This Froyo 2.2 kernel dont work. Its stuck on Android logo.

A funny thing: I restored the wrong nandroid (with 2.2) and flashed the 2.1-swap kernel, it booted without problems!

For me it worked happily, maybe it is practical to do a wipe before moving from non-a2sd to a2sd

anyone can teach a n00b how to set swap nicelly?

Make a Nandroid backup and a backup of your SD! Then flash Flib's kernel with clockwork or amongra, format your SDcard with a swap partition (use amongra or gparted). And it works if you installed Darktremor's a2sd.

WiFi works

FLB 2.6.29 kernel test for A2SD users (and non-A2SD users)

Added: Swap, EXT3 support.

Compcache will come in the next update as soon as I figure it out

2.6.29-flb.zip for rom with A2SD installed

2.6.29-flb_noa2sd.zip for rom with no A2SD

The kernel will work with any custom 2.1 ROM based on the official T-Mobile UK ROM. This includes Community Custom ROM, FLB-MOD 1.5

The ZIP should be flashed through recovery. It is a replacement boot.img containing the new kernel and is rooted.

How to enable swap

If you have a swap partition on your SD card then Darktremor A2SD will automatically start swap on boot.

If you do not have a swap partition then you can either re-partition the SD card and add one (this will delete everything on the SD card) or use Swapper2 from the Android Market. It creates a swapfile on your SD card.

Please consider this kernel a test.

2.6.29-flb.zip (with a2sd) works just fine on my CHT8000.

For the record:

-Started with Tre updata with TWeak 0.3; fully wiped that.

-Repartitioned the SD card with GParted: shortened my 512mb ext2 by 32mb and added a 32mb swap partition. (And lost nothing on the fat32 partition; nice!)

-Boot recovery; flashed TWeak (FLB1.5); immediately flashed 2.6.29-flb.zip.

-Rebooted into new rom and did the basic startup stuff.

-Ran a2sd check to verify it thought my swap was there and on. It was. (But fibblesan, why does terminal not show anything in the checkboxes in FLB, but it does just fine in the Tre-based mod I made? It certainly has nothing to do with something I did!)

-Connected to wifi. Check.

-Called myself from my landline. Perfect.

Looking good so far! Thanks!

(Now I'm off to learn how to shove this kernel into the Tre rom. Any more pointers?)

If you mean how to turn it on? You don't have to. You only need the have a swap partition on your SD card before you boot and the update Fibble made earlier will do the rest.

If you mean how to partition your SD card to have a swap partition? Look back through the thread for how others did it. I would offer that information, but I do all my partitioning in GParted on my Linux computer. (I assume you have Windows, so I can't help you with that.)

Edit: Looks like rulerofkaos beat me to it.

Wifi works but in most of the times it's reboot the phone.

I need to try 2-3 times before wifi turns properly.

Anyone else is experiencing this issue?

How long are you waiting? When you say "freezing" how long is it? First boots take a significant amount of time. Let it go for at least five minutes.

However, since you are already in this deep, you could start completely over, and make sure you follow the steps of the first two tutorials here very carefully: The Ultimate Pulse Owners Guide

i. Installing the Official 2.1 Update

ii. Installing a 2.1 Custom Rom

NOTE: you will want apps2sd, so make sure you follow those additional steps in the second tutorial.

Then, after you get FLB 1.5 working, partition your SD card with something like a 512mb ext2 partition (for apps2sd) and a 32mb swap partition (for swap, of course). There are a number of ways to do that, as mentioned above. Then boot into recovery again, and flash fibble's update (with a2sd) from earlier in this thread. Reboot. Wait a long time. :(

If you do everything like the instructions say, it should work. If it doesn't, more than likely you did not do something exactly as it said. Every problem I have ever encountered in all of my fooling around with these roms has been my own mistake, usually just simply not being careful.

Good luck.

Edit: just to prove my point, I forgot to paste in the link.

Can anyone who was having the SMS bug confirm if using swap has solved the problem (so far)?

Thankyou for that, and i waited like 15 minutes, went and made a cupa, and it was just the same, It green android logo would go round, then freeze half way, then start again, then do the same.

I dont think i done it correctly, thats why i asked for abit of help :)

Thankyou

Just to clear up, Are there any big bugs in this one?

Can somebody explain a little more of the behavior of swap? I started a few things but the RAM went down to about 13mb. I have a 32mb swap partition. Does this mean I can use about 32mb+Pulse RAM as RAM? When is the kernel swapping? Only when the free RAM goes lower than x or all apps in the background are moved to swap?

Linux is not windows  It is really smart. Fills up all ram, and if thats over, starts to use swap. In the meanwhile only data what are really not necessary, but cannot put anywhere else (HDD) are written down to the swap partition. Usually this is only a few kb.

Are you claiming that windows doesn't use a swap file?

Can I ask how does swap play with out of memory killer? does the oom only kill when there is no memory at all(including swap) or when system runs out of RAM(but still has swap)?

The thing to remember is that swap is managed completely by the kernel, and there is no visibility (normally) to applications regarding swap. This is as it should be. In this way, apps can just keep allocating memory beyond available RAM, and the kernel manages paging between real RAM and swap. The system won't start throwing out-of-memory conditions until there is no swap space left either (he says, as if the linux kernel throws exceptions - it will start returning 0 from malloc/calloc/new into the Dalvik runtime, which itself will convert that to exceptions).

So, it's *likely* that OOM is watching for a system out-of-memory condition, which would be SWAP+RAM. I don't know the app though, so can't be definitive.

I got swap working correctly here, although I noticed the RAM has lowere alot. W/o SWAP I had about 50 Mb free (according to Estrongs Task Manager), and now, with 32 mb SWAP, I have only 30 Mb left. Although I notice things are going much more smoother, I was wondering if I can make the amount of SWAP Memory higher than 32 MB, I have an 8 GB SD-Card, and therefore I was wondering if I can make the amount of SWAP higher to, for example, 64 or 128 MB.

Regarding "any bugs in this one", this whole topic and thread is about something that is really experimental at this point. So, the likelihood of "bugs" is very high. And this is going to change over night, literally! So at this point you will probably end up much better off, with a much more "stable" system, if you just install FLB 1.5 (or some other "established" rom) and not try to install this experimental rom.

Just my opinion, but unless you are willing to spend a lot of time reflashing stuff, you might want to wait until Fibblesan or some other really smart guy releases a complete rom update with all the bells and whistles (and bugs worked out). So if you decide to wait, just follow those first two guides I mentioned above and enjoy a really nice user experience. This will all settle down in a week or so. :)

Thanks for taking time to writing the guide earlier, And trying to advise.

Ive installed in FLB 1.5, Im going to continue using this ROM untill the stable version of it comes out.

Thankyou.
