Guest androiduser1
Hey guys. I've been out of the loop lately and came across this and it simply made my day. I've been using the Nexus One for quite some time and always wanted to root it but I was hesitant because it required to unlock the bootloader, meaning my warranty with Google/HTC would have been voided. But this method really works and I am now rooted without an unlocked bootloader. And this is by far the easiest way to root your Android device. No ADB procedures, no GoldCards to be made, etc. This is truly legit and I thought I'd share it with anyone that was hesitant on rooting their Nexus One devices because of warranty issues. I composed a detailed, step by step method for you to successfully root your phone. Downloads Required 1. Download Universal AndRoot Version 1.6.2 by clicking/copying/pasting the link below. 2. Once the file download is complete, copy the file to the SD card. 3. Go to the Market and download Astro Manager and ROM Manager. 4. Download the ROM that you wish to flash and copy it to the SD card. Root Procedure 1. Go to Settings, Applications and make sure Unknown Sources is checked. 2. Using Astro Manager, locate the Universal AndRoot file on the SD card. 3. Select the file and select Open App Manager. 4. You should now be prompted to Install the application. 5. When the install completes, go to applications and you will see Universal AndRoot. 6. Select the application and you can select Go Root or Undo Root. 7. Select Root and within a few seconds, you will be rooted. 8. Go back to applications and you should see Superuser Permissions. 9. Using the Power button, turn off your phone and power it back on. 10. Take this moment to notice that your phone is rooted without unlocking the Bootloader and that there is no "lockpad" icon. Flash Recovery Image/ROM 1. Select and open ROM Manager. 2. Select Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, confirm Google Nexus One (GSM) and allow Superuser Request. 3. Once complete, select Backup Current ROM. 4. As a suggestion, I performed a factory reset and then backed up my stock ROM. 5. Also, I named my backup stock ROM so I can easily identify it in case I ever want to restore back to stock. 6. Allow Superuser Permissions to start. 7. The phone will now reboot and go directly into recovery mode. 8. Perform a backup of your current ROM. 9. You MUST select Wipe Data/Factory Reset. 10. Use the Power button to go back to the previous screen, select Advanced and Wipe Dalvik Cache. 11. Use the Power button once more to go back to the previous screen. 12. Select Install Zip From SDcard and select the ROM you want to flash. 13. When running your custom ROM for the first time, be patient as it may take several minutes to boot to the home screen. 14. Once the ROM installs, you're done. You are now rooted with Superuser Permissions, ROM Manager, Titanium Backup and a custom ROM. Restoring Stock ROM/Unroot Procedure 1. Go to applications and open ROM Manager. 2. Scroll down to Manage and Restore Backups. 3. Select the backup of the stock ROM you created before flashing and select Restore. 4. The restore process will now begin and will take a few minutes. 5. Once the device reverts back to stock, go back to applications and select Universal AndRoot. 6. Select Undo Root. 7. Go to Settings, Privacy and select Factory Reset. 7. You're done. You are now completely back to stock and you have maintained your Bootloader for warranty purposes. I have personally completed this myself and you will too if you follow everything step by step. Also, I do not take credit for whoever came up with this procedure. But to whoever it was, I praise you. EDIT: If there are ROMs that require using Amon Ra's recovery image, then you will have to flash that recovery image. This method is for an easy way to flash using ClockworkMod recovery image. Edited October 1, 2010 by androiduser1
