Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 How can a man of your talents be out of work?! Preposterous. I think I'll be swapping my Pulse for this if smartsim unlocker works so I can use it on o2. I don't support you can test that Paul? I don't have a SmartSIM, sorry... P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 I've been thinking about upgrading from the Pulse for a while and I was thinking about the HTC Hero PAYG from 3 for £150. Is it worthwhile paying extra £50 for the Hero in comparison to the Blade or the WVGA AMOLED screen make the Blade a better experience? The Hero should have some life left as it supported by CyanogenMod but this early kernel source release makes Blade's future look rather promising. The Hero is a great device, specs wise the SF is superior, particularly as you say that screen... P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Yeah, so the system.img file doesn't unyaffs for this either. Trying a standard loopback mount. P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Managed to 'adb shell / reboot recovery' into a conventional recovery image, now looking for the keyboard combination. P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Powering on with 'volume down' gives 'FTM' mode... P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Powering on with 'volume up' appears to be fastboot...! P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 No kernel commandline as default, base address for boot image is 0x3000000. P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Rebuilt an insecure boot image and flashed it via fastboot (brave / stupid, you decide!) It flashed OK... note that 'fastboot boot' returns 'OK' but doesn't actually boot. The result of flashing the rebuilt boot image? Device won't boot any more. :) P
Guest Simon O Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Rebuilt an insecure boot image and flashed it via fastboot (brave / stupid, you decide!) Guest Simon O Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Apparently so! P Ok I think this might be the same issue that affected the pulse mini. I know from the ZTE Racer that the boot image was a bit different to unpack than the pulse image and when repacking the image had to have some bytes changed. http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-alpha-release/ See if that helps?
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 I'm pretty sure that's not the problem... if I unpack and rebuild the recovery image, it boots as intended. It's just the normal boot image it doesn't like, it's weird! P
Guest The Soup Thief Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 This is gripping stuff! I've been waiting for this to be released since reading about Project JAL back in July - really excited to find a hands on report of it. Rooting your new phone with it fresh out of the box? Hats off to ya!
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 OK, right, so I have a working custom bootimage with security off. Nifty! P
Guest Simon O Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 IT'S ALIVE! P Cool. What was the problem?
Guest Frankish Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Sorry to be dumb but does that mean full r/w access to system?
Guest Trugglepunts Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 im sure one of those small plastic things that sit in between the phone and sim card (smartsim?) would work with this
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 And here it is... http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/boot.blade.insecure.img Use at your own risk obviously (not very wise at this point unless you REALLY know what you're doing), I flashed via 'fastboot flash boot boot.insecure.img' no problems. P
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Sorry to be dumb but does that mean full r/w access to system? Yes. P
Guest Frankish Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 I can't believe how fast this is moving. I reckon by the time my brother buys one of these (probably weekend!) Koush may already have Clockwork on it. I bet Paul will have a stock rom going on it too. Who knows what's next? Froyo? lol
Guest Paul Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Yep, i'm pretty confident saying I can rebuild images. Just need @koush to fix a few things and I reckon we're pretty set for fun! P
Guest _melchett Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 IT'S ALIVE! P Just me or did anyone immediately think of : or Now my pulse's screen is broken this could be a worthy replacement..... i think it'll have to be nicknamed Gordon!
