Guest Fusion0306 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 what is the benefits of swap? i am new with pulse..... i dowanload the file but i dont know how i install it this file,i have tre 2.1 with flb 1.5 on my phone thanks Swap - moves inactive apps in swap partition on sd card so that active programs have more memory. (I'm sure someone will have a more elaborate explanation  ) You have to flash zip through recovery. But make a nandroid backup before you do.
Guest Krinyo Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 what is the benefits of swap? Simply speaking: Your phone thinks/knows it's have more memory to be used. Swap on the memory card not at fast as internal memory, but swapping is much-much faster, than closing/reopening the apps. And there are background apps, which be closed when memory is low, it's causing the launcher kicked from memory, if You using a big app. Swap helping a lot.
Guest Ellia Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 What's a good size for the swap partition?
Guest TGWS Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 What's a good size for the swap partition? I would think, 32 or 64MB
Guest Simon O Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 32 would be best. Anything more is overkill and can actually make the phone slower.
Guest Nirva Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Did someone test Swap with an SD card of class 4 or worse ?
Guest Krinyo Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 32 would be best. Anything more is overkill and can actually make the phone slower. Why? I'm created a 128 MB partition, system is using what it's using...
Guest Krinyo Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Did someone test Swap with an SD card of class 4 or worse ? Yes. Class4. Goooooood.
Guest TGWS Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) Yes. Class4. Goooooood. If pulse had a class 8 Reader, it would be good for mee , 4GB Class 8 :) But it hasnt :( Edited September 14, 2010 by TGWS
Guest ambrozija Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 and what if I use swapper2? then no partition will be created, right? only swap file?! how would I know then that the phone is using swap (something empirical i.e. not relying on feel)?

Same method as listed before. the swapfile will be set up the same.
Guest konzul Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Download the official 2.1 update from either Tmobile Website, Or other's. I dont have it on my computer anymore or i would upload, Ask one of the nice people in here to upload for you if you cant find it online. (1) Mount USB to computer. (2)Place Dload folder in Root of SD Card (3)Turn off Phone. (4)Then go to Menu, Settings, Phone & Storage, Or Card. I cant remember what it's under in 1.5. (5)Upgrade or Somthing like that. (6) Let it run it's course. (7) Enjoy. _______________ Forgot, Dont copy and paste Dload folder as it mixes with the one already on your SD if you have one on there, wich im assuming you do, cause your update failed. Delete the one off the SD card first. Then place the new one you get into the root, By root i mean, not in no subfolders. Eg. My computer, Removable E: place it in there. ( Windows ) Ok, I do it everithing and stil not upgrade. "the upgrade packagr is not detected.Confirm the upgrade package and then perform the upgrade". This is the message from my Pulse when I try to upgrade.... Help?

Are you sure you have the update files, The correct ones?
Guest ambrozija Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) Same method as listed before. the swapfile will be set up the same. When I run a2sd check the I get Swap = partition not present Swap does not start i can see the swapfile.swp on the sd card, so it is there, but am i running swap here or not? Probably I am. I run free in TE and get swap: total:32760 used:236 free:32524 Edited September 14, 2010 by ambrozija

Guest tomdubs Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Did someone test Swap with an SD card of class 4 or worse ? using the original sd that came with the phone which im fairly sure is Class 2, you can tell its a bit slower, but definitely still preferable to everything being kicked from memory
Guest Krinyo Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Yes. I dowload http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/library/TMOB...urce%20code.zip Im not understand... It's the source code, not the updates.
Guest TGWS Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 It's the source code, not the updates. Silly error made, O'well. Given the link to 2.1 now
Guest gusthy Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 32 would be best. Anything more is overkill and can actually make the phone slower. Cannot confirm, my one runs since around half a day w much larger and didn't slow down. I guess this 32 mb thing is true for CompCache, but as I see, applications are swapped independently, therefore the overhead of swap is only that when you switch an app, it reads from card. I think an extensive test for different scenarios is required.

Guest Totyasrác Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Yes. Class4. Goooooood. +1 :)
Guest Totyasrác Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 When I run a2sd check the I get Swap = partition not present Swap does not start i can see the swapfile.swp on the sd card, so it is there, but am i running swap here or not? Probably I am. I run free in TE and get swap: total:32760 used:236 free:32524 That's correct - since you have no swap partition, and it is NOT a2sd handling your swap. Go to terminal emulator and use this command: free. You'll see if it is turned on and used (or not )
Guest Ellia Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 What about swap and AutoKiller? Are there any good settings for AutoKiller or should I disable it?
Guest Ellia Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Is any wipe required? I flashed the new kernel and every time "phone" get a forced closed and I can't use the Pulse.
