Why is there such an active community for the T Mobile Pulse?

I bought my CHT8000 (same thing) mostly for it's "potential". Of course I had promised myself a phone with at least a 3.5" screen, and this was the first one at a reasonable price. That was important too.

But the "potential" was two-fold. I had found this forum before I bought an Android phone. I read a bundle, and particularly because the site owner had really good things to say about it, and was modding for it (partly because of his wife, IIRC), I figured it would keep getting some level of support no matter what CHT did. But also, the reps at CHT let me talk directly to a Huawei rep who informed me that there would be a 2.x OS update by the end of March or beginning of April. Well, we all know where that promise went. :)

Anyway, I agree that it's a nice, open place where someone who started out not knowing the difference between booting into recovery and flashing recovery can learn how to modify roms (well, the simple stuff anyway). :lol:

And as others have mentioned, the stock experience leaves much to be desired.

Yeah, it's just a fun place to hang out.

I rang T-Mobile and said "I'd quite like an Android phone - what can you do?" and they offered me a Pulse for a tenner a month. And then dropped that to £7.50 when I hummed and ha'd. The Pulse was £150 on PAYG at the time, so the contract would actually work out cheaper taking interest into account - for which I get 3GB data a month and unlimited landline calls.

What brought me here? Well, idly checking to see whether there was a ROM update, mainly, and to see if I could do something about the bloody headphones playing silly buggers. I was hoping for 1.6 - imagine my surprise when I discovered that T-Mobile had released 2.1 in Hungary. And then my dismay when I saw how well it actually - worked? no... ran? hardly... performed. But then my delight on discovering first PulseLite (what happened to that, by the way?) and then FLB-Mod - which I tried just to see what it was like before reflashing 1.5, and... well, my phone is still running 2.1 :lol:
