Guest inigoml Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 no - for me it didn't work without wipe data, got from the market this "Google Maps has not been installed. Unkown error -8. " after it had downloaded and began to install I had the same problem. NO WIPE IS NEEDED. Solution (from another thread) - Reboot in recovery mode. - Vía ADB: * adb shell * mount /system * rm /system/app/Maps.apk - Reboot (in normal mode). Enable USB debug if not enabled in your settings - Extract Maps.apk from a MCR R8 (/system/app/Maps.apk) - Via ADB: * adb install Maps.apk - Remove Google Maps via Settings->Applications or via Astro, etc. - Install Google Maps via Market

Guest masi0 Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Paul: is it possible to put stock Adnroid Dialer/Phone.apk to fully coexist with stock lockscreen? Stock lockscreen with HTC Dialer forces HTC type of unlock to answer the phone anyway :P
Guest AlGaTTaS Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 It works without trackball wake I believe, looking into this also. P also not working without trackball wake :P
Guest lnoormohamed Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 paul does the Custom governor settings actually save you battery? also if i want to restore my settings for example, if i want to go back to normal cpu setting on stock to i flash with out Custom governor settings and check desible pref lock?
Guest Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Does anyone else missing the friendstream widget running on r9??
Guest wvn Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 I have the same experience. And yes, I always wipe before flashing. AND do a reboot. I get around 87mb after the first reboot with modaco roms, thats with widgets and live wallpaper, teeter left out. But with a stock rooted rom with nothing left out I get around 140 ish after first reboot. ROm manager, titanium backup and wavescure are missing but even after adding them I have 130+ for reference, this is the one im comparing it to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997

Guest woti17 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I have the same experience. And yes, I always wipe before flashing. AND do a reboot. and if you always wipe - you always restore full titanium backup? including the not installed apps? you can check what eats your internal storage most in a terminal or adb shell with cd /data find -size +100k -exec ls -ldh {} \; (\; is required no smiley, replace +200k with a value that suits you, valid is k,M,G for kilo or Mega or Giga, +1M = size higher than 1M, -100k = size lower than 100k)
Guest towo Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 So, after trying to find out why Bluetooth seems a bit crappy on modaco, I had a little dip in the etc/bluetooth dirs... and the modaco files are positively garbled. I'm not _quite_ sure this isn't some kind of compressed format, but when comparing it to the Cyanogen directory contents, I'd say that it shouldn't just be random data. FTR: [2:18] towo@odin:~/Downloads $ file modaco-r8/system/etc/bluetooth/* modaco-r8/system/etc/bluetooth/auto_pairing.conf: data modaco-r8/system/etc/bluetooth/blacklist.conf: ASCII C++ program text modaco-r8/system/etc/bluetooth/main.conf: data [2:18] towo@odin:~/Downloads $ file cm6/system/etc/bluetooth/* cm6/system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf: ASCII English text cm6/system/etc/bluetooth/auto_pairing.conf: ASCII C++ program text cm6/system/etc/bluetooth/blacklist.conf: ASCII C++ program text cm6/system/etc/bluetooth/input.conf: ASCII English text cm6/system/etc/bluetooth/main.conf: ASCII English text [/codebox] Case worth looking at? [Else I'll just throw in CM config files tomorrow and watch for magic smoke.]
Guest Stelard Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Is the new Maps the Brut version?
Guest Diggedy Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 if your worried about phone mem get a2sd+ this isnt an option for many due to the bugs with a2sd
Guest Paul.. Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 not sure this is exactly the right thread, but please bear with me: is there a way to install the fix for the multiple Gmail sync bug only over the top of an R8 ROM (has anyone delved into what was changed?) or is it necessary for it to be baked into this R9 version and therefore to flash an entirely updated ROM? (for info on the issue and a bunch of feedback suggesting the issue has been fixed, see: http://www.google.vu/support/forum/p/Googl...&start=160) Thanks in advance for any help (R8 v stable for me right now, great battery life etc. so if it's possible would be great to implement a simple fix/mod rather than going for another ROM version :-) )

