Guest Marand Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 Have you tried installing 'voice search'? Yep installed that and the voice button works when you so a search. I un installed the voice search and reinstalled it but the mic button on the keyboard does nothing. Maybe it just does not work with this hardware. Thanks for the suggestion.
Guest randal24 Posted October 4, 2010 Report Posted October 4, 2010 (edited) This is what I've been looking for, such a joy to use! Thanks Jonasl, Paul and everyone else involved. edit - this so deserves to be a sticky. Edited October 4, 2010 by randal24
Guest dwl99 Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Have you tried installing 'voice search'? The voice search button on mine is greyed out too. Is there a fix?
Guest dwvl Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Just realised the voice text input isn't working though, when i press the button nothing happens. Can someone check theirs to make sure it isn't just me? Mine exhibited exactly the same problem as yours. I searched around and found a post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...;postcount=2119 that provided the solution. It's also at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...;postcount=2178 Installing "VoiceSearchWithKeyboard.apk" from the above threads solved the problem for me. This appears to be version 150 of the Voice Search application, compared with version 146 which is installed in v3 of Paul's ROM. Because I'm not yet Android-literate, I don't know how to uninstall version 146, so I have two Voice Search applications on my phone. I've obviously made v150 the default one. Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the Rom-based v146? @Paul, can you put v150 into v4 of your custom ROM please? For reasons I don't understand, it is much larger than v146. But at least it works!

Thanks for the info. If your phone is rooted you can use a free app called Super Manager. Use its file explorer to navigate to system/app, scroll down to the apk file named Voice Search (or whatever it is), tick the box beside it then tap on the recycle bin icon. I also used this method to delete the stock Android mail app, Adobe Reader and a few other things.

That worked for me. I had to "enable root" (or similar; I can't quite remember) in Super Manager, and also mount the system as RW to delete the app. No doubt obvious stuff for those who are familiar with Android!
Guest finnboy Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Wow, that keyboard is about 10 times better than either of the standard ones on the SF!! So much easier to use! Been having real problems with the standard keyboards, but this one is great! Many thanks! :)
Guest Bradmax57 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Excellent just what ive been looking for :)
Guest m_w_clarke Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Is it just me, or is the download link broken? I get redirected to the Modaco homepage when I click it... Fine with me - Ive just tried it. This is on Win XP with Firefox.
Guest balb0wa Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 great keyboard, thanks, so much better at adding words and remembering them !

I've rooted and installed the custom rom. Then i installed super manager and ticked on root in settings, but when i go to file explorer and give it superuser permission i just get a blank screen. if i dont tick root i get all the files listed but when i tick root nothing. HELP :) Edited October 13, 2010 by kidkhaos
Guest dwvl Posted October 14, 2010 Report Posted October 14, 2010 how do you mount with r/w In the File Manager part of Super Manager, when I navigated to the /system folder, Super Manager automatically asked me whether to "Switch System R/W". I clicked on "R/W" and then proceeded to delete the Voice.apk file. After that, I pushed the MENU had button and selected "Switch System R/W" to make it read-only again. I then went to /data/data (which is R/W anyway) and deleted the com.google.android.voicesearch.x folder. That was it. Job done. when i go to file explorer and give it superuser permission i just get a blank screen. Are you sure you still have root? I lost root, for reasons I don't understand, after changing from the Paul's MCR to Sebastian404's rom. If you install Terminal Emulator from the market, then type 'su' (no quotes) and the prompt changes from $ to # then you do have root permissions. If not, you haven't.

You need to follow Paul's instructions in post #1 of this thread. You need to unzip the .zip, to get the two .apk files. Then click the .apk files using the "Filer" app to install them. Then follow Paul's "settings" instructions.

Much better than the original keyboard :)
Guest JackSF Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 Hmmm, I cannot seem to get this keyboard working. I have upograded the voice app to 1.50 Installed the 2 apk files in the attachment. Enabled the HTC keyboard in settings. I can select the keyboard within the text application BUT the keyboard does not display. Any ideas?

Guest feckineejit Posted October 16, 2010 Report Posted October 16, 2010 When i hold on the smiley icon it opens a box with a few icons, but as soon as i lift my finger, the box with the icons disappear, the only way i can click on them is to slide my finger over to the smiley and click it before its disappears. Is this the same with everyone else? and is there a way to keep it on the screen till i want to remove it. Hope you all understand what i'm alking about :)
