I was about to do the registry tweak to disable the Samsung Dialer on my i920, but read that it also disables MMS. Is there a work-around to this?

This is from the Omnia 2: Tweaks and flash guide:

Disabling the Samsung dialer (I didn't test this myself yet)

* Open any registry editor, go to HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin

change Enabled > 1 to 0

* Warning: This disable video call and MMS

* Can save 10MB Program Memory and also speed up searching through contacts & sent SMS.

* Can be done with SKtools too: TuneUp/Phone Edition/OEM Dialer skin

It is kind of old, almost a year, so I'm guessing it won't affect MMS anymore?

Actually, I'm having problems with the answering screen when you receive a call. Is that part of Samsung Dialer? I've got S2U2 and would like to use S2A. I've tried getting S2A to work without the Samsung Screen coming up, but to no avail

I looked at it and tried changing my mode to buffer, but it's worse, with a bunch of glitching when I receive a call. S2A does come up, but it glitches like mad and the Windows skin is literally underneath it. if I press on the screen, a button from the Windows Skin comes up

I think I'm just going to do the registry tweak

But I've read that disabling the Samsung Dialer makes the left phone button useless. Or am i wrong?

Just to make sure, doing the exact opposite for disabling the Samsung dialer would enable it, right?

Yes you are correct. I just tried disabling the samsung dialer then re-enabling it. I ended up going back to the original Samsung dialer, because as stated above it disables MMS and the left hardware send key.