Paul will integrate soon. Anyway, this bug is quite strange. My secondary account didn't sync for weeks. And after clearing Gmail data and resyncing several times (from Settings->Accounts->My account) it suddenly worked (and I cross my fingers). In the past I followed the same procedure and NEVER worked... Of course, I suspect it could be a Google bug with Gmail 2.2.1...
Guest smilys Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Is it possible to have the green smilys in the sms app replased with yellow smilys, like in PAYS roms?

Now it's working fine...
Guest Gizmos Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I cant replay on mail with this new Gmail over network, but it works over wifi.

I was hoping it was a Google server-side issue too (and had tried the same fixes as yourself without joy). From the responses on Google's forums it seems that certainly for some people a fix came with installing 2.10 client side. Could be a strange combo of factors for _some_ people and not all. I'll wait for the official Paul version here then :-)
Guest Yepayepa Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Hello everyone, I'm currently running the R9, installed on top of R8 without wipe, it's working great. But.... It's seems the RIL update doesn't work well. I mean, with the R8, I tried the RIL update (using the 5.10.05.23) and experienced a huge problem: using APNdroid or extended control to turn off my 3G connection, i wasn't able to reconnect after the first disconnection. Connection works only once, if you force disconnection, it will not work until to reboot the phone, or switch 2G->3G or vice-versa (coz it disconnect and reconnect to the cell). The only "fix" for R8 was to revert to previous RIL, but in R9 I don't have the original RIL files (maybe I can get those files from the R8 zip file). So, I'm not sure if this RIL update doesn't introduce more problems than fixes. Cheers.
Guest mugor Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Does anyone else missing the friendstream widget running on r9?? Nope, mine is working properly.
Guest mugor Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I had a rock solid r8 + new radio + ril + sub501 governor package. Am rolling back to that for next couple of weeks as I need a stable device while on the road. On r9 installed after a wipe, (with only old r8 goodies and sub501 governor settings turned on), I've had intermittent freezes and reboots. Not using any of the other goodies in r9 like CIFS or undervolting, etc. (this is even before I restored any apps via titanium backup). I did have pretty much all the google apps and htc that are compatible checked, but no different than I did in r8. Also found that I was getting out of space messages on installing from market, even though I should have tons of space. Lastly, when I installed any of the theme packages (battery %age mods, carbon espresso mod, etc.) I found I was losing the data connection on the radio (wifi kept working fine). Could they be overriding the ril somehow because some of them did include a new rosie/sense ? I suspect there's something in the base r9 package that is unstable. Will try r9 again in a couple of weeks and keep trying to find a pattern so my bug reports are more useful and lead to resolution. Shiva I have been having the same problems too. r8 + new radio + ril + sub501 governor package was stable. With r9 + new radio + ril + sub501 governor package + undervolt I suffered from laggy performance and random reboots.
Guest woti17 Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) Case worth looking at? [Else I'll just throw in CM config files tomorrow and watch for magic smoke.] you are right, this changed it were 5 textfiles in r6, and got corrupt in r7 (2 files disappearing at all) Edited September 13, 2010 by woti17

With r9 + new radio + ril + sub501 governor package + undervolt I suffered from laggy performance and random reboots. +1 No random reboots but getting random FCs and more noticeable lag with the additional governor settings. Stock Phone/Contacts search still not functional :P Edited September 13, 2010 by TheScrub
Guest Von Ropen Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Helloo, I am unable to receive mms with this rom even if I have configured correctly apns.... :-(
Guest atconc Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 Is there any fix for the control characters messing up the ADB output on a windows command prompt? I get (what I assume are) colour codes at the start and end of each line of ADB output at the moment and it makes working with ADB on windows a bit of a pain.
