Guest HAL_9000 Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) I have problem with very weak GPS signal. I'm using iGO 8.3.2 and iGO Primo. Previously used Tom Tom 7 but signal wasn't also strong. Generally a see only four or six satellites(if sky is clear). And signal often lost. For example If I ride in bigger city or in forest. Xtra data only helps to faster fixing. I tried change Phone part of ROM, frequency and others things but no luck. Is there any way to improve GPS signal? There is my configuration. PDA: JF5 CSC: JD9 PHONE: JD1 EBOOT: JF5 Frequency: 57600 Program port: COM7 HW port: COM 9 Thanks for reply. Edited August 28, 2010 by HAL_9000
Guest dextro_ Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Try to use 9600 Baud Rate. You can also update your XTRA data. I'm using Ndrive and it's ok. the first fix takes about 3min the other about 15seconds Edited August 28, 2010 by dextro_

It seems, that JF5 have already 6.5 GPS fix. Best for me rom for gps is I8000NXXJF5.I already have JF5 PDA. But I can also try JF1 Phone. Anyway, thanks. And last question: Is it possible to flash only Phone part?? And if yes, I lose my data in device memory or not? Thanks for reply. Edited August 29, 2010 by HAL_9000

Guest asus535 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 it is possible and easy to flash only radio-rom. I just checked preserve memory option to ensure no data loss, and flashed radio-rom. And last question: Is it possible to flash only Phone part?? And if yes, I lose my data in device memory or not? Thanks for reply.
Guest rrr2 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 As I compared between i8000 and Mio P550 (sirf3 chipset) GPS P550 is more accurate, satellite signal strength is higher and lock time is shorter. Developers here are trying to do miracles in improving GPS in i8000. Unfortunately the blanket is too short and solving accuracy creates long lock time and vice versa. I think i8000 has a relatively poor Qualcomm GPS chip and antenna. No firmware or registry/driver modifications can solve that Sorry Samsung. Until proven otherwise, this GPS is a lemon. Maybe for next time: 1. Better GPS chip 2. Better built-in antenna 3. At least an external gps antenna connector
Guest asus535 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 I agree. But I think i8000 have broadcom chip. Even, Samsung Galaxy S (i9000), have poorer gps reception, than i8000. Samsung made a bad choice about gps chip. I wish, it was sirf or mtk, dedicated only for gps. Broadcom chip, also makes bluetooth and fm radio communication. Guest HAL_9000 Posted August 29, 2010 Report Posted August 29, 2010 (edited) 1sokel : Thanks, I will try. I agree. But I think i8000 have broadcom chip. However I must agree, Samsung have very cheap GPS microchips.... And what about PHONE versions...? Is there any witch has the best signal quality? I will try JF5 and post my experiences... Samsung made a bad choice about gps chip. I wish, it was sirf or mtk, dedicated only for gps. Broadcom chip, also makes bluetooth and fm radio communication. AFAIK the i8000 has Qualcomm MSM6290 which is a bad choice to start with. BTW, Changing to JG5 (F1 phone) did not solve the GPS problem. This will lock relatively quick but unaccurate, and loses signal randomly. Fixes posted here and there did not change much. Add to it VERY poor camera pictures quality and I get very disappointed from Samsung. We paid good money for an A class machine and got ourselves a Lemon!
Guest PeterPan0815 Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) yes my asus P535 have the sirf3 chip and have no problem with the gps. oldi but goldi :P the registry patches on Omnia2 dosnt work by me sometimes i become a freeze ... i will dry the "GpsModDriver_320.CAB " and i hope the lags with gps go away. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571266 Edited September 5, 2010 by PeterPan0815
