apple OS. But the difference between and iPhone 4 and the O2 can be measured in light years. EVERYTHING JUST WORKS. No hassles, no tweaking, millions of applications to choose from. Full HD 3D games, blisteringly fast internet, fast gps lock, superb music and video playback, fast HD video recording. And the screen resolution makes every other phone look blocky. The biggest problem with the O2 is the memory. It's adverstised as 256mb ram yet most of it already assigned ! I think we all need to get together as a class action and sue Samsung for false advertising. If it actually had 256mb of available ram then it might work properly. Imagine trying to run Windows XP on your desktop PC and only having 50mb of ram to play with! Of course it's going to be sluggish - if it works at all. That's what is happening on the O2.
Guest Echo30 Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Yeah if I could afford it I'd be holding an Android device in my hands. Good points all 'round here. My wife's got an iPhone and even though I find their interface boring, I'm jealous of it.
Guest Terry666 Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 You come from Nokia to WM... I hope you DON'T compare the 2 phones... You are from IT background... But you DIDN'T go back to your seller to return a FAULTY device as the one you have/had... You HATE Apple AND Apple OS... But you bought an iPhone 4... You know about phones and you COMPARE Apples with Oranges (Pan intended) 2009/2010 technology 2nd/4th generation... I think you choose wrong place to ADVERTISE iPhone 4 "fanboy"... Have you tried multitasking in your new toy? EVEN Mr Job's definition of it... I run 2 and 3 and sometimes 4 (FOUR) applications in my CRAPPY O2 I have COMPARE my CRAPPY O2 sound with iTouch and other mp3 players only 2 was in par or better that my CRAPPY O2 the one WASN'T the iTouch... You think you are LUCKY because with your 4th gen. iPhone you DON'T have to BUY a program to send SMS or MMS? How many FREE programs you can find for your new toy? I have a lot for my CRAPPY O2... I can refer to SOOOO many problems the iPhone users DON'T LIKE to think about it and particularly with the 3 previews generations of iPhones. I DON'T hate anybody as all this multibillion giants like Apple, Microsoft, Samsung and the rest they care for their PROFITS and ONLY... Don't try to justify your choices by blaming others... You like iPhone 4? Good on you, I like O2 well?
Guest AdamAsater Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Well when your buying an apple phone everything is there for you..its a closed system, unless you jailbreak it. With winmo you can do whatever you want to customize it to your liking..to customize an iphone ot ipod you need to jailbreak it.. Theres alot of ways you can tweek winmo to make it just as fast, if not faster then an iphone..I know for a fact by comparing my buddys iphone to my omnia 2 , my o2's internet speeds is much faster..it renders alot faster. Both phones have their ups and downs. Whether its iphone vs winmo vs android, every platform has its ups and downs. I prefer windows mobile the most because it does what i need it to do..for me i find it fast after flashing roms. Oh and 1 more thing , I can make calls on my O2  Edited August 28, 2010 by AdamAsater

Guest kahn101 Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 first it isn't right to compare a phone that came out mid last year to one that came out in june this year, but even then there are CLEAR reasons as to why i would prefer my O2 to the iphone 4. -i can make calls, this is extremely essential. -i can play more media files, mkv, flv..etc. i don't need itunes to add media, my bluetooth connects with any other device. i can stream media without installing programs. remote desktop which i actually use comes with the phone, am certain i would have to buy an app for this for the iphone. there is networking, copy, send files over wifi. these functions come in handy almost each day, plus they are all free. work without a glitch. am sure u know this. -am in control of my phone. the phone is fun. i was using the hd2 leo2 fusion rom though i have just removed it. that animated weather sure was beautiful. still wondering what to use as my today screen, samsung today? or windows default? or touchwiz 2.0? am not stuck with icons which i have to flick left or right then open an app. can it possibly get any more boring than that? -i can use my phone as a usb, i think i use this function every other day. thats 16gb straight out of the box. -i keep an extra battery within reach. -u have heard of swype? i could go on, but am sure i have made my point clear. the iphone 4 is a beautiful phone, so is its display. i would definately jump at it if it was a winmo phone. but do not be so quick to rubbish the O2. out of the box it is problematic bt u can make it work exactly as u want it to. thats why modaco is here. RAM is no longer an issue after that chainfire patch. there is no lag, we have all used pcs that lag so we understand lag, i donot experience it. and i use the official rom.

Guest johnkoone Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 what web browser do you use? The picture for the test was using the default Opera browser. But I've also used Internet Explorer, Iris, Opera 10 and uZardWeb. uZardWeb was the fastest because it's server based - but I'm reluctant to send personal or financial details through a third party. The rest of the browsers had similar performance. There would always be a period of inactivity for a couple of minutes for no apparent reason. And very slow speeds as per the picture.
Guest urphonesux Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 have u tried the opera: config menu? do a google it should help with both operas

Do you really experienced the same speed with opera 9 and opera 10?!!!! Wow! I'm lucky because in my experience Opera 10 is largely faster. Which sw you used to measure speed?
Guest Leeds Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) Yes Omnia II has RAM issues, it is slow sometimes, it is far from perfect.. but, seriously? johnkoone you've got to be kidding right? I don't know if you are blind or got brainwashed like everyone else who owns an apple product 1. Comparing Omnia II with iPhone4 is like comparing Playstation2 with Playstation3, they are from different generations.. I won't even talk about price cuz you can buy a house for the price of iPhone4 and I bet it will come with a phone that won't need a silicon cover to make calls you know.. 2. Anyway, if you want to compare that thing you have with a phone.. compare it to Samsung Galaxy S and start crying.. 3. Opera 9 was slower for sure, Opera 10 is in the same league in my opinion, now.. uZardWeb is faster than Safari for sure. 4. You CAN'T use that ozspeedtest as comparisson, it fully depends on browser capability of loading pictures and not the connection speed itself About the images you posted.. 3G wise both iPhone 3GS and Omnia II have the same 3G connection speed, they both use 3G @ maximum HSDPA 7.2 Mbps ...uZardWeb was the fastest because it's server based... Wrong, Opera can also be a 'server based' browser using Opera Turbo option on settings for example Sure 'server based' browsers usually load pages a little bit faster but uZardWeb browser is really fast because of its engine, wich is WebKit, also used on Safari.. I am too lazy to keep going.. Bottom line.. Go build a house for your barbie-phone and spare us from your lack of knowledge about anything, bye Edited August 31, 2010 by Leeds

Go build a house for your barbie-phone and spare us from your lack of knowledge about anything, bye So you agree with me about the ram issues and then insult me with childish comments? All I know is I went from a useless phone to one that works. The fact that it is an iphone makes no difference. I could have bought a Droid and my comments would have been the same. Wake up man. The i8000 is useless. Don't get angry at me for pointing out the obvious. I'm angry at being ripped off by Samsung with the advertised 256mb memory.
Guest darkworldzz Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 i8000= resistive AMOLED iphone4= capacitive retina resistive AMOLED> capacitive retina i8000>iphone 4 nuff said the ram issue has been studied by many other users and many have tried to email Samsung regarding this issue and Samsung seems to be avoiding this issue and giving stupid excuses like it is used for stock programs, background programs whatever stuff they can come up with.. So NEVER blame WinMo NOR blame the phone. the specs are good hardware. BLAME Samsung for making poor drivers, poor ui, ram scamming etc the only thing that is good or worth using will be the touch player that came with the device.

Samsung have got away with murder on this. I bought the i8000 based on the hardware, only to find that I had wasted my money and had to buy another phone.
