I just got a system update notification from HTC on my Desire running r8. I didn't know you could get OTA updates with custom ROMs. Anybody knows what's in it? Here's the description:

- Update: Android OS update patch

- Enhanced multi inbox Gmail

- Improved RUS keyboard layout

25.06 MB

Working with that now!

  • A2SD corruption fix (courtesy of XDA thread)

Kitchen build filenames are now prefixed with 'ddmmyy-hhmm-'.

Bear in mind they are stamped with the SERVER time, not your local time!

Hi Paul,

I just baked a rom before you made the 2 updates to the kitchen.

I ticked the box to disable perflock and the file system/lib/modules/perflock_disable3215.ko was present however system/etc/init.d/97perflock was not.

I did not tick the "Custom governor settings" since I wanted to try going back to using SetCPU.

Hi Paul.

It's quite better use ISO format. No discussions about if day comes before month or month before day.

And, of course, date sorting is automatic (YYYYMMDD-HHMM)

Thank you!

Hi,

Please dont get me wrong, I want a subjective answer.

Why r9 is slower (Linpack, quadrant) than OpenDesire?

ist it the kernel, sense, ?

I am using the same radio for both (the latest)

Thanks in advance.

OK, sorry for repost, but am I the only one who have a pretty laggy Sense-UI? Scrolling is not smooth at all sometimes. I'm talking about HTCLockscreen, HTC Peep, Mail etc..

My phone scored 1200+ on quadrant...seems like somethings wrong...or?

Edit: Spell check =)

OpenDesire is Vanilla/AOSP isn't it? I think those ROMs are generally a bit faster than Sense ROMS because Sense slows things down a bit. I'm trialling CM6 at the moment and everything generally feels a lot snappier than it does on Sense ROMs.

Thanks for response. I am after performance and stability. I dont care if it has sense or not what ROM should I use. BTW, OpenDesire is not stable at the moment

That's sweet!

Coming up.

Have been running/adding it to my R9 Bake without issues so far.

Well, I have a few Desire HD / Z ROMs, so i'm investigating atm. :)

Woot!

@Paul is there more planned for today?

(If so i will hold on rebaking just yet)

I wouldn't really worry about it that much. Linpack and Quadrant are just artificial benchmarks, they don't mean that much, people get too hung up on them. Choose a ROM you like with an interface and features you like. All the top ones are much the same as far as performance goes. MCR R8 is very stable and fast if you ask me. I'm currently running Cyanogen Mod 6, also seems very stable and fast although I've only been using it a couple of days.

You sure Opendesire is unstable? Did you do all the proper wipes before flashing?

No, i'm running my optimisation scripts against the new version I have of the Ace ROM atm... they take a LONG time.

I dont want to turn this to OD thread, but many are complaining about "black death" and unexpected reboots. Battery is good, going like 1% down every 2.5 hours wifi is on BT off.

Thanks

I came here just now to check if you were doing this... and there it is. Hope it works. HTC are sounding very fuzzy about whether the older models are going to get this upgrade.

I love the way HTC and the rest keep talking about how difficult it is to offer upgrades to their phones, when here we have one guy putting out upgrades for a range of phones from several manufacturers. They'll probably send you a C&D letter eventually, just for making them look bad.

@Paul, is the preInstall.opml needed for something specific?

Looks like it has info for the News and Weather, but i always deselect this option.

@Paul,

I think Bruts' Google Map is coming out bruts17 on this weekend

If the kitchen could include optional "Incredible Font", that would be cool

Does anyone else have issues updating apps with this ROM? I can't uninstall QuickOffice and it won't let me uninstall facebook, WaveSecure, etc.

There doesn't seem to be any mention of this issue here. Anyone have any solutions? Thanks!

Oh, is there a way to view logs related to app install/uninstall so I can see what is going wrong?

you can remove them via adb commands when booted into recovery mode
