Paul doesn't care about the Pulse any more.

I wasnt on the forums when this paul guy was here i dont think, What was he doing?, Was he good at it aswell?

Compcache definitely slows the phone down (think about it.. the already slow CPU has to compress ram every time it's written). Swap is much better for us. Infact most G1 users disable compcache.

I don't really know much about the ins & outs of compcache and swap, but compcache definitely didn't have a negative effect on Paul's 1.5 roms?

Princess of Samdroid?

I feel all awesome.

*cough* I'm on the UPOT (Unofficial Pulse Off-Topic) *cough*

If that's as easy as enabling swap then I will

One thing I noticed: WLAN crashes =/

I bet that is caused by an incompatibility between the kernel and the wifi modules. That usually causes a crash for me in the past when I've used the wifi modules from the HU rom and the Tre kernel, for example.

Maybe but he ignores any question about the Pulse that you ask him.

I gave it another shot though (a PM is on its way to him...) we'll see...

We have the source, a working alpha Froyo - should excite him I guess...

I mean THIS is a challenge - to make the Pulse work (not the 100th Desire/N1 ROM :))

C'mon man, what's wrong with you?!

Obviously you are:

GOOD in:

- opening topics,

- asking the same thing over and over in various threads

- annoying me.

BAD in:

- reading

- reading

- READING back and finding the answers for your questions.

I think the best way to contact Paul is through twitter, which I don't use ha

Ok I'm going to throw myself right in at the deep end and build the kernel.. god help me lol

If it works then I guess it'll just be a case of turning things on until it breaks

Good luck Flib! I take it that it's .29 and stock? (No custom mods or T-Mobile mods (if any))

Good luck, no harm in trying anyway! I was thinking of trying but my google skills failed me in terms of finding documentation/tutorials on doing it and adding things in

Well the first kernel it made is too big... 2.58MB when partnered with the ramdisk. Need to keep this 2.5MB or below as that's all we have to play with on the boot partition.

That's exactly the reasoning I came up with when I read that "compcache is better" earlier in the thread. At least someone thinks the same way I do

Ok it seems that adding EXT3 and EXT4 support to the kernel makes it too big. So now I'm just testing a kernel with swap support only. Boots first time

Dunno if it is better, yes, zipping is a performance gap, reading SD card is also a performance gap. The question is if zipping is faster than 2MB/sec and unzipping is faster than 6MB/sec, given a class 6 card.

And I can just repeat: MCR 1.7 is really fast with compcache.

You mean in an ideal case you can read/write the class6 card with 2/6 MBps, right? Most of the time you just can't, at least that's what I've experienced with my class4 SD (not reaching the expected speeds most of the time).

Anyways, speed of zipping vs speed of SD write/read, that is the question
