I got swap working correctly here, although I noticed the RAM has lowere alot. W/o SWAP I had about 50 Mb free (according to Estrongs Task Manager), and now, with 32 mb SWAP, I have only 30 Mb left. Although I notice things are going much more smoother, I was wondering if I can make the amount of SWAP Memory higher than 32 MB, I have an 8 GB SD-Card, and therefore I was wondering if I can make the amount of SWAP higher to, for example, 64 or 128 MB.

Do You have Dalvik cache on SD? I notice absolutely the opposite, i have much more free memory than before. Before i had 24-26 MB, now i have 35, sometime 40 mb of free memory.

I got a 2GB with mine (T-Mobile in the Netherlands). I *think* it's class 4

Test it. If You reach 4 MB/s read/write, it's Class4.

I get that normally without running Swap, but i bet i dont run as many apps in the background as you

WHat are people testing the speed of their cards with, I have a 2gb Sandisk (not the one with my pulse) and crystal disk says 10 read and 5 MB/s write but this seems pretty high for a cheap 2gb. What software are you using?

Three important points:

1, dalvik cache has nothing to do with free RAM, it is a coincidence that both can be managed by a2sd.

2, The free memory information of process killers/task managers is totally when using swap, so you cannot rely on that. For example, now I am running around 10 applications and ATK says I have 20 MB. I start Maps, which is big, and it decreases by 1-2 MBs, which is not realistic.

3, for me it seems that opposed to the expectations, bigger swap does not slow down the system, rather speeds up. I made some long-run (3 hour) tests and this was the result. Now I use 128MB, and it is very performable. (It seems that Froyo swaps app by app, and it does that systmatically, so the greatest slowdown is when it has to retrieve a whole app from swap, which is always faster than starting it from apk.

Are you claiming that windows doesn't use a swap file?

Nope, i'm just saying that windows uses swap from the beginning, although my perpective is that to use all of the mem is preferable. It is under power, and its faster, so it makes no sence not to use it. The HDD is used a lot anyway and it slows things down. Memory is RA, HDD is not. At least the ordinary ones.

Could somebody start a new thread, so we (I ) could easily track the development?

Ask Tom G. He does most of the development. Flib does too but he won't open a thread.

Don't get it. Then what is the point to move the dalvik cache to SD? It is make more free memory to installed apps/data and the system, or not?

Thankyou for that, and i waited like 15 minutes, went and made a cupa, and it was just the same, It green android logo would go round, then freeze half way, then start again, then do the same.

I got the same result flashing the a2sd version of this kernel from FLB 1.4. I repeated with the non-a2sd version and got the same again - an apparently infinite boot animation.

I then wiped all the settings in the wipe menu of amonra, and re-applied the zip, and it appears to have booted okay. I'm just testing what it does.

If anyone is having trouble with this not booting, make sure you wipe everything (in the recovery menu) before installing. Repartitioning isn't enough.

I'm getting many reboots with swap, always when I switch wifi on or off or change something in the wifi settings.

Yeah, it also gets stuck a lot when trying to turn it off

I think I overdid the swap partition @ 128mb.. It is slightly sluggish at times. I think 64mb would be ideal

What does swappiness do?

Also I dont think I can get swapper to work properly, it keeps saying things fail. Any Ideas?

I'm using Dartktremor's for swap, so maybe this causes the wifi problem? My swap size is 32 Mb, but I'm on 2.1 eclair.

Appearently there's an issue with a2sd swap... With swapper it is smooth, with a2sd's built in swap it is crappy :-o

I don't know about swappiness, but if you set your options, then press menu and Swap-> then create. Then press on.
