Guest ddotpatel Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 Slightly off topic kind of,.... Can anyone create a module to run at boot with the overclock frequencies added?.... I mean, just as a temp measure until ZTE pull their fingers out?... Or is source required for modules too? I cant wait to get my hands on one of these puppies!!!!!
Guest jimmy2x2x Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Would this be appropriate? To [email protected] Hello, I hope this is the correct email address for this situation. A Chinese company 'ZTE' manufacture an android smartphone, internal model name 'Blade' This is sold in the UK by mobile phone operator 'Orange' with the model name 'San Francisco' As far as I know the Kernel source code for this device should be made available under the Gnu licence as it based on the stock Android (2.1 Eclair) source code. A number of users have approached both Orange and ZTE regarding this issue over the last 6 weeks and the source code is still not available. If its appropriate, could you please investigate this further. ZTE point of contact: [email protected] http://support.zte.com.cn/support/web/Contact.aspx ZTE page where the source code is likely to appear (complete with apology for it not being there): http://support.zte.com.cn/support/news/NewsDetail.aspx?newsId=1000322&strName=ZTE-BLADE%20open%20source%20code%20for%20Andr%E2%80%A6 Orange point of contact: http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/contacting-us/payg-email http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/contacting-us/payg Thread documenting some of the efforts to get the source code: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/318412/23-sep-kernel-source/ Regards, Edited October 31, 2010 by jimmy2x2x
Guest bagge Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I actually emailed ZTE regarding this some time mid last week, I wasnt expecting much of an answer, and not very fast. But they replied within a few hours asking some details about the device (got a bit confusing as I kept involving the version aimed at the asian market, v880, which supposedly runs 2.2). Their second reply after that however seems to have been a standard we'll forward your query to the correct department aka you're not very likely to hear from us again. I'll be replying back to the email tomorrow again asking when I can expect further information on the matter, and gently point out that they're actually required to publish the source code.

Just to confirm, I got the same stock response from them, nothing actually addressing the issue. got a very fast response [email protected] > Hello, I hope this is the correct email address for this situation. Guest blauwal26 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 The disclaimer is a .doc, the source itself packed in .rars. Man, those guys certainly are open source gurus. Anyways, thanks pring, who mysteriously just registered to post this =)

Guest rjm2k Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Is this confirmed yet, again they have released source for multiple phones but it all points to the same set of rars, at least they are in a blade directory.
Guest robot1000 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Just in time for the release of 'Gingerbread' :)
Guest southeastblue Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 This is good news! Let's hope all that's needed is contained within the link above to get a nice bug free 2.2 working. :)

Guest robot1000 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 I would suggest only 1 person downloads it (so the servers don't get any slower) and then upload it to to Rapidshare/Megaupload
Guest Freekers Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 (edited) well done lads, i expect an all singing all dancing 2.2 when i get home :-p lol This is the source code for Android 2.1 (Eclair) not 2.2 Froyo.. or am I mistaken ? Thanks to everyone who contacted orange/zte/gpl-violations. Well done! Congratulations from me too ! Proper good job. can't tell yet, dl is super slow (about 1k/sec per connection), anyway, here are the links to the files: I would suggest only 1 person downloads it (so the servers don't get any slower) and then upload it to to Rapidshare/Megaupload I am currently downloading with 5-15 KB/s and the total filesize is about 76 MB (9.5 MB per rar part), so this is gonna take a while... Will upload once finished to Rapidshare, Megaupload and other filesharing services. Edited November 1, 2010 by Freekers
